Reproductive Medicine Associates of New York – Westside

If you are a busy working woman like myself who needs quick, early-​morning appointments in order to go through cycles, and appreciate fast e-​mail/​phone responses, RMA of NY is a great place. Additionally, after asking around, I found it to be better in terms of pricing, which was important for us because we were working entirely out of pocket (and I ended up, through a link on RMA’s website, using a service called WinFertility, which brought pricing down further). In the beginning, I wasn’t wild about the place – I liked Dr. Stein, who is a hard-​working, kind, smart person, but only saw him once in awhile. There was another male doctor there whom I found sarcastic in response to the (reasonable!) questions I asked, and I learned to just grit my teeth whenever I had to see him. It helped that Dr. Stein responded to every e-​mail I sent him, and quickly. (I tried to keep to a minimum, knowing that he must get many e-​mails.) But I became accustomed to seeing whomever I saw, and when it came down to the actual IVF process, I was able to see Dr. Stein more regularly, which definitely increased my positive experience.
Some earlier reviewers on the main RMA of NY Unilocal site described the place as having a factory feel. This is not really a fair characterization; it’s more that it’s highly efficient, which I appreciated. Fertility clinics by nature deal with odds that are not great, and must therefore have volume. The key is for you to know what you’re getting into. I wasn’t looking for a highly personalized, slow, agonizing process; I was looking for a doc who would enable me to get pregnant quickly over 40 while still being able to maintain my fast-​paced job with little interruption, and also not entirely breaking the bank. I will say that it helps if you are someone who keeps yourself informed as opposed to expecting to be spoon-​fed by the clinic. The medication descriptions weren’t always as clear as they should have been, but I was able to get quick answers by calling the clinic and also through my own Internet research. I did find the injection videos RMA provided very helpful when going through the regimen.
I did wish there was more information on RMA’s website, as I was hungry for every scrap of information about the potential success of my efforts, after all the shots/​medicines, clinic visits, and $. That said, there are numerous clinics out there that have websites that are extraordinarily helpful —

youtube vids by Sher Fertility Institute (I’m sure there are many others I looked at as well). I relied on these to inform myself on every step of the process. Also, you can find information about RMA’s success rates on RMA’s website, as well as a link to the comparative data. The comparative data seems to show that RMA’s success rates are relatively high. (There was a clinic or two that appeared higher, but I recall the volume being much smaller, so it was hard to credit those figures.)
And I’m now an additional tally in the «positive» category. Took several failed IUIs and one IVF cycle. A word to the wise — strongly consider PGD to avoid heartache. I didn’t know what it was when I started out, except that it was more $. Do some research, and you’ll see that in the grand scheme of things, the $ is not that significant, while it significantly increases your chances once you’ve implanted.
Bottom line, if you want to get pregnant against the odds, RMA of NY is the place.

This review is way, way overdue. I have infertility issues due to blocked fallopian tubes.
I first met with Dr. Keltz and he was going to be my IVF doctor. Prior to starting IVF, He had to perform a laparoscopy to remove a remaining blocked tube and it was successful. For some unforeseen reason he was no longer with the practice and was assigned to Dr. Stein.
Let me tell you Dr. Stein is down to earth and clear. Thanks to him I was able to conceive on the first round of IVF! I can’t thank him enough for our now 3 month old daughter. When I am ready for the next round of IVF, I will definitely be returning to his practice.
on a side note, the office staff is nice. however, you will need to make sure to stay on top of them. at times we found they were not as organized as they should have been.
Now the actual place where the embryo were transfer, they were completely professional and kind. I am so happy they helped make my dream of becoming a mother come true!

Looking at all of the prior 5 stars reviews, it’s obvious that Dr. Stein and RMA are excellent. I saw Dr. Stein after being diagnosed with PCOS and ready to start ovulation induction medication right away. Dr. Stein accommodated the tight timing so that I did not lose the cycle. The office has monitoring hours every morning, no appointment needed, which is very convenient. I came in at 7 each time, and never waited longer than 15 minutes. I saw all of the doctors during the monitoring of the growth of my follicles leading up to my trigger shot. The doctor on call the day of my schedule IUI was not Dr. Stein, but she was also excellent, and performed the IUI. And it was a success on the first try! After that, I saw Dr. Stein for 3 ultrasounds (once you are pregnant, you come in on days that Dr. Stein does monitoring). He has a wonderful disposition and I truly felt like he cared about the success of my treatments. The staff were all friendly, including the nurses who are readily available to answer any questions and return calls the same day, the lab techs who draw blood with minimal pain, and the receptionists. I highly recommend this practice to anyone with trouble TTC. Before I came to RMA, I was told by my gynecologist that I need to go to a doctor that does not take insurance, otherwise I would just feel like a number in a factory. That could not be further from the truth and I am extremely grateful that someone else recommended Dr. Stein and RMA to me!

I cannot say enough good things about RMA Westside and Dr. Stein. We were previously treated at Columbia and had a horrible experience. Dr. Stein gave us hope. He was informative, reassuring, and hopeful, which was needed for us after TTC for over a year and being almost 35. We are very lucky because we went right into IUI and it worked on the first try! Even if we weren’t successful right away, I still think they are amazing there. From the front desk staff to the blood techs to the nurses and the doctors, I couldn’t have been happier there. I never thought I would actually look forward to my fertility appointments but I really did because it was always such a pleasurable experience. I would recommend this place to anyone who’s having trouble TTC, you won’t regret it!

My husband and I were referred to Dr. Stein after 1 year of trying to conceive. Dr. Stein was very straightforward and clear on what course of action to take and we are now 34 weeks pregnant with twins — on our 1^st try. To say we were pleased with RMA is an understatement. Yes there were some hiccups along the way — long waits, billing, etc but no Dr’s office is perfect. However all the doctors very professional and answered the question we had. If the doctors weren’t available there was always a nurse available to answer our questions or call back with a few hours if we left a voicemail. Overall we were highly satisfied and would refer RMA of New York Westside to anyone having fertility issues.

My husband and I have been seeing Dr. Stein for 2 years. I went to him with issues of PCOS and infertility. After almost 10 yrs of us ttc we needed help. He was very honest on what we needed to do (I also was very obese) So I followed a plan now thanks to him and his staff we are expecting our 1^st baby. He is truly a blessing he gave us hope when we thought there was know.
We love the staff they are all helpful and caring.

Dr steihn is great and I can’t be more happier with him. Very good side manner. One thing I can’t stand is the office organization… Very poorly organize. After was told all good, I receive a call from the dr nurse asking if I was informed of the result. Shldnt they know? Also they tell you all this steps for test makes you go through this anxiety but don’t mention that appt still is based on availability. So if no space and you pass your cycle you have to wait another month. Wish they can be more organize then it will be all perfect

Went to Dr. Stein for infertility treatments.
I had three previous ivf failures, but stayed with Stein because I trust and respect his opinion, now 8 weeks pregnant with twins. Especially having three prior attempts I felt defeated, Stein was an advocate for my case and made me feel supported. His staff is accessible and you can call leave a voicemail and get a call back later that same day when you have a question. I also was able to email Dr. Stein directly as well as the nurses. Nursing staff has some real gems that are just sweethearts and I will miss now that I’m going back to my obgyn. Despite some finance issues that I’m resolving with my insurance (I’m out if network) and Rma, I recommend Stein.

My husband and I started seeing Dr. Stein after a year of trying to conceive. After two rounds of IUI I finally became pregnant. I have him to thank for my beautiful healthy son. we’re forever in his debt. His nursing staff is friendly and very helpful. Wait time in the office was approx 10 – 15 minutes. Which was great for me since my appointments were all in the morning right before work and I was never late.

Dealing with infertility problems can be very overwhelming and scary. It is important to find a doctor that you feel cares about you and not just you as a number. Dr. Stein came highly recommended by a friend however from my first appointment at the office, I felt like just a number. The office felt like a factory, and at times seriously felt like I was playing musical chairs outside of the waiting room waiting for my turn to go in. Dr. Stein himself is a very nice man, but the nurses are what really drove me crazy. Normally it doesnt matter what the nurses are like however at this practice, the nurses are the ones who give you the instructions of all medication and meet with you right after your examination with Dr. Stein. My husband and I have never dealt with such incompetent nurses in o erntire life! They asked me for paperwork that was in my file, asked me when I got my last period (which was the reason I was there) one day lost my file and as a result had to wait 45 minutes to be seen, and numberous other self explanatory questions which answers were directly in my file. Overall, it was a very stressful experience and 1 month after switching doctors to Dr. Cary Dicken at SHER fertility who I can’t say enough great things about I am happily pregnant!

My husband and I went to Dr. Stein after 2+ years of pregnancy issues. He was caring, attentive and gave us great advise. Dr. Stein conducted my IVF cycle and was there to help us and advise us through every step of the process. He is caring, honest and always takes time to listen to questions and provide an honest perspective. I am now 12 weeks pregnant and could not thank him enough
The staff in his office is one of the most efficient I have ever seen. I am not a big fan of nursing staff usually, but Dr. Stein’s staff is really good. they always follow up on calls, and are very patient with instructions. Even emergency /​night calls were answered effectively

Dr. Stein was recommended to me by my normal gyno after I stopped being on the pill and had ameneuresis for two years. He put me on the right medications right away and I was pregnant within the first month! Overall I had a great experience with Dr. Stein. His staff was friendly and professional, and he himself is always smiling and open to communication. The only downside are the inconsistent waiting times. There were days when I was in and out in under 15 minutes, and other days where I would be there an hour and a half and only spend 5 – 10 minutes «being seen».
I am so grateful to Dr. Stein and his caring staff. I definitely recommend them for infertility issues!

What a friendly, organized, professional and nurturing office! Dr. Stein is so knowledgeable and my husband and I couldn’t have asked to be in better hands! The office was always filled with patients, yet the secretaries were very accommodating with getting me appointments, I thought that they were very friendly! Since this whole process was very new to my husband and I, questions came up during the days/​weeks in between my visits. I loved that I could call the nurse with a question at any time– I would leave a voicemail and they would always call me back within 2 – 3 hours that day. Just one cycle and my husband and I are now 3 months pregnant! I would HIGHLY recommend going to see Dr. Stein for ant fertility problems! Best of luck!

I’ve been under Dr. Stein’s care for over 4 years now. I first went to him after being newly diagnosed with PCOS and struggling to conceive. Our first consultation convinced me to put my trust in him as he clearly was an expert on the subject. We laid out a course of treatment and thankfully a few cycles later I was pregnant with my first child. I returned to him a few months ago after ttc unsuccessfully on our own and a few cycles later, we’re pregnant again with baby#2. He’s not a warm & fuzzy doctor, but he always has taken the time to answer my questions thoroughly and left the decision to my husband and I in terms of how agressive a course of action we wanted to pursue. The wait times were sometimes long, and the office staff not the friendliest, but Dr. Stein is an excellent doctor and we are forever in his debt for our beautiful family.

Do yourself a favor and avoid Dr. Stein and Continuum Reproductive Center at ALL COST. At no point will you feel like anyone (Drs., staff, nurses) cares about you. Everyone in that office is just plain rude. You get attitude the moment you walk through the door. No one smiles, nor do they put you at ease. This is such a sensitive time for a couple and it’s so important to have the proper environment and care. There are much better doctors out there who can at the very least fake caring about you and still make money.
