Just checked in rooms are clean and the staff is very respectful! The Manager Tiana and Swan are very professional and have shown nothing but Generosity and hospitality!

With the price you pay, it is definitely worth it. Location is great and the staff is friendly. Major problems are you can hear noise from other rooms, and the room is not a place to stay for more than a certain time. Recommend this only if you need a room to sleep.

What in hell was I thinking when I blindly booked a dirt cheap room in Manhattan? Emphasis on the DIRT.
Disgusting bathrooms, not once were they clean in the two nights I reluctantly spent there. When I say this I mean they were horrendous, drips from the ceiling, paper towels with excrement on just lying on the floor, all seemed to be swimming in what I hoped was water, the ceiling in most had bits of aircon hanging through. The list goes on.
The desk is manned by surly and rude staff, and the cleaners are pretty nonexistent.
Yes it is cheap, yes it is budget, yes the location is fairly good. A little care wouldn’t be a bad thing though, surely?

Please read the many articles on this slum housing. Do not stay here. If you have complain to Bowery 88 LLC. They own it. Obviously the city cares nothing about it. Too bad there are no negative stars.

This is my first time and I’m sure is my last time to write a comment in Unilocal,because I want to warning everyone that this hotel was «terrible» and «the worst hotel I ever seen»… «hotel» or «motel» those words can’t describe this one, if you want to experience the worst hotel, then try this one; otherwise find a better one.
First, I would like to say «bedroom» means only bed+small room, no other space. I read many comments about this hotel before I came, I knew it was bad and I only stay one night, so I didn’t concern about the environment and quality. I just want to have sleep… Remember. My goal is sleep only, but seriously I can’t sleep overnight, there are noisy sounds like bomb explode on the top between every 20 mins.(I don’t really know what makes the sounds but it was really noisy that you can’t barely sleep), and the bed was like it almost broke apart and fall down.
Second. price is high and no private bedroom. I remember my room after tax one night was $ 110, I’m sure you can get a room better than this one, even just a small motel, people say the local is good but there are lots of choices, hotel or motel around it that you can choose, but DON’T CHOOSE THIS ONE or you will Regret.

This place advertises that it has cable TV but none of the channels were working. They don’t even provide you with a remote. You just have to figure out which buttons to press in order to operate the TV itself. I’m short and there wasn’t any chair in the room to put me at an advantage, to see which buttons were which (buttons were on top of mounted TV). When my partner went to tell management about the channels not coming through, he said the female at the front gave him attitude. Really…(In my Richard Bey voice: where do they find these people?). When I went to get the manager, he said the server was down throughout the whole building. So these guys pretty much sold me a room knowing I would have no source of entertainment. Way to go staff for being a pro on how not to get returning customers. This place advertises air conditioning but the room only had a fan. The nerve of these people!!! Then they had the nerve to tell me that I had to put down a $ 20 deposit in case anything happened to the room. Um… excuse me but something was wrong with the room from the time I learned the TV was broken! The blinds were all twisted and bent back as if someone was thinking about escaping out of this hellhole via window but something stopped them. The pillow cases looked dingy as hell and the blankets looked like polka dots due to all these little black things all over it. I refused to get under the blanket, choosing to take the blanket from the single bed in the room and covering myself with it. It was a double room so there was a full sized bed along with a single bed. I was itching throughout the night, although I didn’t have any marks (bedbug bites). The water from the sink in the room took a while to get hot, initially only running cold water even though I turned on the hot side. The walls are so damn thin that I could hear everything these guys were saying. Its like they were in a hidden closet that I didn’t know was in my room. I was looking around like… wtf? I could even hear what songs people were listening to. I even heard a female practicing her rap lines. If you ask me, she participates in Queen of the Ring battles. She sounded nice and seemed to be my only source of entertainment for the night. Blah. I’m never coming here ever again!

How to read reviews may be or done one like me that I rushed myself without checking. It is dirty cockroaches are everywhere in your bed. Bed bugs will kill you in first hours if your arrival there is no wifi it is a lie bathrooms are shared 3 for 60 people and amazing dirty even I found feces on floor. When you sit in bathroom the top floor bathroom is leaking pees on your head everything is dirty and staff are rude and they barely speak English. It is noisy and it is in a dirty location. The whole night you hear other people coming and going. If looks like a hore house you see in movies. Rooms are 4×6 feet it is not a room it is size of grave. I wish this place closed down
Towels, sheets, everything is full of diet and smell of urine in all floors it is about 8 floors with no elevator. The biggest mistake oft life and I will ask for mg money

I knew paying about $ 40 a person for 4 people in a 2 bed room in NYC was probably not going to be the best accommodations. Not enough bathrooms for the all the people staying there. The staff was nice, and my friends and I barely stayed in the room for the night, but just know you’re getting what you pay for: NOT MUCH.

Worst place I’ve ever been!!! Each floor has 80 «rooms» (5 square meter) and 4 dirty little bathrooms to share with the entire floor… Also you can’t sleep cause you hear everything in the other rooms. Just terrible

Day 1: Disgusted, miserable, quietly whimpered as I tried to fall asleep.
Day 2: Feeling tough, unwaveringly angry, and impenetrable to any b.s. New York could throw at me. Finalized a new contract dev gig in the morning, got a ton of chores banged out in the afternoon.

Worst ever, it’s not a hotel at all, it’s not even a motel level, it’s just a floor with a bunch of so called «rooms» which r actually separated by wood boards without ceiling. U got public bathroom, and u r gonna be pissed off by the snore of the guy who sleeps 3 cells away from u. Cold place without heating at all. If u live here, I will feel sorry for ur money.

Spend 3 nights, night mare! Don’t forget to leave your toilet paper, gone in 60 seconds ! The Better idea would be to keep metro NY free news papers for them to wipe their ass or steal ! That’s the best scenario I see ! You don’t lose nothing. Lol it’s free anyways ! !!!
One more thing don’t forget to buy bug spray just in case. Actually it’s funny as hell. Did u buy Water bug adhesives too? Make sure leave it on the floor before you turn your lights off coz the shows should begin anytime after darkness creeps in.

If you have high expectations, don’t come here (5^th floor male dorm).
Positives — cheap, private room, private bathroom, air conditioned, free wi-​fi, good location (close to Grand St — B&D lines), Chinatown sells their items cheaper than other places in Manhattan.
Negatives — no elevator, smelly, looks like prison cells /​chicken cages, weird/​psycho «god knows what people» on the 3^rd & 4^th floors as you’re on the way up to your room, bathrooms look nasty and molded, room is approximately 6.5 ft x 5.5 ft, open ceilings with metal screens means you can hear EVERYTHING on the floor (neighbors, their cell phones, city traffic, etc…).
If you’re on a tight budget, stay here. If you have the money and can spend a little extra, stay somewhere else.

I give this hostel two stars only because I just left the Bowery Whitehouse hostel in East Village to arrive here.
It is a tad better here.

Located on the corner of Hester and Bowry, this hostel is on the edge of Chinatown and located 1 block from the Grand St. subway stop.
You walk upto the 2^nd floor to checkin.
The single/​double rooms on THIS FLOOR ONLY (Rooms 1 – 32 of the 2^nd floor) are the only ones that I would recommend.
This floor was fashioned like the motels that you will find in Hong Kong, altogether different from the dormitory structure in the above floors 3 – 5.
Walkings up the stairs, I peeped in to find that floors 3 – 4 looks like a crack den/​prison — DO NOT book your room on this floor, find alternative accomodations.
Floor 5 is better.
The same dormlike layout but newer.
Yes, the rooms of floor 3 – 5 of this hostel does not have complete ceilings, but it was still an improvement from Bowery Whitehouse hostel that I came from.
Higher walls, better insulation, better bathroom conditions, and POWER OUTLETS.
They also provide disposable toothbrush/​paste/​soap/​shampoo/​slippers.
The hostel does provide internet — actually the fastest that I’ve seen (6.76Mbps down 0.67 Mbps up via Verizon FiOS — per
) provided ever by a hostel, motel, or even hotel.
The problem is that its stationed on the 2^nd floor and did not reach the 5^th floor where my room was.

So I knew I was paying «dirt cheap» for a small unit but this was literally one step above being homeless.
1) There was no ceiling! It was chickenwire!
2) The old guy at the «front desk» was a total jerk
3) THERE IS NO INTERNET! THEY“RE A BUNCH OF LYING CHEATS ON THIS
4) There was one cheap foam blanket for a mattress that was too small for the frame and was not enough to stay warm at night
5) The place SMELLED of cat piss and god only knows what else
6) Floors 3 – 4 (2 – 3 of living area) is a nightmare. I think those are
reserved for the internationals who really can’t complain or don’t know how to complain
7) There were bugs broken facets, mold, and I’m not even sure what else in the restrooms.
8) There were many steps NO elevators. Because this is a HOSTILE. I’m sorry, I meant Hostel.
9) THE ONLY Shred of shining light that this place has is that it is convenient as hell because it’s in Manhattan and right by little Italy and the Italians really know service and food. Great pricing due to the near competition of the Chinese. It’s also very close to SOHO and only two blocks away from the subway.
Overall, this place was just reasonable enough for the price BUT it is not one for the weak! Be prepared to be shocked, bring nose plugs and ear plugs because like I said, there IS NO CEILING so you hear and smell EVERYTHING. If you are here, you plan to ONLY sleep if you are able to.

A budget travelors delight. More hostel than hotel. Spartin, BASIC accomodations but what a deal! Good location near subway, and the inexpensive restaurants of Chinatown and Little Italy. No elevator and many stairs but you won’t find anything much better on this tier of pricing.
Cramped but clean. The lowest cost rooms had no TV or alarm clocks. This is a good thing, as the chicken wire ceiling let’s you literally hear your neighbor inhaling and exhaling. Must be a sound sleeper. Converstions are no way private! Can see the lights from adjcent rooms bounce off the real ceiling through the wire mesh. Basic rooms are bare 5×7′ space with a 3′ narrow bed. No furnature or windows.
Shared contemporary bathrooms were single occupancy lockable spaces. A hair dryer, a course towel and most basic toiletries were provided. Reasonably clean.
Checked the bed bug registry
and noted no complaints about this address. Securitywise I personally felt safe but would’t want to leave anything like a laptop in room when away. If you want to visit NY City will be out all day, and just want a place to sleep, this is a real value. Simply know what you bargain for and you won’t be disappointed.

when I was looking for a place to stay after a show at the local Bowery Ballroom. It is right in Chinatown, where there are places to eat open all night, which was another reason I chose this place.
I got a single private room with a shared bathroom down the hall, but there are also dormitory-​type hostel rooms for men only. I have no idea what it is like up there on the 5^th floor.
The atmosphere is non-​descript. It was a Saturday night and I didn’t see anyone socializing or milling about. My single room was tight and tiny but very clean. no bugs! The bathroom was clean also. You DO hear thru the walls, tho. The blankets were sufficient, the bed was good.

The rooms are clean albeit not glamorous, the restrooms are shared, and yes — you can hear every word your neighbor says (whether it be in Chinese, Russian, or English — or maybe that was the TV?) You’re certainly not paying for the ambiance here.
What you are paying, a mere $ 30 on
, is for a decent bed and free toothpaste, toothbrush, shampoo, and soap in Chinatown — a door that locks and a relatively safe area — they even have TV with cable and free hot tea.
Would I bring my family here? No. Would I honeymoon here? No. Would I stay here again to save money for $ 300 dinners? Damn right.
