Established in 2004.

I have 8 years professional IT experience working for New York University, teaching digital technologies and providing tech support. After a budget cut at NYU in 2004 eliminated my position, I started Pro Mac NYC to offer expert, reliable, affordable computer tech support to both individuals and small businesses. Since then I’ve had had over 500+ clients — many who I work with on a continual basis again and again. Most new clients now come via a word of mouth recommendation from another client. Jed Weaver has been using, fixing, and teaching computers for 20+ yrs. His experience includes New York University’s IT Dept (Senior Arts Technologist, Arts Technology Group, ITS, as well as NYU Tisch School of the Arts, Dept of Film and TV: video, film, audio, MIDI. He managed & designed 2 advanced Digital Media Labs at NYU at both places. In addition to being an Apple support tech he also designs web sites (specializing in Wordpress).

I was very impressed with Jared and his services. He came to my place and within the first 10 minutes had turned a lethargic 2009 iMac into a machine I can use without being frustrated, aggravated or motivated to purchase a new one.

Jed is really good at providing tech assistance, he rescued data from my old drive in 24 hours. Another time he installed new hard drive and backed up the old one, and is generous with advice. Honest person, admits if he does not know something, and does the work himself or tells you where to get it done.

My experience was less than satisfying with Jed Weaver. I called him because of the enthusiastic reviews on Unilocal when my wife’s Mac Mini would not start. He came right away, the next day, and spent 15 minutes with the machine and said it was either a logic board or a power supply and that I had to take it in to Apple. He said he felt bad about charging me $ 30 for the call when he didn’t really do anything but diagnose the problem. On the way out, he asked to see my computer, the same model. It was working very slowly, so he spent the rest of the hour cleaning up the clogs and mentioned that I’d have a faster machine if I increased the RAM. Then he got up and called it «an even hour,» and asked for $ 85. The next day, my computer was operating as slowly as it was before. He called and sent me an email saying he had 4K of RAM which he’d happily install for $ 50 plus $ 25 for labor. When I sent him an email asking him if the upgrade would be guaranteed (as it was from a third-​party vendor; i.e. him), he never responded. He seemed more interested in generating work than worrying about getting my wife’s computer back on line. I can’t honestly recommend him.

This might be the most deserved 5-​star review I’ve ever given on Unilocal – Jed is as good as it gets.
So my computer died about a week ago with no foreshadowing. Just one morning boom, wouldn’t turn on. Gray screen of death. PANIC. Especially because I’m a cheap idiot and kept putting off buying an external hard drive to back up the incredible amount of crap I’ve accumulated on this old MacBook Pro. Ugh, why do I do this to myself.
So, said PANIC led me to Unilocal,where I found Jed, aka Pro Mac NYC. Not too many reviews, but I thought I’d give it a shot since he seemed accommodating and knowledgable. I called him with my problems and he was able to fit me in that day – awesome! It only took him 24 hours to get back to me with what was wrong with my computer and the steps we needed to take to fix it. He was 100% upfront about the costs from the get go, which is super helpful to me as a perpetually cash-​strapped student. What he quoted me was probably like 1⁄8 of what I thought it was going to cost for all he did, but then again, what do I know about computers. In any case, it was extremely reasonable.
He’s given me back my computer in amazing shape and then some. He even showed me a few new tricks on it and installed some extras that he thought I would find helpful. I don’t think I’ve ever experienced such thoughtful and attentive services, especially not for my computer (ahem, Apple Store.)
Anyway, tl;dr: Jed is awesome. If you’re panicking like I was because your computer is broken and angry at you please call him. He will make it all better again. And not leave you broke. The end!

I messed up the upgrade for my older iMac and was stuck. I searched Craigslist this morning and saw Pro Mac’s ad and called Jed. I explained the situation and he changed his schedule a bit to come over and finish my upgrade. He was here within 45 minutes as he promised and started working on the iMac after asking a few questions and confirming the situation.
While the iMac was upgrading, he offered to look at my other MAC and we updated that as well to the latest version. He left me with my upgrade in a good spot and instructions for restoring from my backup. He didn’t need to stay and charge me money for that and he was honest about it. He did say he would call me later in the day to make sure everything worked and if it didn’t he could remote in. The upgrade finished fine and I restored my data.
As he promised, he called me later to check and everything was fine. I’ve used a couple of techs before a long time ago and I would recommend Jed for any work you may have.

Pro Mac NYC is not just for «Pros» but for non-​pros who just need computer help. However, they did help me with my Documentary and have helped me with every new computer purchase for the last 6+ years. Reliable, dependable and super helpful.
