I went to see a friend of mine named Arlene Gottfried give a talk about a book of hers with photos she took of the Lower East Side in the 70s and 80s; the pictures are fairly shocking, especially if you contrast them with what the neighborhood looks like nowadays. To tell you the truth, I miss the old ‘hood.
This is a very cool, laid-​back gallery space; it’s a non-​profit space operated by the Esopus Foundation. (I have no idea how to pronounce it.)
