There was little to no talking between me and the woman, but she knew what I wanted. It’s not you’re extravagant hair salon, but all I needed was a trim. I doubt you’ll find any place cheaper, but be ready to either speak Chinese, use a lot of hand gestures, or take whatever she gives you.

I get buzz cuts. I understand that a four dollar haircut(yes, the haircuts here are four dollars. five if you tip 20% lol) but they definitely rush through it and didn’t fade the sides well enough so I had to get it redone elsewhere. I support local businesses, hence the three stars, but I wouldn’t go there unless it was for a touch up or for a haircut that doesn’t require much fading. It would be perfect for getting an all-around 2 or 3

Cheaper AND better. NYC Chinatown, you’ve defeated SF’s Chinatown. When my boyfriend and I discovered Zhen Mei Hair Salon in San Francisco, we thought their $ 5 haircut for men couldn’t be beat. Lo and behold, as we browse for cheap cuts in NYC, we come across DaZhong offering a mere $ 4 for a men’s haircut. It’s cheaper than a platter from Halal Guys! Like Zhen Mei, $ 4 doesn’t include a wash, but you can do that at home. The salon has two basement entrances, and the employees peek back and forth to service whomever is next. Per David N’s recommendation, we waited until Tuesday to catch Sean/Shawn, the youngest of the 4 employees. He speaks English, which was really helpful, and is not afraid to voice his thoughts when it comes to the style of your cut. He’s also efficient yet thorough, performing that $ 4 cut in 10 minutes using 4 devices: scissors, trimmers, electric razor, and a manual shaving blade for the back of the neck. My boyfriend and I agree that this is the best haircut he’s gotten so far, and the cheapest too! Sean/Shawn works every day except Monday, and next time we’re in NYC, we’ll make sure to pay a visit.

Won’t go there again. I walked in and another person walked in behind me and I could tell she raced through my haircut so she could get the other walk-in real fast. When I told her to take a little more off the top, she got angry and raced through it. I guess what can you expect for $ 4. Then she asked for a tip, and I could care less for a $ 1 but to make her feel my dis-satisfaction, I didn’t tip her.(I felt bad so I gave her tip to a homeless person on Canal Street.) Anyway, I read all these good reviews but my haircut was the worse I’ve ever got and now I look like Bozo, or Art Garfunkel. Then the man sitting in the chair called me the F word for not tipping. Well that’s what you get for trying to save a buck. Good thing my hair is still long enough to get re-cut. If there was a –5 star, I would give that rating.

This place is great if you want a cheap quick haircut. For men’s cut its only $ 4.00. I go to Shawn/Sean who is the young guy who works everyday except Monday. He speaks English perfectly and does a fade pretty well. I go every two weeks for a fade and he remembers how I like it cut and is very friendly and nice. I started to trust him and let him cut the top as well every now and then. Worth the trip and he is my go to guy!

I called at 7:30 to find out whether they were open. They seemed to know the word haircut, but I could not figure out whether they still took appointments. I took my chances and walked over. I asked the only person there whether I could get a haircut after I got there 10 minutes to closing. He said no while pointing for me to sit at the waiting area. I gave myself the benefit of the doubt and sat down. I waited about 10 minutes for him to finish washing another person’s hair. He called me over to the chair. I told him regular men’s haircut and he said«not too short?». I said yeah. My haircut ended up being great. I payed him a %100 tip. He did a great job. He kept on checking to see if there was any room for improvement — after he blowdried my hair, he went and started meticulously chopping ever so small bits of my hair just till he thought it was a perfect gentlemen cut.

You got four bucks and wanna test your luck? Come here for a haircut if you got four bucks and don’t give a f*** I actually got my hair did here and they did a pretty decent job. I have had my hair cut twice here and the first time it was cut pretty short, but hey it grows back. With the money saved, I’ll just save it for some noodles or pork buns from across the street. Yes, communication is an issue, but the barber understood me pretty well when I said #2 on the side and take some off the top.

$ 4 for a good and quick hair cut that keeps me happy for a month is definitely something I’m happy with. Great location right in heart of chinatown and doesn’t really get any cheaper than this. Even in Flushing cheapest I’ve found was $ 6. But yeah doesn’t sound like they speak English so definitely something to be aware of. I been here twice now and never had to wait, the guy even remembered me from a month ago which I found very surprising. I was in and out of the place within 15 minutes each time too. Very quick and efficient. Definitely will be coming back regularly until my experience changes somehow in the future.

Good place to get a fast and cheap haircut. I don’t think I’ve ever waited longer than about 5 mins to get a haircut. The barbers don’t speak English and I don’t speak Chinese so I have to use sign language to tell the barber how I want my haircut. The haircut is also very fast. I’m in and out of here in about 15 mins or so. My hair is relatively simple to cut and I get a pretty standard haircut. That said, the barbers here do a pretty good job. $ 4 for the cut and I tip $ 2.

Don’t come here with the expectation of communication — I guess my bad but I showed a picture(relatively easy cut) and it was nowhere close. More like he had something in mind already and just went for it.

Think of DaZhong barber shop as a haircutting factory that’s ran like a Chinese hole in the wall restaurant. You go downstairs and sit your ass in a seat and somebody will appear to start cutting your hair almost immediately. Hope you can speak Chinese because you gonna have a tough time if you can’t, but $ 4 for a male cut without hair wash, thats a damn good deal. I just try and tell them what I want the best I can or maybe bring a picture or something. Don’t be expecting salon quality work, but it’s perfect for a quick chop. The cleanliness of the place definitely leaves something to be desired, there’s like still people’s hairs in combs and definitely no sanitizing solution that I’ve found.

So cheap for a haircut! Only $ 4 for a male cut, $ 7 with a wash. The service was quick and efficient, and my barber knew exactly what I wanted without me asking(she probably saw that as an ABC I would be fine with the standard ABC cut of shaving the back and sides and leaving a layer on top). The wash was also comfortable and fast, so that I wouldn’t have to go out with hair pieces all over my head on a hot summer’s day. The place is a little hard to find as it’s downstairs in a basement. There is also a barber shop in another basement right next to it, so make sure you go to the right one! Finally, some of the reviews here gave me the idea that Cantonese would be helpful here, but that wasn’t my experience; all the barbers down here were conversing in Mandarin! Maybe they just prefer Mandarin or the Canto guys were out. In any case, they can at least understand simple Canto if you can’t speak Mandarin.

They cut hair so fast and do an excellent job. The barber started cutting my [white] boyfriend’s hair without even asking us what to do. When the barber got to the top of the head, I chimed in and said not to cut it too short. He already knew that my boyfriend’s hair type would stick up if cut too short, so he said he was only going to thin it. One of his favorite barbers and it only cost $ 5 + tip! Don’t be put off with the small amount of reviews. This place just happens to have a non-yelping clientele(older, non-english speaking). Overall this place is very worth the cost. They do girls too so anyone can go experience the cheap goodness.
