I love this woman. If I wasn’t already married I’d ask for her hand. We’d make a cabin of tamales and drink aqua fresca on our tamale porch until the sunsets.

My son was in New York Pres Children’s Hospital and I took a break to go outside and get some food. What an AWESOME find. Good, home made awesome food. Had the«spicy pollo». Tasty, excellent, authentic. I really nice discovery in Washington Heights.

Located across from Duarte Square in front of the florist as soon as you emerge from 168th subway on St. Nicholas is Tamale Lady. I have only seen Tamale Lady, not Tamale Guy. Order pollo or otherwise as a first timer, picante o no picante, and the nice lady will oblige with some homemade tamales that will satiate the hungriest pedestrian. I’ve seen her in freezing temperatures and on holidays, braving the weather. Her tamales are a mild and not overly sweet respite from the cheap junk food normally offered from the McDonalds nearby. Friendly interaction at $ 1.25 per tamale=no complaints here. Support your local chow. Gracias Tamale Lady!

Tamale guy is both Tamale Guy and Tamale Lady, depending on when you go. $ 1.25 for delicious, delicious tamales. I don’t speak much spanish, but we meet in the middle and I’ve never had much trouble. Location could not be better. After a long train ride home from downtown, a smiling face and a cooler full of tamales is exactly what I need sometimes. I like to get the spicy chicken tamales when I have a cold. No exaggeration, they will clear your sinuses for $ 1.25. Why buy cold medication when you can have a delicious dinner and sinus treatment at the same time? One time I showed up around 8pm and all she had left was the… uh… Oaxaca? Oaxaca tamale? My knowledge of this cuisine is embarrassingly limited, but whatever that thing was, it was DELICIOUS too.

A very pleasant guy. Doesn’t really speak English but is very friendly. I think all his tamales are home-made, at least they taste that. Most of them are pretty spicy except for the berry ones, they are mild and sweet. I think it’s good quality and definitely great price — used to be $ 1, now $ 2 but they also grew in size :)

I don’t know much about tamales, but I like them and I understand that they’re pretty much top notch. He doesn’t really speak much English, but the guy got a new sign that makes the business look more legit(though he still sells them out of a supermarket cart). You can get cheese(watch out for the jalapeño), pork, chicken, bean, and sweet tamales.
