I can’t recommend Fauna Veterinary Service highly enough!
I have four exotic pets and Dr. Marc Valitutto and his associates Daniel and Serena provide the kind of excellent care it is hard to find at any price, anywhere, and yet they are very affordable and unusually sensitive to the high cost of vet care — especially for exotic animals.
By making house calls Dr. V reduces the stress on both animals and their owners — particularly in a place like NYC where getting to a vet can be an ordeal. Especially if you have multiple pets.
It also allows him to see the surroundings in which the pet (s) lives, which can be invaluable in the diagnoses and treatment of many conditions. He and Daniel are highly knowledgeable in both the medical AND behavioral concerns which can affect exotic pets and which can sometimes only be determined through seeing their everyday environment.
Dr. V and his staff are exceptionally skilled, experienced and compassionate and never fail to go above and beyond in giving their ‘patients’ and the humans who love them the benefit of their time and expertise. They explain things clearly and include the pet owner in decisions about treatment with a mind to issues like cost and stress to the animal. They are totally responsible and never make you feel like they are suggesting a treatment just to rack up the fees.

I cannot say enough about the wonderful care my bird received form Dr. Marc. He treated her both skillfully and empathetically, and he had an extremely gentle «cageside» manner. Though his primary job that day was to treat my sick bird, he clearly was very conscious of the fact that there was a person involved too; he readily shared his own experiences with me and helped me to feel comfortable and confident about the decisions I made for my bird’s care.
I initially contacted Dr. Marc because the vet we had gone to for the past 12 years was not available that day; I was so impressed with the care we received from him that we will not be returning to the old vet. In addition to the excellent treatment we received, it made a huge difference to not have to take an already sick and stressed bird out of the house… though I would travel anywhere in the city for this level of service!
