The 2 stars are only because, after all the headaches were said and done, I actually got a decent amount of pictures that I could work with. I will say that he did do the same shot until you got something that you liked and could work with before he moved on. That’s pretty much it.
As for the details… I was actually really excited to work with him as I saw that there were ALL positive reviews on this site. Plus his work seemed pretty good on his website also. So when I actually started to experience the not too great customer service, I was certainly disappointed and felt the need to write an accurate description of his services from my experience, so that someone does not mistakenly think as I did.
I just booked Mr Joseph through groupon and called to set up an appointment. I never got him directly on the first attempt, but he would return my call. When he returned my call initially, he said that he no longer participates in the groupon advertisement and that I should call and let them know. First of all, that’s not my job to call for your business. I’m a consumer that wants an advertised service. whether or not it should still be up is not my concern. So, after saying that this was really not good customer service, he said that if I called groupon to ask for a refund, he would still do a shoot for me at the same cost. I agreed and appreciated the effort on his part.
Next headache, there were no details on his groupon page for hair or makeup prices as there are for other businesses. Every question I asked incurred an additional cost which was never advertised or explained in our conversation. There was really no direction given at all, very open ended. Because I had some time constraints, and didn’t have time to research and find someone else at this point, I continued with the appointment as scheduled.
He had me send some pinterest pictures of photos that I liked, and completely copied those poses at the shoot… detail for detail. There was no creativity or direction given at all. I’m not a model, just a regular person who wanted nice pictures. I felt totally lost. Then when I asked how many outfits I should have, as this was only a one hour shoot, he said how ever many I wanted… then proceeded to rush me later on saying that we were running out of time and his staff had to leave. also said that I could pay for another hour or else I cant do all my outfits and I need to pay the staff so they could leave (before the shoot was done, so they could go to their next appointment as we were running late). Because he is the professional, I would expect him to direct me that in his experience only 2 or 3 outfits can be photographed in this time frame so that I can pick my favorite ones. NOT THE CASE.
After everything was done, we went through the pics and I chose which ones I liked. Surprisingly, there were many that I liked considering the circumstances. Then he said, «you have a groupon, right?» I said that i DID BEFORE, but that he had told me that he’s not on groupon anymore. Then he says an, «oh yeah, that’s right» like that was basically a made up story he told me just to get cash instead. I didn’t have cash so he said I could use a card and pay the same price plus the required card taxes when he sends an invoice later in the day. When I get the invoice, he increases the price by $ 2.00. not the same price as groupon. you cant have one price listed and charge another, it’s principle. I dont care if it’s one dollar or 50 dollars, as a business you honor your advertisement and dont mislead people. When I emailed him to say that it wasn’t the same groupon price as discussed, he took off ONE CENT!!! At this point I was so disgusted and just wanted to be done with him after pulling such a rude and blatantly sarcastic maneuver that I paid the invoice and expressed my concerns… further adding that «IRONICALLY» he still has a groupon posted even though he «doesn’t participate anymore,» and that it’s a NEW advertisement which is charging $ 5.00 less for the same deal. So then I also politely ask for him not to use any of my photos in his advertisements or portfolios as this is something I am NOT giving permission for. I never even got an ACKNOWLEDGEMENT confirming that I asked for this and that my pics would not be used.
After all that, he had the nerve to hand me a business card for future services… which went straight into the garbage. I wouldn’t recommend my friends or family EVER use his services. I didn’t feel like I was a valued customer at all, never during the course of my experience with him. Maybe it was because I started with groupon, but as a professional, if you don’t want groupon customers, then you shouldn’t advertise your services on that platform. VERY UNPROFESSIONAL. BEWARE, especially if you plan on using groupon. PS his ad is still up on groupon and now priced even lower at $ 29.75. So muchfor not participating. I guess a ghost is defrauding him.

Bret is an extraordinarily talented and thoughtful photographer. The camera always makes me nervous and he was very patient with me. I feel lucky to have had an opportunity to work with him. Thank you Bret!

Bret Josephs did an outstanding job video-​recording my wedding ceremony! He’s so attentive to detail and even made sure he had great photographs for our DVD case… he’s prompt (actually, early so he can scope out a place and figure out what needs to be done), and all his shots were just beautiful, so touching. The editing was brilliant; I cried at some parts and laughed, too, at the right moments. Completely unobtrusive and artistic. I highly recommend Bret, who’s also a sweet and pleasant guy.

Great photographer, especially for someone whose never done a shoot before. He makes you feel comfortable and helps you out, extremely well to work with, outgoing and versatile, I would strongly suggest him.
