I work close to this place. Walk by and saw some beautiful frames at the storefront. Finally decided to walk in to see if they have the swissflex brand that I was wearing because it fits my Asian nose well:). Greeted by Karen. She is Asian and I thought she would understand something like Asian Fit eyeglass. To make a long story short it started very well but ends up very disappointed.
1). The eye exam was not done properly. It take her less than 10 minutes to examines my eyes. Did not let me test fit my prescription for progressive. Have not have glasses done for about 10 years so I have forgotten about the test fit.
2). I asked them if they think the frame will stay and not slid down when I perspires since I have an Asian nose. They said it fits well. The frame is Masanuga and they said with progressive prescription will total around $ 1100. I thought that was a reasonable price and accepted.
3). Here comes the horror. I can’t read well at all. Went back twice and they convince me that I need to get use to the progressive. I told them I’m use to progressive lenses because I have a pair. Went back the third time and they reexamine my prescription and found that its wrong. They make the adjustment and change the lenses.
4). The fit is never resolved. My eyeglasses keep sliding down. Very dissapointed. Lost a lot of time going back and forth and waiting for new lenses.
Bottom line is if you are Asian avoid this place. What a loss because I would have gone back for more and introduce my friends too because I do love their frames. If anyone by chance knows where I can fix my Masanuga frames with wire/​silicone notepad please let me know.

I bought masunaga frames in Hawaii and needed to get them adjusted. But I didn’t want to take them to just any place, and found this store via the masunaga website. They have a pretty amazing selection of very cool glasses — ALL of which can all converted Asian fit if you like. I’m definitely coming back to order a 2^nd pair of glasses! Very, very soon.

Very impressed. Was looking for a new optometrist since I needed to get a new prescription for contacts/​glasses and just received new health insurance. Did a search for them within my network and picked them because they were so close to my office. SO easy to schedule an appointment. I had emailed them through their site and the response was immediate. They asked about the type of insurance, DOB, and availability. Went in for an appointment and was greeted by friendly staff. Filled out some paperwork and then went in to meet with Dr. Melissa Sherman. She is great! Very friendly, informative and thorough. She was also very patient with questions I had. I had to be fitted for new contacts because the ones I had were an older brand that barely allowed any oxygen to flow into the eye. She did a very thorough exam and fitted me for new contacts. I left with a trial pair and she told me to come back immediately if I felt any discomfort so that I can be fitted for another pair. No need though. Contacts were much better than my previous brand. I followed up that same night via email about purchasing and getting a copy of my prescription and the next day they emailed all the details + receipt.
Overall, a very great experience. Definitely will be coming here for annual check ups.

A++. James was helpful and patient and easily identified the perfect frame in minutes. All I had to do was pick my favorite color. I am finally wearing a pair of glasses I own and loving it. I can’t recommend this place highly enough.

Moving from California to New York and needing to get all the new services in place eg doctor, dentist, eye, hair, esthetician, etc is one of the time consuming things about moving across the country. So happening across the team at Visionary Optics was unbelievably amazing. I did a Unilocal search near my house in West Village /​Chelsea. After checking out their Unilocal Reviews I called and was able to make an appointment that week. I saw Dr Sherman who was lovely, professional and efficient. I was lucky to also be taken care of by Lydia in the store who spent some time going through their range of frames with me. She was patient, knew the stock well, and not pushy on price or product. And the frames were ready that day! Amazing. I definitely recommend the Visionary Optics team. Thank you for making my first healthcare services experience in NYC so easy (let’s hope the rest is the same!).

Went because of an eye infection and the whole staff was very nice.
Dr Sherman, who saw me, was especially friendly and professional. I’ve seen a few eye doctors in NY and no one came close to being as helpful and nice as her!

** WONDERFUL, PROFESSIONAL, and KNOWLEDGABLE**
Even though they are in the business of selling glasses, they do not make you feel like they are a greedy pack of hyenas just trying to sell you frames. They want to make sure you have a pleasant shopping experience and find what frames fit your needs first. (Not like other places that will tell you anything to get you to buy the most expensive frames). The staff is passionate about what they do and it shows!
Although they did not accept my optical insurance, the staff there (especially Karen Wu) were extremely helpful, knowledgable and professional. She helped me find a few frames that I really liked. (Which is hard for me to find) While she helping me another customer came in to get his glasses readjusted without an appointment and they helped him right away, were able to identify what was «wrong» with his frames immediately just by looking at them on his face. (It wasn’t obvious to me, which showed me they know what they are doing)
They seem to know their customers personally and take pleasure in the work that they do. Unfortunately, I could not get my frames from them but I would recommend this place to anyone in the NYC area who wants new glasses. They have a wonderful selection of unique, high quality frames and lenses and the store is beautiful, sleek and modern. They are wonderful!

Very helpful, clean, modern store. They have gone out of their way to help me get the right prescription sunglasses for my high altitude treks.
Came back and picked up a pair of Mykita’s as my regular glasses and they are fantastic as well.
Not pushy, not ‘ultra fancy/​bougie feel’, just a lot of really good manufacturers with modern styles.
The doctor was also very efficient, respectful, and it was clear he knew what he was doing.

Great service, and they accept VSP. Might be one of the few places where I liked the receptionists more than the doctor (but she was nice too!).

I really like this business. Great customer service and great doctors (I saw two, both were fabulous — one even showed me baby pictures!). Glasses are a bit spendy — but a really great selection! Found a really unique pair I loved — professional but interesting.
When I decided to put off buying those new glasses for a few months, there were no problems getting my prescription emailed to me.
I have been going to eye doctors since I was 6 years old… and these are some of my favorites!

I was really impressed with my visit here today. I saw Panos Karageorgiou and am literally reviewing as soon as I got home so I won’t forget — that is how happy I am. I have GPC, dry eye and a fairly high prescription. I’ve been seeing another eye dr continually for these issues, but came to Visionary Optics to use my yearly free check up with my VSP insurance.
Dr Karageorgiou was very patient and listened to my long list of concerns and addressed every single one. He talked through all of the issues with me and asked questions that the many other doctors I’ve been seeing have never asked. Yes, all of the eye drs I have seen were helpful and knowledgeable, but I really felt like he took his time to cover all of my issues. I felt he was actually thinking about my issues as opposed to giving me generic answers/​solutions. He was very personable, kind and made me feel comfortable.
The rest of the staff was very personable too. I work at a health clinic and am always highly critical of how I am treated at other facilities/​center/​stores, etc… they surely passed my test! I was greeted very warmly and on my way out they talked to me about the different types of lenses and costs. They were all knowledgeable and seemed to genuinely enjoy their job. Also, getting an initial appointment was very easy.
Five stars for this place, in the future if I need to see an eye dr again I will definitely come here instead of my previous place. Highly recommended!

Best place ever! I mean that really. I was just looking for a place that took my insurance (VSP) that was near my office and that offered ZEISS Lenses. (Zeiss has a machine that looks at the shape of your eye and makes a lens just for you, and they have it here)
I originally went in because I was having an eye problem. Working, staring at computer monitors for 16 hours a day wreaks havoc. I had severe dry eyes. I saw Dr. Panos Karageorgiou. Best eye doctor I’ve ever been to. Extremely professional and knowledgeable… and very personable. And I’ve been to some good ones.
I have a rare condition where some of my eye lashes grow into my eye (genetic) and he also really helped me with that. Which is above and beyond. Most eye doctors charge an arm and a leg for this and don’t include it with normal treatment.
I saw him a total of three times over a month to check that my eyes were back to normal after having been on prescription drops. The last time was to get a proper eye exam.
Sadly though I didn’t have time to pick out new frames here before I had to move to Los Angeles for work. They have some very nice frames. A lot of high tech, beautifully crafted ones that I had never heard of. And the sales associates were extremely knowledgeable. And nice.

What a wonderful place! The staff is so nice. They have beautiful glasses. Store is beautiful. Worth every second to go there!

I was looking for a cool optical eye wear and optical sunglasses.
Their selection of glasses is very stylish and they found me a pair of glasses that matched my needs VERY fast.
The quality of lenses they provide is the best I had an experience with!
I totally recommend this place but be aware that they might be a bit pricey. With that said, the selection, quality and customer service it is worth the extra $.

I found Visionary Optics through my insurance (Aetna), and based on the strong positive Unilocal reviews, decided to give it a chance. It was easy to get an appointment, the employees were attentive and down-​to-​Earth, and the optometrist was thorough with the exam, personable, and knowledgeable.
I was particularly impressed with VO because, unlike some other stores that sell eyewear, they were not pushy with their merchandise in any way. In fact, I was ready to purchase a full-​year supply of contacts but was stopped by the doctor. He had just given me a new pair to try, and since «it takes 20 minutes for them to settle on your eyes», he wanted me to wait a couple of days before buying to be sure they stayed comfortable. He also encouraged me to check 1−800-CONTACTS (from where I usually buy my stash) to be sure that their prices are comperable. How often do you hear of that happening?!
I have to go back soon to get the dialation portion of the exam (I didn’t have sun glasses at the time to protect my eyes post-​examination), and to get my hardware. I’m definitely thinking VO will become my regular servicer!

I highly recommend this place to anyone who needs a new pair of eyeglasses! Not only do these guys have an amazing selection of frames that is in constant turnover, but the customer service is probably the best I’ve ever experienced in an eyeglasses store. Every single person that works at this location is warm, professional, incredibly knowledgeable and will give you their honest opinion on how the frames look on you, as well as on their quality. I was truly impressed with the care and time they took to make sure that I walked away with a pair of specs that I love to wear everyday. AND they take VSP insurance — a rarity in most eyeglass boutiques in the city!

Upon realizing that I left home without sunglasses (on a VERY sunny day), I ventured into Visionary Optics to make my first purchase. I had flirted with the idea before.
There are some fabulous shades within this den of the eye-​sight-​challenged. ²⁰⁄₂₀ vision will not keep you from a kick-​ass pair of sunglasses. Small designers and more well-​known designers are evenly represented.
Don’t expect to leave with a cheap pair, but the customer service is worth the price tag. Even better to buy sunglasses here if you need prescription lenses! They were shocked that someone ventured in without the need.
