Jon (DJ Gatsby) DJ’ed our wedding and did an AMAZING job. We were super particular about the music that was going to be played, and he completely got the vibe we were going for. I can’t count how many people came up to me during the wedding and said «I can’t believe your DJ is playing this song, it’s amazing!» People were on the dance floor all night, and every song he played was awesome. He did a fantastic job of incorporating all the music we wanted and also playing music that both younger and older people would enjoy. Jon also MC’d the wedding beautifully. There was no «cheesy wedding DJ» vibe at all. He made sure that everything ran smoothly without him having to be on the microphone a lot.
Working with Jon was a pleasure. He was incredibly professional, responsive, organized and is just a very nice person. Before our wedding, he gave us a very detailed sheet with tons of music genres and songs, and asked us to mark it up, so he could get an idea about what music styles we liked. We then had some very lengthy calls to go over the music list, so he could make sure he knew exactly what we liked (and didn’t). Jon definitely paid attention and the wedding was filled with some of our most favorite songs – even one’s that I had forgotten how much I loved!
The music was one of the things I was the most nervous about for the wedding – as it can make or break a party. Jon totally made the party! I cannot say enough complimentary things about him!

Jon was the DJ at our wedding in April. He was great! Very accommodating, even when we had last minute changes. He went to the wedding venue the day before to see the layout and to ensure that everything ran smoothly and perfectly for our big day. We definitely recommend him for any event!

I cannot stress enough how absolutely AMAZING Jon was with our entire wedding experience. Not only was he truly as professional as the come, but made the our NYE 2014 wedding reception the party of the year. He has an incredible music library and then added anything we wanted on top of that for a completely personalized night of music. We had a 20×30 dance floor that was packed and even over flowing all night long because of Jon’s perfect song selection. He also live mixes and played several mash-​ups that really made the night. His booth takes up almost no space and has an impeccable sound. In the days following the wedding all our guests raved about our awesome DJ! He went above and beyond and I would re-​book him in a second for future events. Would give him 10 stars if it were possible!

We hired Jon (DJ Gatsby) as our DJ for a wedding in NYC in March 2014. From the moment we met Jon, we knew he would be the right fit for us. He completely understood our taste in music and clearly conveyed to us his vision for how the night would play out.
Jon provided us with a comprehensive list of genres and songs for us to review, which was very helpful to get us focused on what we wanted to hear on our wedding day. After providing our feedback on the list, we didn’t know exactly how it would play out on the wedding day, but Jon met all of our expectations and more. We were so happy with all of the music and the flow of the night as Jon balanced the music we wanted to hear with crowd pleasers. We received many compliments from our guests on the DJ/​music.

DJ Gatsby (aka Jon Simon) is an absolute EXPERT at his craft!
We hired Jon to be the DJ for our NYC wedding, and he was great. Here are some thoughts and takeaways:
— Jon knows his music. He jumped on board with our plans very early in the planning process, and wanted to make sure he executed exactly as we had imagined. Long before we had even thought about the details, Jon was prepping and making sure he would have everything ready!
— Pinning my now-​husband down with music requests was incredibly difficult (my husband’s fault, not Jon’s!). After many email exchanges where my husband didn’t really give much detail about the songs he did and didn’t want, Jon eventually got through to him another way — out to dinner! We went to dinner, Jon brought a notebook, and as he asked questions and got my husband to ramble on about what he liked and didn’t like, Jon wrote it all down and made sure he knew exactly what we wanted. This was especially important since we didn’t have a dance floor. It was more of a backyard-​BBQ wedding, so he needed to know how much dance-​music we wanted and what other kinds of music we wanted to play throughout the day.
— The music and vibe that Jon put together for the day was 100% perfect. We had guests coming up to us telling us how much they loved the music — it was a perfect mix of popular songs and unique songs that had a good-​vibe feeling.
— On top of everything else, Jon CARES. He concerned himself with all the details very early on, and went out of his way to make sure that we would have the best sound and music possible while staying aware and worrying about not blowing our budget. And on the day-​of, when the weather turned sour and the A/​V guys started packing up the speakers, Jon made sure he still had one available and stayed up-​and-​running with his equipment for one of the ceremonial dances we still had left to play — he went out of his way to make sure we were happy and everything went as planned.

He’s got great taste, an excellent ear for fulfilling your requests, and an incredible attitude. He loves what he does, and that’s imminently clear when you work with him. We love you, Jon!

Jon (DJ Gatsby) was fantastic to work with for our wedding in NYC at City Winery. I (bride) work in the event planning industry and professionalism is very important to me. Jon was the most organized and collaborative of the bunch. (No offense to our venue, our decorator and our photographer…)
Jon really took the time to understand our tastes, the atmosphere we wanted to create, and the flow of events. We never felt obligated to spell out every song he should and should not play. We gave him genres we liked and the vibe we wanted to create at different points in the wedding, and he just ran with it. Our cocktail hour was upbeat and modern alternative, with a splash of 90s rock. And our reception was a party that mixed great dance songs, throwbacks to our college years, and some current guilty pleasures.
Our hope for the wedding was that we’d spend most of our time on the dance floor: eat a little, dance, father-​daughter moment, dance, toasts, dance, cake, dance… He kept the energy at the right level all throughout the night. We truly believe that he had a lot to do with just how much fun our guests had — and they had a blast!
If your musical tastes and the atmosphere you want are anything like ours, we can wholeheartedly recommend Jon. If you plan to handpick every single song in your wedding, you’re probably wasting Jon’s talent.

Jonathan did an absolutely fantastic job at our wedding — the music was so fabulous, and my favorite part was seeing guests of all ages rocking it on the dance floor. We got so many compliments from people on the awesome DJ (Sample: A friend of mine who says her husband never dances, told me she was blown away that he was out on the dance floor all night!). In addition to being an amazing DJ, the best part about Jonathan is that he is such a professional – so on top of things, from the beginning to the end, and he really took the time to meet with us and get to know our musical tastes. We couldn’t have been happier with our decision to hire him!

DJ Gatsby (Jon) was professional, consistent, and helpful from the start. And we got a late start. He stepped in to DJ at our wedding for us when a friend of my fiancé’s backed out of the gig, and we only had 3 months left before the date.
DJ Gatsby was very supportive and followed our wishes to play a very specific playlist for the reception. My husband and I are music snobs and we wanted (at all costs) to not have to hear Taylor Swift or Ke$ha on one of the most important days of our life. And we wanted to be able to have the freedom to okay or veto «Mercy» depending on our mood when our wedding guests requested it. DJ Gatsby worked with us to keep the playlist free of music we didn’t like and gave us the flexibility to play stuff that wasn’t on «the list» if the mood struck.
He showed up early, actually early enough to play «All My Loving» on loop 12 times so my dad and I to practice the foxtrot that he was insisting wasn’t that hard. (It was.) He played the music for our processional and cocktail hour perfectly on cue and mood, and kept our dancing-​ready friends and family on the dance floor long after the food was served. In fact, the music was so good, when I fell flat on my back fairly early in the dancing part of the night, most people didn’t notice, because they were having such a good time grooving. Kudos for helping distract the guests from my bridal shame.
But seriously, if you’re looking for someone who’ll work to design music in the spirit of your day (and tastes), DJ Gatsby is a friendly, accommodating professional who can make that happen.

We were lucky to get DJ Gatsby recommended to us by a friend, who works as a wedding planner. He was professional, friendly, accomodating, and talented!
From the day we hired him, he was ahead of the game with planning his part of our special day. He has plenty of experience and it shows. We were doing the planning for our wedding, so his help was much appreciated (and needed). He asked us for all the things he needed and wasn’t too pushy about it.
The whole time, DJ Gatsby was eager to please. On the day of the wedding, that was really important and he helped the smooth flow of the events of the wedding. He doubled as a sort of of master of ceremonies and was able to introduce all the speeches and such. Asking along the way if we needed things moved up or pushed back.
In the end, I couldn’t imagine getting a better DJ for our wedding. oh, he’s got great music too.

I had the pleasure of attending a few events where DJ Gatsby was spinning. I think he intuitively understands each venue, his customer and the crowd that’s attending that event.

I’ve been using DJ Gatsby (aka Jon to those who know him well) for years. He spun my book release party, he spun my wedding, and he will be doing my upcoming 30^th birthday bash in October. The guy is seriously talented when it comes to music… once I have him secured for an event, I know my guests will have a good time. Understanding the many genres of music is an art that takes many years and much passion. Jon has that skill down and I can’t recommend him highly enough.

To be completely honest, I don’t know much about DJing.
I also am not a music buff.
But I do know that when DJ Gatsby plays music, it brings an event to the next level. People begin to listen more, dance more, and ultimately smile more. He can read the crowd, and when it comes to music, he knows them better than they know themselves.
My friends and I have seen DJ Gatsby at a few different bars, and the music has never been the same. It changes based on the bar’s atmosphere, the number of people, the time of day, etc. And even though he takes in environmental factors, his music shapes the environment every bit as much.

Artists always have a certain way to make you drawn to his or her talents without any effort. That’s DJ Gatsby. You just have to listen to him spin and you will know why. I have had a chance to listen to him demo and that’s how I know why he is good.
Music is about style; music is about people; music is also about the mood. DJ Gatsby can easily capture all the elements perfectly to deliver the best sound track for any event.
I have been recommending him to my clients and friends.

DJ Gatsby is one of those rare DJs who, when I listen to him spin, I think to myself «Wow, having an awesome DJ really does make the difference between a good party and a great party.» I’ve not only been to plenty of DJ Gatsby’s parties but I’ve also recommended him to numerous people. Across the board, my friends who have hired him have come back to me raving about how amazing he was.
A common theme that I hear, when I get feedback on DJ Gatsby, is that he’s really good at catering to a diverse crowd. It’s rare to have a large group of people who all have the same tastes in music. I’m going to guess that DJ Gatsby has never spun the same exact mix for any two parties. I’m basing this on that fact that he really personalizes what he’s spinning at all times. He takes time to get to know his clients before the party and, while the party is happening, he’s totally tapped into the energy of the crowd.
Really, I could go on and on. My advice: If you want your party and celebration to be top-​notch in the music department, you can’t do any better than hiring DJ Gatsby. He’s phenomenally good at what he does and, on top of that, he’s just a stellar person to know.

I can’t wait for the day that I can hire DJ Gatsby to DJ at my event! I think that DJing is a lot harder than people think… and I’ve always wondered how there are such terrible DJ’s and then such great ones. It turns out, like most professions, if you’re passionate about what you do… then if will show in your work. And DJ Gatsby is very passionate about what he does. I love hearing him talk about how he chooses songs that match the time of day he’s DJing, what the weather is like, what kind of a mood he thinks the crowd is in. He watches the crowd and feels the vibe. Then he plays music that enhances the feeling and excitement in the room. He sets the tone. And it’s all so very beautiful. Another thing that set’s DJ Gatsby apart is his wide range of music in his arsenal, that he knows extremely well. I’m always impressed when I hear him DJ!
