Clayton Patterson and his wife Elsa Rensaa came to this country from Alberta, Canada to pursue art and have been in this building since 1983 – in which time they’ve seen their neighborhood completely change.(This is documented in the film Captured , an excellent film about Clayton and Elsa’s life and work.) This building, incidentally, was originally a carriage house. In their gallery they showcase work that matters to them, and that might not otherwise get the audience it deserves. Artists like ManWoman , LAII , and controversial photographer Charles Gatewood have been featured in this space where Clayton is king.
