Krav Maga Experts – Upper West Side

I’m writing this with hands still shaking. The Fit 2 Fight class is no joke. Carlos pushes you and makes you test your physical limit, which is more than you probably thought. I’ll definitely be back but probably for the All Levels intro class for a couple of times. Maybe after that, I’ll be ready to get out of the floor hold.

Sick sick sick!!! Joining for sure. Professional and understanding staff will make sure you are paired with the right partner if you are new. Get ready to get aggressive. It’s an investment in your life.

I am soooo disappointed. I wanted a beginner class and was put into a tough one. While I was disappointed in the class, I am extremely impressed by the customer service. The owner called to ask if I was okay, refunded my class, offered a different intro class and was exceptionally professional. While this class is not for me, the company leadership is remarkable.

Krav Maga Experts has changed my life. I know that’s a little dramatic, but it’s true. The instructors are amazing and supportive, and push you just far enough to help you improve as fast as possible without breaking you. After a year of training, I feel super empowered, and even though I know I have a long way to go, I know I could put up a good fight if I got in trouble.
Definitely take Fit to Fight with Carlos, it’s ridiculously hard but so worth it. Take weapons with Raz. Whenever you can get a class or private with Tsahi or Kira, definitely do that too. Actually, all of the instructors rock! Just start coming! Now! Do it! You’ll be happy you did.

This is an awesome and challenging workout. They mean business, so don’t show up looking for an easy time! The class I took (using ClassPass) definitely pushed me out of my fitness comfort zone– in a good way – and taught me some really helpful self-​defense strategies. You will walk away dripping in sweat and feeling like a total badass.

Krav Maga (as it’s practiced at Krav Maga Experts) is unlike anything else I’ve done before. Having had no prior experience in martial arts or self defense, I was initially intimidated by the hardcore feel of the space, but I couldn’t be happier that I stuck it out. I honestly could spend all day waxing lyrical about everyone man, woman, and child there, but I reserve my highest praise for the instructors. Their expertise is second to none, and I feel exponentially safer armed with what they’ve taught me. They push me HARD and relentlessly demand my all, but that intensity is coupled with an unshakeable faith in my potential. They never cut corners, giving specialized attention to each and every one of us, and their passion for Krav Maga is electric and contagious. Their integrity, compassion, and commitment to improving their students’ lives always inspire me to be the best and strongest possible version of myself. As I’ve conditioned my body and learned to protect myself, I’ve also realized that I’ve been gradually (and unwittingly) surrounding myself with people I respect so immensely that I’m terrified to let them down. This is a supportive, irrepressible community of accomplished badasses, and I would highly recommend it to all who are interested. You won’t regret it!

Short version: Training with Krav Maga Experts remains unequivocally the best decision I’ve made regarding not only my physical fitness, but my personal safety and self-​confidence as well. You should definitely join. Now. Do it!
Our instructors are the definition of high-​caliber human beings. I’m so fortunate to be constantly exposed to real-​world role models, people whose achievements and attitude I badly want to model my future on. They are creative, intelligent, and kind. They are also incredibly capable and fast, and they fight with intense aggression and dedication. Our instructors will motivate you to WORK. They will push you past whatever you thought your limit was. They’ll tell you, «You’re not as breakable as you think you are!» And they’ll be right. They will ask you to give 110%, and you will do your damnedest to deliver. Every time I’m there, I find myself doing things I «can’t do.»
Personal reflections: I don’t know if it’s possible to write a review that truly does justice to the incredible powerhouse that is Krav Maga Experts, but I hope this begins to express what a positive force it has become in my life. After surviving a sexual assault, and (for all intents and purposes) losing the subsequent four years to unrelenting fear and depression, I was searching desperately for some structure, a formalized sense of having a safe place in the world. On July 1^st, 2014, I started training at KME’s UWS location (the main hub). I wasn’t consciously aware of it at the time, but when I walked through their door I had found my safe place.
When it comes to learning krav maga, you get out of it what you put into it. I’ve been training roughly seven days a week for almost nine months, and I’ve come a long way in that time. I’m in the best shape I’ve ever been in. I’ve learned how to escape from chokeholds, fight up from a supine position underneath an attacker, and throw punches and elbows like it’s nobody’s business. I’m learning how to defend against attacks with a knife, a pistol, and a baton/​baseball bat. AND I CAN DO PULL UPS! WHAAAT!
*Ahem* Sorry, got a little overexcited for a second there.
Once you’re hooked on krav maga, you’ll develop an enormous reservoir of confidence and self-​knowledge/​respect. A month or two later you’ll REALIZE that you’ve developed an enormous reservoir of confidence and self-​knowledge/​respect. You will speak of krav incessantly to your friends (and anyone else who will listen), in your home and on your way, when you lie down and when you rise up. If you’re anything like me, you’ll find yourself shadowboxing between columns while you wait for the subway. Like a champ!

I had previously studied Krav Maga for about three years at another studio in the city. I then got married, had a kid, and put my KM studies on hold for a few years.
I recently restarted my KM training by testing out classes at a few different studios in the city. To be honest, they all provided a good workout and great self-​defense training. However, IKM New York is by far my favorite place to train.
Tsahi and Carlos are both nice guys and great instructors. They both create a safe and friendly environment. But make no mistake about it — the workouts are tough! KM will get you in great shape.
Every time I’ve attended a class I learned a new technique or improved on a technique I’ve previously learned.
The classes attract a wide demographic range. I’ve seen teenagers there and guys who appear to be about sixty. There are students who appear to be in amazing physical shape and students who are not in the best of shape. Classes tend to be about 30% women.
Basically, there is room for all types at these classes and nobody should be intimidated about attending one.
Trust me, KM will build your self-​confidence!

I want to highly recommend Krav Maga Experts to anyone seeking an incredible work out. For me it has been more than a workout… It has been a life changer. I have never been able to keep up a work out regiment. But since I joined Krav Maga Experts I have not stopped going for over a year now!
Tsahi, Carlos and all the other instructors are incredible. They are extremely professional and know what they are doing. But most importantly they know how to teach it to anyone from expert to novice. I have brought friends over and they have agreed that the work out is challenging and that the fighting techniques are relevant to everyday life. Krav Maga has changed me into a motivated, hard working individual, it has become my new healthy addiction. I would highly encourage anyone to try it out. Just come see for yourself and you will be able to stop coming!

I am so pleased with my experience with Krav Mega. I was not aware it was not just self defense, it taught me to be aware of my surrounding when walking, riding the trains or being in social gatherings. I love the way Krav incorporates strength training and applies it to the self defense mechanisms.
The instructors I had Tsahi, Tim and Zamiri are very patient with you and go step by step with their explanations.

IKM New York is hands down the best Krav Maga gym in Manhattan! Though the classes are taught in a group setting the instructors do an excellent job of focusing on and helping each student develop their skills. Additionally, the instructors are all really well trained and just awesome people who are fun to hang out with. The environment is also a really warm and supportive environment (I remember when I began as a new student I felt welcomed by everyone right away). The classes are perfect for all levels, from beginner to expert the instructors will challenge you and push you to succeed.
Anyone looking to give krav maga a shot I would tell them that this is the place to come train.

IKM Krav Maga New York is the best Krav Maga studio in the city. The classes are appropriate for all skill levels, from beginner to expert. Most of the classes tend to blend skills from each level of training, which means that you’re always learning something new. This makes classes not only engaging, but challenging as well. The classes are generally between ten to twenty-​five students with one, two or three instructors depending on the mix of levels and size of the class and you will definitely see your skills improving from week to week because of this.
Speaking of the instructors, they are at the tops of their field. Each instructor at IKM has a very unique blend of expertise and training that work together to give each student the best possible instruction. They are all highly skilled, very approachable and have a talent for adjusting their teaching techniques to fit each individual’s learning style.
If you’re looking for a great self-​defense class, or even just a great non-​traditional fitness regiment I would highly suggest going to IKM New York. I can say with confidence that whatever your expectations are, IKM New York will surpass them.

Ive been here for a few months now. Absolutely love it. The instructors are very observant towards their students and will take the time to correct you so you can improve. Its also a steal for the price. ⁵⁄₅!

I’ve been attending classes– both Krav Maga and conditioning– at IKM New York for the last five months. As a young (24) woman in New York City, I think self-​defense courses are one of the most impactful measures you can take for improving your chances in a sketchy situation– –whether that be life or death, or just someone looking at you inappropriately. Not only that– it was been my experience that Krav Maga can hone your natural instincts, improve your fitness and take your confidence level up a few notches– not just in physical altercations, but in life.
In terms of staff, IKM New York is truly blessed– — not just in talent, but in attitude, personal attention, sense of humor.everything. I have nothing negative to say about these incredible men and women, who spend so much of their time improving the health, safety and overall well-​being of others. I have learned so much through their skill and passion, and have really started to see the studio as a second home.
Oh, and did I mention that every staff member is like otherworldly good-​looking? An added bonus.

I went in to Krav Maga, and this class in particular, with a high level of interest and low expectations and was blown away by the great experience facilitated by our instructor, Tsahi. Besides being knowledgeable, Tsahi is friendly, funny, and passionate about what he does… and beyond that, he pushes you, making sure you get the most from the class. In addition, the other students at IKM New York were friendly and supportive without going easy, helping to create a positive and challenging atmosphere.
As of now, I’ve been with the studio a bit over a year, joining a couple months before they moved to the new space on 100^th street and while classes were good before they’re amazing now, providing a wider variety of offerings, more class times and a better space.
Put shortly, if you’re looking to learn self-​defense or take up an awesome and practical activity check out IKM New York… I really can’t say enough good things about it!

I’ve been going to IKM Krav-​Maga for over a year now and as a fellow instructor I can say with confidence that Tsahi Shemesh is one of the best Krav-​Maga instructors in the US.
The attention to detail and patience, and at the same time the way he and his staff challenge you to grow in Krav-​Maga is second to none. The experience as a whole has been life changing, as I learned not only to defend myself and others if needed, but I’ve also discovered an inner confidence I did not know I had. Tsahi brought it out of me.
I believe whole-​heartily that one cannot find a better Krav-​Maga instructor in all of New York (Believe me — I tried, many instructors before finding Tsahi…) and he is one of the best in the country.
They hold many seminars with world renowned instructors frequently, as an added training option and bring in the biggest name instructors from Israel, where Krav-​Maga was born.

Tsahi, the teacher is so incredibly passionate about his company that has from what I understand, tripled in size recently. He really cares about his students and pays very special attention to everyone. He is very organized and takes his classes very seriously… he is highly skilled himself and has a lot of knowledge to share. A very passionate and highly professional instructor, indeed!
I would highly recommend these classes to anyone interested in any form of self defense.
