The House of Blue Leaves

OH MY GAWD! This play just screamed awful!
My friends were in town, and the one and only non-​food request was to see The House of Blue Leaves. With big names like Ben Stiller, Edie Falco and Jennifer Jason Leigh, you’d think that it’d be a slam dunk. Sadly, that was not the case. It was one of those performances where I was screaming internally, «OMG THIS SUCKS!!!» and was afraid I may actually stand up and burst those exact words out.
My brother and sister in law never come out with us. They actually did that night and I felt really bad. Halfway through the performance, I looked over and my sister in law had fallen asleep on my brother’s shoulder. My brother had that glazed over stare that just screamed, «Is this over yet???»
I am a huge fan of Ben Stiller’s movies, but this live performance was such a huge disappointment. If not for the big names, this play would have been shut down after a week. I not only want my money back, but I want those two hours of my life back.

A quirky and funny play. This play had the powerful performances of Ben Stiller, Edie Falco, and Jennifer Jason Leigh. I found the broadway play to be a great story and hysterically funny at times. Edie Falco steals the show with her character «Bananas who really brings out the depth of her talent, as we are always used to seeing her as a person who has it all together in her strong as nails roles, she usually portrays. Ben Stiller is great with his show tunes and side comments. He really draws you into this character of Artie.
Jennifer J Leigh is also awesome with her looney character of Bunny, who is all over the place and really brings the punch lines.
I am glad to have seen this performance with these powerful actors, it really is an experience of what broadway shows should be. I also loved that the theater was intimate and the set was such that it gave the actors and the audience a feel that we were all in this together.
