Twist is one of the most inviting and well-​organized yarn boutiques I’ve had the pleasure of ever stepping foot inside. The staff is so welcoming and extremely helpful — Cathy and her fellow knitters & crocheters are super eager to help you and answer all 300 of your questions, most of which they’ve probably had to answer countless times before. Not once, though, did I feel embarrassed or hesitant to ask for help as a beginner crocheter… I’m extremely appreciative of their above & beyond customer service!
I was lucky to have discovered my newfound love for crocheting, only days before the Yarn Crawl in LA! I busted my butt «crawling» around to 6 beautiful yarn shops (side note: I stupidly forgot to hand in my sheet so all of that time spent driving through LA traffic, avidly crawling and stamp collecting was sadly uncredited for =’(boo me), but in the end, I still feel like every minute I spent for the 2016 yarn crawl was aaabsolutely worth it.
They gave me a couple free patterns and I snagged some sale yarn for super cheat — half priced everything on the sale rack; can’t beat that!
I will definitely be back to take some classes; it’s a great offer for $ 20 a class and they don’t kick you out after a 2hr class, Cathy actually encourages you to stay for the whole 4 hrs. She and her friend/​coworker (ahh I wish I remembered her name I feel terrible to have forgotten she’s was a sweetheart!) are more than willing to help you with your personal projects as well if you’re stumped on a confusing section. Knitting and Crocheting classes are on different days. I’m not definite on the times these classes are held but they’re usually CLOSED Monday and Tuesday.

The store is located in the beautiful neighborhood of Manhattan Beach, too. Everything about this place is just magnificent… At 25 years old, I kinda want to just quit my career and crochet my days away in bliss.

I died and went to yarn heaven! Super helpful staff and a huge selection of the good stuff. The layout of the store is wonderful you can find everything quite easy. It’s a dangerous place to be in when your yarn stash is dangerously overloaded already but I suggest you go anyway love love love this place

A must stop if you are in the LA area. Being a mother it’s always hard to find a place that is a somewhat kid friendly shop. Our family travels a lot and my son is usually in tote when I visit a yarn store when we travel. The owner was so sweet with my son, she found him some things to color with, showed us the restroom and got us set up so I could shop. She also showed me her hand dyed yarns and her little dye area in the back. Her assistant helped me wind up my yarn and off I go to knit some socks… Such a welcoming shop and so beautiful! Pure eye candy!!! Thank you!!!

I can’t rave enough about this shop and the staff. The choice of yarn is abundant and the quality is exquisite. There is something for everyone at all price points. I have been able to purchase gorgeous yarn at a fraction of the cost that I have spent at other stores. This is truly one of my all time favorite shops.

Every time I come here, I find myself circling around the store several times because I can never decide which yarns to buy. They have a beautiful assortment of colors and fibers that it is hard not to find one you’ll fall in love with. Find yarns made of cotton, wool, silk, acrylic, camel and much more!
They even sell their own brand of yarn dyed in-​house which is pretty awesome. Although I am a fan of the big brand stores, you will not find yarns this luxurious at Michaels or Joanns. If you are going to spend all that time knitting something for yourself or a loved one, you might as well get something you KNOW will feel just as great as it looks.
The staff is very knowledgeable and extremely helpful as well. If you purchase your yarn in store, they even let you wind your own yarn to take home with you!

This is a very nice yarn shop. They have a good variety of yarns. They are also quite helpful and friendly staff. I stopped by last week when I was in town and probably will again this week.

I first went to Twist with friends on the LA Yarn Crawl a couple of years ago. We visited 5 stores that day, and Twist was the best by far. Their hand-​dyed yarns are incredible — the colors are so well picked. I no longer go on the Yarn Crawls (sorry other stores). I just go to Twist and spend all my money there. If you see a yarn you like — buy it! Their selection of Twist yarns changes from time to time, so don’t hesitate. Also, they have the softest cotton yarn I’ve ever found — it makes lovely baby blankets. Well worth the trip!

I am a new knitter, and needed help in fixing a dropped stitch. I went into Twist today based on Unilocal reviews and Twist delivered just as Unilocal promised they would. Beautiful store, very peaceful, excellent yarn selection and prices. The two women working there were SO helpful and very kind. I never felt out of place, even though I am just starting to learn the language of knitting.
Cathy gave me a tour of the store, explaining their yarns as well as classes that might suit me. I felt so welcomed — and so inspired by her yarn selection — that I am excited to sign up for classes, particularly the Oops! Bootcamp where I can learn more about how to fix my own knitting mistakes.

This store had a beautiful selection of yarn and some of the people were nice. However the owner appeared very paranoid and looked at me like I was going to steal something — creepy. I tried to carry around a skein I was thinking about and she took it from me saying something like «we’ll just put this back until you decide.»
As pretty as it was, no thanks.

A beautiful shop full of lovely yarn and thoughtfully curated knitting tools and accessories. The yarns tend toward the artisanal, hand-​dyed, quirky end of the spectrum. There’s a good range of prices — I might not always leave with the skein of my dreams, but a reasonably priced hank of vibrant Malabrigo helps to soften the blow. Cathy dyes her own yarn, too, and I really like her color sense. Twist is my favorite yarn shop in Los Angeles.

Be sure you have lots of time to enjoy the experience! This is, by far, the best knitting shop in the So Bay. Staff are helpful and friendly; they always greet you with a smile. Yarn and tool selection is fabulous! The yarns are natural in exquisite colors. Classes and assistance are also available. You’ll find yourself going back again and again! HAPPY KNITTING!

Recently, I came back to LA to visit friends one of whom was about to have a baby. While on the plane, I finished knitting a hat for their yet to be born daughter but I accidentally left my tapestry needle at home. I came to Twist and Kathy GAVE me a tapestry needle. It was so kind of her.
This is one of the best yarn stores I’ve ever visited for three reasons:
1. Quaintness — The store is not too big but not too small. There’s also a very comfortable couch and coffee table area for people to hang out and knit.
2. Hand dyed yarns galore– It’s different from the average yarn store because the store actually has a decent selection of their own store branded hand dyed yarn. Cathy, the owner either dyes these yarns by herself or designs the dye. These yarns are gorgeous and feel great! Cathy’s very intimately familiar with these yarns and can offer recommendations if you’re looking for something very specific.
3. Workers passionate about yarn and knitting — A lot of the knit items on display are designed by people who work in the shop.
If you’re a yarn lover and you’re in the area, I highly recommend that you stop by. Just being in this store and seeing all the beautiful yarn made me very happy.

I absolutely adore and love this yarn shop. The atmosphere is very warm and inviting which is nice. Their selection of yarn is amazing! I was introduced to Malabrigo at this store and I love it! Twist have some gorgeous hand-​dyed yarn by the owner, Cathy, that must not be overlooked. Beautiful work of art!
Cathy and her staff are wonderful and there is always one staff greeting and acknowledging your presence. I’ve been to quite a few yarn shops and Twist is by far the best when it comes to customer service! Customer service is extremely lacking at most yarn shops and the staff acts as if you’re interrupting them, including their chat sessions. You won’t find that at Twist!
The yarn price is extremely reasonable too. It may be expensive to most for each hank of yarn, but customers must remember to check the yardage and compare. You’re getting way more than the average skein of yarn. Most knitted samples on display at the shop are knitted with only 1 or 2 hanks of yarn and may cost as little as under $ 30. I’ve actually compared cost with yarn purchased at Twist and Michael’s/Joann’s when doing one project I had. The total was about the same and I walked away with better quality yarn from Twist.
Don’t get suckered into the marketing ploy, thinking that you’re saving on yarn when you’re actually not at the chain stores. That 40% coupon will only save you on one skein anyway. You’re better off saving that coupon for other craft projects.

If you live in the area, you’re damn lucky.
If you live an hour away, like me, get in your car.
If you live in another state, find a reason to visit Los Angeles — any reason!
If you live in another country, you better get to the passport office!!!
It is well worth the trip. Truly a knitting destination.

WOW!~ All I can say it the yarns are yummy and the service is outstanding! They don’t have a lot of parking but when I got there for the Yarn Crawl, even though the store was crowded, I was able to park around the corner (not very far away at all)…and I was happy to walk that far. Of course, I found some yummy yarns.

I came in a Saturday afternoon, looking for some double pointed needles size 2. The store is welcoming and very presentable with 2 areas one in the front and the other in the back with tables and chairs for the classes. This store has several yarn selections and most of the yarns are custom hand dyed. The yarn selection is pricey but the yarns are worth the price.
As I was browsing a helpful lady came to ask if I needed help. I immediately asked for assistance as I came in looking for DPN size 2. (The needles are behind the counter) They had what I was looking for in stock and I just couldn’t leave the store with out buying a hank of yarn. They have tons of sock yarn available and I immediately fell in love with hank (colors: pink to dark pink, brown to light green). The combinations, were just heavenly and I made the purchase. Once I purchased the yarn, they help you set up the winder and you get to do your own winding of the yarn into a ball. GREAT!!!
As I was checking out the cashier also recommended another set of DPN and she said they were $ 6dls more than the ones I was purchasing. I was able to open the package and I went with the recommended needles. I will defiantly return, great local business to buy yarn.

I went to visit Twist today Saturday February 9^th, 2013. First impressions: clean, well stocked, well loved, very VERY nice staff. There are no synthetics in sight. Most of the yarns are hand dyed so their colors/​colorways are really unique. It’s a great shop. Not too small, not too big. Samples are placed in different spots. The yarn is so well organized!
Rita is a wonderful, friendly woman who is not pushy at all. The owner was so sweet! She was please to hear we found her via Unilocal.We were told twice to help ourselves to tea. There is a section to the right of the entrance that has a long table. Half of this table has different yarn cakes with needles and a note that says «Please knit!» and information about the yarn. Yarn tasting? Don’t mind if I do!
I walked out without purchasing any yarn (I know, I’m crazy to have done that! but I’m on a budget for Valentines and other stuff ;)) I have one word for this yarn store: Lovely!!! I’ll be back again soon!

Everything everyone says about Cathy being the nicest, most helpful person EVER is true! I had to laugh when I went in and she was great and then I remembered all the comments on Unilocal about how great she is.
They offer one on one classes for people like me who want to learn to crochet. I am really excited about starting because of all the terrific yarn.
As for it being expensive, my feeling is that crafts (sewing, knitting, all that stuff) take so much time that the only reason to make something you could buy is that you want to enjoy working with the materials and equipment and you can make something much cooler and more unique than you could buy. If I’m going to put 20 hours into making a scarf, I want it to look spectacular! And with Twist’s unique selection and really gorgeous yarns and fibers, it WILL look spectacular. Why spend all that time on a project using cheap yarn, resulting in a scarf I could’ve bought at TJ Maxx for $ 7?

Visited new Twist location (formerly Beach Knitting space) on Small Business Saturday. Wow! New location has more Malabrigo, more Habu and more Handmaiden yarns beautifully displayed in a much larger space. I love Malabrigo yarns and like many yarn crafters — prefer to purchase hand dyed yarns at local yarn shops versus online. There are many knit swatches on display to help you make an informed yarn purchase.
Walked into the shop with a specific list of Malabrigo yarns & colors. Twist had every skein on my list. Malabrigo prices at Twist are reasonable and same as listed price on Ravelry website. I also purchased Twist Cotton, a machine washable 100% cotton yarn that comes in many colors. At $ 7.95 for 180 yards Twist Cotton is more economical than Blue Sky Cotton and will be my new go-​to yarn for baby gifts.
Twist is the friendliest yarn shop I have ever visited. The employees are happy to answer questions, make pattern/​yarn suggestions and do special orders. There are two cozy seating areas with a coffee & tea bar for crafters to enjoy.
If you are an old Twist customer who hasn’t seen the larger shop — your dreams have been answered. If you’ve never visited Twist — it is worth the trip. Met a knitter in the store who lived 200 miles away! Lucky for me, Twist is in South Bay.
