Wolfe’s Auto Service

While traveling on a road trip from Philadelphia to Detroit for a wedding, we had a flat tire. We changed it on the side of the Turnpike, and drove on our «donut» to find a place to patch it up. Enter Wolfe’s Auto Service. The gentleman there checked the flat tire, and informed us that it had been shredded and could not be patched. We would need a new tire. Also, we drive an old Volvo, so the size tire we need is a bit rare. As luck would have it, the gentleman said he could order the tire and have it there in an hour. This is not exactly «good» news on a 10 hour road trip which you are only 2 hours into. The price of the new tire? $ 125. Holy smokes! I called around, but everything was closed, didn’t have that size tire either, or was too far away to drive on a donut. So, we were stuck. The guy said that’s what it costs for quality, and that he could maybe sell us something cheaper, but he likes to treat all his customers as if he might see them again, and not pass off something cheap and fast. Oh well, sounds good. One hour and we were on our way. Great! Back in Philly, we started looking for a new second tire to match the one we had bought. Apparently, it should not only be the same size, but also the same brand. That’s how I realized that Mr. Wolfe Auto Service dude’s «quality» tire cost $ 50-​$ 60 everywhere else. What a sinking feeling to know you’ve been had. It is, however, a small consolation to know that we can warn others.
