History
Established in 2012.
Owner and founder John Rubin explains how he came to the idea of creating Replay Studios; «After living in NYC for nearly 20 years, working as a child therapist/social worker, drum teacher and musician, I had a vision: to open a rehearsal space that is both appealing to the professional and welcoming to young musicians. I saw an opportunity to create a space where my own kids would feel comfortable and inspired, while also providing my fellow musicians with a first-rate rehearsal experience. Given today’s available technology, it only seemed logical to integrate state-of-the-art video and audio recording into the studios as well. The result of this is Replay Studios and I hope it will grow to be a community where musicians of all ages can meet and play in a place like no other.»
Meet the Business Owner
John R.
Business Owner
With a BA in psychology and an MSW from Columbia University, John Rubin served as a child therapist and social worker for over 15 years. While working with children, he observed that the love of music can make a powerful difference in how an individual relates to the world. An accomplished drummer, Rubin has performed at CBGB’s, The Bottom Line, Symphony Space, Webster Hall and The Mercury Lounge, among other venues, and has recorded regularly throughout his career. Rubin’s musical training includes a period of study at The Drummer’s Collective with Michael Lauren and Fred Klatz, as well as studying privately with Andrew Cyrille and Master Drummer Michael Carvin. Most important, however, is the rapport Rubin has cultivated both with his staff and with his students, based on the belief that personal expression is at the heart of meaningful music.
