12th Street Dermatology

I had a very good experience here. Found it through ZocDoc. Check in was a breeze, you can do most of the forms online and what they give you to do in the office is a page or so. The entrance is on 88 University Place, as opposed to 214 East 12^th Street, so be aware of that. Front office staff was very pleasant. The wait time was next to nothing. Wait time between seeing the Medical Assistant and the Doctor was negligible as well. Skin screening was the most thorough I have had. Doctor was professional and polite. I’ve been to a few other Dermatologists in New York City and the experiences there were not so great. I’ll be coming back to 12^th Street Dermatology.

Because my regular doctor at Spring Street Dermatology was booked and I needed a cortisone shot I made an 830 am appt so I could get the shot and make it to work by 9.
I get there at 830 to find out that my appt wasn’t in the system. I showed her proof of the zoc doc confirmation on my phone. Turns out the person who was supposed to give me the shot (who is not even a doctor but an assistant) wasn’t there yet. So she tells me she’s coming in and to wait.
Then 2 minutes later I clearly hear her asking someone else is Susan coming in? So WTF would you tell me to wait for Susan when you don’t even know if she’s coming? And why wouldn’t you call someone or ask to find out before telling me to wait.
So I go up to her and say can’t anyone give me the shot? She was like «oh you can see anyone»? YES it’s a cortisone shot!
I reminded her again that I had to leave to go to work so it would have to be in the next 5 min.
She looked at me like I was nuts. «Oh no it won’t be in the next 5 min. I still have to put your info into the system.»
So I made an appt on Zoc Doc for 830am, filled out all of my info, only to find out the PA wasn’t there, my info wasn’t in the system and the receptionist can’t seem to understand I have to go to work though I said it 3x.
Let’s keep in mind a shot takes approx 1 second to administer.
It was a complete waste of time AND the receptionist had bad skin!!! Not the best advertisement guys.

I highly recommend 12^th Street derm. I started coming here about 3yrs ago to see Debbie the aesthetician, based on a friend’s recommendation. Debbie is great! I only recently started seeing the dermatologists because I needed to have a mole removed. I was treated by both Nick & Dr. Dacko and they were incredible about explaining the processes clearly to me, were very knowledgable, and made me feel comfortable. The nurses and front desk staff have always been friendly & helpful too. I’m very happy with the treatments & services I received here– this place is a gem!

I’ve been coming here for a few years now and am always pleased with my treatment. I’ve had some growths that needed to be removed, and Nick (who I believe works under Doctor Dacko) is always very patient and kind, no matter how tiny the new thing on my skin is. He was even super cool with my taking a phone call during our appointment once (please don’t judge me– it was another doctor calling with test results!).
They’ve helped me keep my eczema under control, and they’re always handing out samples of stuff like Aquaphor and Neutrogena soap and other goodies.

I went here for advice on a rash. Diagnosis seemed fine. They prescribed a couple of things which i probably didn’t need. Duane Reade screwed up the prescribed fungicide so i didn’t end up getting it, but the $ 2.xx off-​the-​shelf fungicide i bought instead worked.
Two major complaints, they kept me waiting for about half an hour which i more than i like to wait for anything — funny how we just accept this at doctors offices. Also was seen by an assistant doctor, for which apparently they charge the saw as a real doctor: $ 225. Hmm, does he have same experience level? Do you pay him the same amt? Seems there should be a price differential.
Incidentally, would like to ask all Unilocaler: when you review a doctor, mention how much they charged you. Many people pay at least a portion of the cost that insurance doesn’t cover, and if people are aware of prices and start basing decisions on them, then doctors will have to compete based on them, something they rarely do in the hidden just let the insurance handle world of today.
