Torrance Memorial Physician Network South Bay Family

Been a patient here for 3 years bc i have an HMO and there are very few other options. The wait times on the phone are long, you can have an 8am apt and not get seen until 9:30, the doctors are just ok but the receptionists are downright rude. I have a PPO now and will never come back here! Yay!

Dr. Baars freighting my daughter (and our entire family) beyond belief —
for nothing, other than her lack of judgement
and medical compency.
We have spoken to three other
MDs, who have all said if she had more confidence in her diagnosis, this would have never happened — like dangerous tests for our daughter, my child and family shaken with fear — not to mention the all the cost — even with
excellent insurance.
I thank God my daughter has no health
issues — -and write this review to help some nice family avoid the hell we went through with Dr. Jennifer Baars in Manhattan Beach,
Calif.

Dr. Baars is fantastic. My 14yo daughter and I both see her (which, luckily, isn’t very often), but when we do, we never feel rushed and always feel she really listens. The staff can get a little unfriendly when they’re busy. There have been some phone call mixups that have left me irritated, but it won’t stop us from coming to Dr. Baars.

Dr. Maria Lui was our family’s Go To Doc for a number of years.
Parking: Smaller lot with tight spaces (its MB, all the lots are small), but I was usually able to get a parking spot.
Beside manner: I always liked Dr. Lui and my kids were always very comfortable with her.
Ease of appointments: At first, it was easy. We were some of her first patients in town, but fast forward 8 years later and to get an appointment for an adult physical, I called in October and the first availability she had was February. Seriously. That was the deal breaker. This goes for the telephone, too. I started having to leave more messages and had a harder time getting through to a person. Plus, it would take them a few hours to get back to me.
Office: Typical; Staff up front could be more consistent with their friendliness.
Patient Rooms: Typical, but no privacy. You can hear everything in the room next to you. I hate hearing little ones get their shots; thus, I don’t like the patient rooms.
Overall, its good enough for the kids getting their vaccinations or getting a check-​up (if you can get an appointment in a timely manner).

Was on hold for 15 minutes just to be hung up on. When I called back, waited an additional 10 minutes.
I’ve heard good things about a few of the doctors here but unfortunately, I was not able to schedule an appointment.
FYI: According to their staff, none of their doctors take patients except for one, who is only available on Thursdays.

I like my doctor here, but the support staff is lacking. Instead of me waiting on hold for 20 minutes, just to be hung up on when the phone is finally answered, why not offer a callback service, or an automated system that gives approximate wait times? Making an appointment is frustrating every time.

I have been going here for almost 5 years. Throughout the years I occasionally talk to someone on the phone who is rude. Yet, because I love Dr. Baars so much I try to ignore any negativity. I use to live in Anaheim and I would make the trip to Manhattan Beach. When I talk to her she makes me feel important and doesn’t make me feel stupid even when I do ask a stupid question. I can’t help that when I get some sort of symptoms I rely on google which plants these scary information. She also ask about my personal life, school and family. I really trust her. She never rushes the visit. Plus if I want the nurse to relay her a message she 90% of the time calls me back and also calls me to let me know how my labs went. And when I do need to see her I usually can get seen quick. How I know she is the real deal is if I have any last minute question she remains in the room to answer. Some doctor will stand in the doorway and slowly will exit. Thank you Dr. Baars for being so awesome.

Love Dr. Taylor but it’s impossible to get an appointment because reception leaves you on hold forever. When leaving a message they never return calls. It totally frustrating. The reception area is understaffed so service is awful.

South Bay Family Medical has wonderful doctors but their support staff is horrible. It is virtually impossible to schedule an appointment. Usually, you cannot get anyone to answer the phone. Messages are not returned. Forget using them as your «go to» doctor when you are sick. The one time I did get through, I was told to go the Urgent Care! Unfortunately, I am going to switch to a group that is actually available when you need them.

I like their doctors a lot. However, the office staff and support services are HORRIBLE!!! More often than not you have to leave a message on their voicemail and hope they call you back to even get an appointment. Now that some of the services like EKGs they used to do in their individual offices are now centralized in Torrance it is a nightmare to get an appointment. I am now leaving voicemails in three different voicemail boxes and have yet to get a response. While I like the doctors there the «GROUP» is becoming an shining example of everything bad about what medicine is becoming!!!

LOVE Dr. Baars! She listens, she hears you. She rocks!

Let me put it this way… I live in the Valley… her office is in Manhattan Beach… gas prices are still ass-​raping us. I will continue to make the drive to see this Dr.
I think this is longest I’ve stayed (by choice!) with the same primary health care doctor I love Dr. Baars and this facility! She is super thorough, doesn’t rush you one bit, and really takes the time to answer your questions and make sure you are in good health. I also appreciate that she has a good memory and great sense of humor — I can only imagine how many patients she sees in a day, let a alone a year. Yet I love that she always remembers something about me even though I only see her once a year… unless my asthma flairs up.
