The Poet’s Den Theater and Gallery might just be New York’s most beautiful and widely-​celebrated independent theater. Complete with a spacious gallery ideal for pre– and post– performances get-​togethers, the theater showcases a wide variety of independent, documentary, mainstream, and foreign films as well as theatrical plays, concerts and dance. Its location in East Harlem draws an interesting mix of hardcore theater enthusiasts, students, and tourists.

History

Established in 2001.

Originally a school built in 1889; the Luigi Galvani Junior High School was one of

the many schools that served all the different ethnic groups that have made East

Harlem their home at different times throughout the years.

Abandoned in the early 1970’s until purchased by one of the many pioneers of

the early 1980’s it was transformed into the Magnolia Mansion Condominiums, a

beautiful place to live and to call home.

Raphael Benavides has worked with some of Broadway most notable productions and has vast experience producing outstanding theater productions.

His theater production company has been very prolific producing outstanding musicals, including «A Soldier’s Song», «The Importance of Doing Art» and many other off Broadway plays, comedy shows, Poetry Slams, concerts etc. and his marketing company «East Harlem Presents» provides marketing strategies for many Broadway Production companies, he has worked with productions such as «The Mountaintop», «Stickfly», «Wicked», «Godspell», «Ghost» and many others.
