Baby Basics NYC

BabyBasic NYC supports struggling parents. I have been in the program for about three years now. Everyone is so friendly and helpful. Brenda and her volunteers are caring people who give up their Saturdays to help us. We learn everything from CPR, Nutrition, Dental Care and our kids get to interact with other kids. It is a place where moms or dads can come in and speak to other parents about similar issues they have with their child. We share our stories and our advice. From this program I have learned a lot and have made great friendships.

I was a part of this program while out on maternity leave and struggling to make ends meet. The program is basically to help families by providing them with pampers and parenting education, however the founder (Brenda Grassey) is one of the most condescending people you could ever encounter. Instead of offering the service out of genuine altruism she reminds each participant CONSTANTLY of how poor they are and how she is saving them from certain peril (she even drew a «you are this broke and i am helping you this much» chart for us).
You rarely see the same faces twice because, people show up once, get a taste of what the program is really about and then never return. The only parents that stick with the program are those who dont speak english and dont know that they are being berated.
The volunteers are nice and of course its good to get anything for free but being a part of Baby Basics is simply not worth the aggravation.
