Lynda at Rising Star Resume thanks for all the great advice. Lynda is amazing she was disciplined, punctual, positive, polite and passionate about her work. After struggling to write my own resume Lynda helped make my resume important & relevant.

I worked with John on my resume. Not only he did a great job, but he took the extra mile to research the stuff we discussed and added great touches to the resume.
After I contacted him, we set up a time to meet and after it took him less than a week to complete the resume. I asked for countless changes, went back and forth with the same bullets few times and he was very patient and positive at all times.
I am very happy with what the end result. I didn’t have any structured one prior working with him and could not thank him enough for what he accomplished. I am looking forward to another revision with him in the upcoming year. This service is a must, one of the best investments you can do for your career.

I had an interview coaching service at five star resume. The session was going well at the beginning, but later the coach started to appear quite impatient until the last minute of session. I didn’t feel he is sincere coaching you, rather, his attitudes made you feel he just wanted to finish as soon as possible. After the session, he promised to send me back the note and feedback he took during out session, but more than 48 hours I didn’t hear back from him until I asked John (the founder) to ask him for the documents. After the second email sent to John, this coach sent me back the feedback with very short feedback. Overall, I am very dissatisfied with their service and attitudes. I don’t know other services there, but at least please do not use their interview coaching service. It just wasted your money.

–Social Media… SO important these days!!! Never realized how key this was and I am so glad I took this service because I have received so much unexpected traffic & interest…
…I have a finance & banking background and since my start with Five Star three days ago, truthfully I haven’t even applied for jobs yet and I have received over half a dozen calls for interviews.
This is a small company so do not expect instantaneous results 24/​7, but even given this fact, Five Star has an amazing turn around time and will truly work with you to leave you satisfied — these guys must never sleep. For the past month I have dealt with three other career counseling/​resume writing companies and had horrible experiences will all of them, despite hours of research of each company prior to hiring them. These companies, though staffed with clearly talented individuals, missed deadlines after deadlines and did tremendously sloppy work. One «company» was just a guy who was great at selling on the phone. John did not try to «sell» like the many companies I had spoken to and even offered complimentary and solid advice before I even decided on starting services.
CONCLUSION:
In case you are wondering, no I am not a prior friend nor did I ever hear of this company until this week. Five Star operates with urgency to genuinely help you and John not only has the expertise to help, but has the educational and work background to back it up. You will be disappointed if you go elsewhere.

I needed to update my resume since the first time I used five star resume so i went back to them and once again John and his team captured and showcased my experience and skills beautifully! I’m very happy with the end results! John and his team kept in touch and gave my resume the attention it needed without making me feel I was just another customer. They don’t rush the process so give them and yourself time. I’ve referred a couple of friends and coworkers who also used this service. And I’ll continue to do so!

I had a very enjoyable experience working with John. I chose the Professional Resume package, and here is my experience, step by step (with extra details to show how the timeline went for me):
Day 1, Thurs — I reached out via email to inquire about the how the whole process works on a Thurs morn.
Day 1, Thurs — 2 hours later, I get a response detailing each step in the process.
Day 1, Thurs — It sounded good so I submitted payment as well as sent the latest draft of my resume.
Day 3, Sat — I get a phone call from Amanda to discuss lining up the 1 hour session. I chose the in-​person meeting instead of the phone call. Wanting to specifically meet with John based on other Unilocal reviews I read, she told me someone would get back to me with his availability.
Day 5, Mon — John emails me to ask if I can meet Thurs.
Day 8, Thurs — We meet in person — the meeting had sort of a casual interview vibe, and being that I was going to be hitting the job market, thought it would be a good start to review my background in person to get my mind in that head space — we reviewed my career progression and resume in detail, with John taking lots of notes along the way.
Day 8, Thurs — After the meeting, John emails me a few follow up questions as well as requests a few job postings that I would be interested in. I liked that as he was being thorough, really wanting to get it right. I responded a few hours later.
Day 14, Wed — John sends me my first draft (typical turnaround is 5 business days so that was fine).
Day 19, Mon — After reviewing for several days, I responded with a few revision suggestions.
Day 21, Wed — John sent it back, incorporating my suggestions. I then made a couple other tweaks on my own after receiving the new draft, but I was good with where John left it. It was in Word so that made it very easy.
Overall, I am very pleased with John’s work. Note that the process is not for the lazy, and you definitely need to take an active role if you want the best result. If you do, you should get what you pay for and then some. Ultimately, I am very happy because his resume did help me get my foot in the door at a company I just got hired at. Thanks John

I purchased the resume package a little over 2 weeks ago. I was called back the end of the same day and was set up with a phone conversation with Anthony the following day, who spent an hour with me on the phone. He got my first draft resume to me in 6 days and then a second draft 6 days later — That to me is a totally acceptable time frame although a slightly faster turnaround on the second revision would not have hurt. They do have a rush service available for people who need it, but this was totally cool. It took us another 2 days to finalize everything but Anthony was right there making the corrections immediately so it’s now done and ready to go! A huge burden was lifted off my shoulders, and I now have a resume that is specific, focused, and to the point. I thank Anthony for answering the questions I had, and appreciated the word and PDF file he sent me each time we made a revision. I would definitely recommend this service!

This is a response to John’s comment. The fist call was scheduled during Easter Sunday at 3:00pm. I missed the call because I was at church and did not here my phone. The second call was scheduled at 12:00 pm on a Tuesday of which I was available. I spoke to the writer that day for fifteen minutes. To clarify your inaccuracies my communication was via e-​mail and twice by phone. The other two incidents were calls scheduled to discuss my requested changes. I missed the call due to having an interview, and the other I missed due to participating in an event the day of the call. I apologized to the writer and informed him why I missed those calls. Last my communication was not erratic or impulsive. I sent information when requested. In addition, any additional emails I sent were a resume I revised and jobs I wanted to submit my resume for consideration. I had a tight deadline, of which I informed your writer before reaching out to you. In my previous review, I did state that I sent an email that I would revise the resume myself. You did not respond to that email. I sent the email after realizing I wasted my money using this service. I did not think you would do a better job, than your employee. Please do not assassinate someone’s character, if they are expressing their experience with your company.

They really do live up to their name! The contacted me within hours of purchase, (and that was a Saturday), and set up a phone meeting with Anthony. Was on the phone with him almost an hour answering questions so he could get a detailed impression of my needs. They were fast, professional and amazing resume writers. Will be recommending them to everyone.

After discussing the type of work I was pursuing, John came to the session prepared with both sound general advice and specific questions someone on my career path might expect. John is an experienced interviewer who genuinely cares about giving you the tools to successfully interview for the next job. I highly recommend this service for both entry-​level and mid-​career interview prep.

Working with John was THE best decision I ever made for my career. I had been applying for jobs and interviewing for a year after finishing my Masters program and was having a hard time landing a job. After getting feedback that my resume and cover letter did not reflect who I was in person, I decided to take the plunge and purchase the full package (resume, cover letter, and LinkEdIn profile). I reasoned that by covering all of my bases, I would learn to sell myself better in interviews. John was incredibly responsive and he had a quick turnaround. Many resume services simply take your resume and hand it back with the grammar fixes, but John actually spends over an hour talking on the phone to better understand who you are as a professional and what you want our of your career.

If you are thinking of purchasing any of the packages, DO IT. Many resume services are incredibly expensive for very little services offered. The small investment you will pay for working with John will be worth it! You may not land your dream job as quickly as I did, but you will be able to have a stronger edge in this very hard job market and gain insights from a very seasoned HR professional. Even though John has a completely different background from my field (I work in the arts) his insights were spot on and he did his homework on the organization and job I was interviewing for. I felt 100% prepared going in because John gave me the confidence and tools to nail my interview.

I purchased a cover letter and resume package after reading all the reviews. There were some issues with my intiial phone consultation, and John agreed to also do my Linkedin profile to make up for it. The whole process was very quick and I sent the resume back only once for some minor revisions. I was very skeptical about the revisions that were made to both my resume and cover letter. While the layout of my resume definitley was what I was looking to acheive, I wasn’t sure it would get the much needed attention I was looking for. The results however, quickly made me rethink this. The response I started to receieve from hiring managers for jobs I applied to is more than double what I was getting with my former resume. I even got a call back from the exact same position I tried applying for over a year ago and at that time even tried to reach out to the poster on LinkedIn with no success. I am glad I trusted their professional advice instead of my instincts in this regard.
In hindsight, I think I would have only purchased the resume. There was nothing wrong with the cover letter I just think it’s less important when applying to most jobs these days and I think I could have crafted a decent enough CL on my own.

John took my resume, which had a strong and diverse skillset, yet not much primary focus or a clear direction, and turned it into an amazing «one sheet», and something that I have great confidence in showing people, and can be proud of. I was first very skeptical to pay for a resume service as I had never done this before, but this was the best money I ever spent. John started of by speaking with me for about 30 minutes to get a sense of what I currently do and the sort of position I was looking to move into. He helped bring out the skills and experience that was most relevant for my target position, and completely re-​did my entire resume giving it a clean modern look.
