After going here for over a year and spending a lot of money. they acted with absolutely no integrity. What a joke. they lost the belt to a jacket i own. I reported it to them when i tried to wear it a couple weeks later — and i brought back the jacket to the store and was told «dont worry there’s no reason we wouldnt find it».
then they went on vacation or something and finally delivered my jacket two weeks or so later– without a belt with a note «sorry but your belt was not found. you should have notified us sooner. Thank you»
Wow. no, thank you for being not helpful and then telling me it’s MY FAULT. right, i shouldnt have trusted my belongings with you so i guess it IS my fault.

Only thing good about this place is the positive attitude of these guys and the welcoming personality. I don’t know how they managed to get such high ratings considering they couldn’t shorten my blazer’s sleeves and yet claimed to have done so, but not to the original length we agreed upon. They claimed the buttons would have been disturbed, which makes no sense because any tailor worth their salt would be able to solve for that.
What is worse is that they didn’t bother telling me they were incapable of shortening the sleeves prior to paying for the non-​service. I even payed for it to be rushed. Not at all ethical, I won’t be going back.

From my fiancé: Despite living quite far from John’s Cleaners and Tailors, I’ve been using them for years for all my tailoring needs. I’ve taken five suits and a tux there, and all have turned out great — they fit perfectly, are very comfortable to wear, and most importantly, I feel like I look great in them. The customer service is also top notch, the prices are good, and the turnaround times are quick. I most recently had two suits done by Marios, who is extremely professional and takes great pride in his work. I’ve had problems with my pants fabric running thin in the past, so Marios added lining to the pants — the lining was added seamlessly (pants lost no comfort) and I’ll get to enjoy them for years. I’ll continue to recommend John’s to all my friends.

Amazing tailors. Exceptionally friendly and as someone who conducts a ton of research before deciding where to get her jeans hemmed, John’s Tailors didn’t disappoint. Reasonable prices and family run business. They’re also extremely accommodating. So glad I found this place.

Good tailoring but completely lacking customer service skills. John, the father, is top notch but his youngest son lacks people skills. As a long time customer that treks over from the west side I don’t expect to be insulted and won’t be going back. Suggest you do the same.
I had a dress to be shortened for my gf and had second thoughts after being measured. Was rudely reminded about a fitting charge and treated as someone that hadn’t supported this business for the last 2 years. I can pay any fitting fee and would have preferred a simple reminder that there is a fee. His son rudely insulted me and my girlfriend. I will not support a business that doesn’t value their customers.
Suggest you support other tailors that know it’s about the product as well as how you treat your customers.

Nice guys — did an amazing job hemming my white jeans and tailoring my khaki blazer. Total cost $ 60 — cash only.

Customer service is top notch! I dropped off two items for dry cleaning and picked it up 3 days later, which isn’t bad at all. The prices are reasonable for NYC and they did a good dry cleaning job. I have it to give 3 stars only because I found two long light brown hairs on my coat when I removed the plastic covering! Those were definitely not mine so I was skeeved out by that! Maybe it was from the lady who packaged my dry cleaning but that’s definitely NOT what anyone wants to find on their newly dry cleaned clothes! I haven’t tried their tailoring services yet but I’m sure these guys do an excellent job. Maybe I’ll just stick to their alteration services instead of dry cleaning =/

Great neighborhood tailor. Got two pants hemmed to perfection!
Only drawback being that it’s cash only, but I don’t think that’s a big deal personally (though I do acknowledge that that’s a huge drawback for some).

Totally up to the reviews. Very quick turned around simple hems two pairs of pants. Just over an hour wait. Well done. 30 $ out the door. Will be bringing back more business. Great example of Unilocal at work fellow Unilocalers!

John’s did a great shortening my dress by raising the waistline. They were helpful, friendly, and really fast! They asked me when I wanted to pick up my dress when I dropped off Saturday morning. I asked if Monday at 9am was a possibility and they made it ready by then.
So glad to have found a quality tailor just 2 blocks from my apartment.

I was very happy with the completed dress and the fast turn around time.
The father was soft spoken and spent time discussing what I wanted done to the dress.
There were tons of other bridesmaid dresses and wedding dresses being altered so lots of other people know how great John’s is.
I deducted 1 star because it was kinda pricy, but maybe this is what alterations cost?
My Davids dress was $ 150 and the alterations were $ 120.
Overall I will be back!

Bought a pair of nice jeans at Bloomingdales that I needed shortened about two inches. When I asked the Bloomingdales worker who had helped me where their alterations department was, she quickly pulled out a business card for John’s. It would be quicker, cheaper and they do a great job on denim, she told me.
I’m sure the store wouldn’t be happy she’s pushing money outside their walls, and she’s likely getting a kick-​back from John’s (respect the hustle), but man, was that a good recommendation.
After quickly trying to locate the department store’s tailor and getting frustrated with the lack of attention, I walked the block and a half to John’s, where I was promptly measured. Pants were ready the next day, for $ 15, and you could not tell they had been altered — that’s how good the work was.
For anyone buying at Bloomingdales, John’s is the move.

I’m glad Unilocal led me to these guys after a bad experience with a neighborhood tailor. I’ve taken just one pair of pants for hemming to them so far, but they were just as polite and professional in person as all other previous reviews profess. As another poster notes, the no-​cards policy is unfortunate, but they announced that to me pretty quick on arrival. I saw a card reader on their counter, so maybe it’s just a preference they have.

They DO NOT accept credit cards, contrary to what is stated in the Unilocal profile. Sorry, gotta deduct one star for this reason, regardless of whose fault that is!
Otherwise, I had a great experience. Quality of work was stellar. I brought in a high quality tux shirt that needed sleeve tapering and shortening. Great work for a pretty reasonable price, and they worked with my short time frame (with no complaints).
As stated by others, it’s a true family business. Father and sons working side by side was nice to see.

This is a family power house. From father to both sons they are a dream team and do wonders to your clothing.
It took me many months to find a decent tailor and even when I bought bespoke suits for thousands of dollars a piece, the job doesn’t compare to John’s work.
With close to 40 years of experience, John knows exactly what he is doing and can make you look like you came out of a magazine.
I bought all of my suits to him and I don’t stop getting compliments from everyone who sees me wearing them.
Very reasonably priced and down to earth team. Highly recommended.

I came in on a Monday and wanted to get a pair of pants from J Crew Ludlow tapered and slimmed up in general. Tuesday I picked up the pants and they were perfect. 25 $ to take in the pants and the job was flawless.
The guys working there are all very nice as well.

I go here all the time for alterations. I also had my Louis Vuitton handbag restored and it looked perfect.
Everyone there is really nice and efficient. Highly recommend!

In an oral communications class, I once gave a speech about the benefits of being short for our entertainment speech assignment. I talked about Dr. Stuart Little’s very scientific experiment (all of my references were made up), and about how short people can fit through any sized door and win almost every game of limbo and hide-​and-​go-​seek.
Unfortunately, those with shorter legs almost always need to hem their pants. Darn.
John’s is a family-​run business. When I first entered the cozy shop, I was greeted with warm smiles by all three family members, and was tended to almost immediately. A customer walked in right after me who needed to get another one of his suits altered, so their work seemed promising.
After leaving 7 articles of clothing with them, I returned a week later to pay and pick up my items. I was incredibly happy with the hemmed pants, but the pants that I needed taken in at the sides and waist were still a bit baggy, and not exactly like the measurements and fitting that I had done with them the prior week. More than that, the sewing job on a pair that had a tear was a bit sloppy and made the tear that much more noticeable. I was the most upset about a job they had done on a skirt; there was a tear below the zipper line, but when it came back to me they had sewn part of the bottom of the zipper line so that I couldn’t zip all the way down anymore. While I can still get into the skirt, this lack of attention to detail disappointed me the most.
Prices were also a bit high and I felt that I paid much more for what I received.
Likelihood of another visit:
I was very happy with their pleasant, friendly personalities and was happy to know that 7 alterations would only take a week, but I don’t think I’ll come back unless I need some pants hemmed.
2.5 stars.

Have to give these guys five stars.
1. They are very professional. As soon as you walk in someone will be with you, figuring out how to best help you, explaining the work they intend to do and price.
2. They are fast. They basically asked me when I wanted it done. I might have been able to have retrieved it same day but I was busy.
3. They executed well. They did a great job on my repairs.
I plan to bring them more work tomorrow. I wish I had found out about them, sooner.
