Tamandua Expeditions

The Tamandua Expeditions is fantastic! It’s a superb way to witness the Amazon jungle in its natural splendor. We weren’t lucky enough (or were lucky enough!) to find uncontacted tribes, but we did get to visit small villages at the riverbanks and experience how the locals live. We also went deep into the jungle where it is practically untouched by mankind. We saw all sorts of native wild animals in their natural habitat: macaws, hoatzins, snakes, frogs, an anteater, five or six different species of monkeys, and we even caught the caiman alligator barehanded (I’m hoping next time I go to get a glimpse of a jaguar too!).
On top of these amazing jungle experiences the best part of the Tamandua Expeditions is that you get to support true «eco-​tourism». By purchasing this expedition one can feel proud of their support of the scientists, biologists, and photographers/​videographers who work toward the preservation of the Amazon Jungle. Nothing compares to the adventure, or comfort of the amazon. Towering trees, endless forest, you find yourself immersed in a society you don’t quite understand, but you can’t stop staring at. The station at Las Piedras however it just like being in a comfortable apartment in the city. You can choose to explore and appreciate the city from the safe distance in the apartment, or you can choose to get out and explore — the choice is yours.
What’s amazing is that even if you just sit and read your book in a hammock surrounded by the luscious forest, you still get the feeling you are on adventure beyond anything else. Maybe it’s the two day boat road up the river to get to the station. Maybe it’s the fact that when you look at the station on Google Maps and zoom out you’re surrounded by forest.
In the end, you will leave feeling fulfilled. Your body will feel like it has been used for a better purpose and you will feel naturally stronger. Exercise is not natural. But being active on a Tamandua Expeditions trip is the most natural thing in the world. Your mind will feel satisfied in the exploration of the jungle and seeing plants and animals most people will never see in real life.

Tamandua Expeditions gave me the adventure of my life. Paul Rosalie is extremely professional, accommodating, and a complete daredevil. He makes you feel like the king of the jungle; ready to overcome any challenge you face while there. The highlights of my trip included meeting indigenous people, capturing (and releasing) Amazonian wildlife, surveying the extensive trails, eating delicious Peruvian food, partaking in a 3-​day expedition into the heart of the Amazon, and relaxing back at the research station. Not to mention, this is all for a good cause: raising awareness of the ever-​depleting Amazonian rainforest. I’ve travelled quite extensively throughout my life, and I’ve come to the conclusion that I will never have an experience as fulfilling and thrilling as I did with these guys. So, it looks like I’ll be travelling back to Peru someday, and I would never consider any other company to go with but Tamandua Expeditions. Thank you Paul for all the bragging rights and the adventure of a lifetime!

I’ve been to the Amazon. I’ve seen Macaws, frogs, spiders, a Blue Morpho, Caiman, and monkeys flying from branch to branch in the canopy. I’ve climbed a tree so breathtaking and tall that I never thought I’d make it. I’ve woken in the morning to the beautiful symphony of the jungle, and gone to sleep under a full and wild moon. I’ve jumped into the Madre de Dios and felt her current lift my limbs. I’ve conquered fears. I’ve found adventure and new friends. I’ve fallen in love with the Amazon; I would do it again in a heartbeat.
If you have an ounce of adventure in your bones, if you’re interested in learning new things, being outside, and loving your life, I would highly recommend Tamandua Expeditions for you. The Tamandua team is very knowledgeable, cautious (when need be), fun, and highly skilled. You won’t find more capable hands nor a more rewarding trip.

I went to The Amazon a few years ago with Tamandua Expeditions and it changed my life. I have not met or talked to anyone who has not had the same experience. Words do it no justice.
