Sur La Table

I hated this class… For making me ridiculously hungry and torturing me with the aroma of sizzling pancetta for an hour before getting to eat anything (AKA the class was amazing, as was the meal we created, as was the smell of fresh pasta mixed with that of simmering sauces).
My friend Courtney and I had THE BEST time and learned some new cooking techniques in the «ravioli making class.» Our instructors were great-​gave very clear instructions, took things step by step and when we still managed to mess up, they didn’t yell at us:) they shared stories, tips and tricks with us throughout the session to keep things interesting and the time flew by! Before we knew it we were indulging in pesto/​butternut squash ravioli and cheese/​pancetta ravioli that were just perfect! We will absolutely be back for more!

I had a great experience at one of their cooking classes tonight! It was so much fun and very organized. Our instructor James was extremely knowledgable and friendly. The other employees helping us out in the kitchen were great too. I would definitely recommend taking one of these classes. Also you get to eat the yummy food you cooked at the end of class!

I can spend hours here. I love Sur La Table, and especially this Manhasset location because the people here are super nice and friendly.
We bought these knives here a year ago and already it became dull (probably because I used it on the wrong surfaces) and the guy I spoke to sharpened them free of charge.
Great selection of kitchen wares at reasonable prices.

Had so much fun here during the Date Night cooking class! We prepared a steak dinner and it was delicious– the chef and staff were super helpful and nice. When you come to a class here you get a great 10% off coupon to use that day in the store (who doesn’t love coupons right?!) The store has a great selection of kitchen and bakeware and cool gadgets as well. Definitely check this place out!

Learning to cook! What a great experience!
Me and my boyfriend took Date Night: Culinary Adventures in Tuscany. It was an overdue very belated birthday gift for me…
Online was where i booked the reservation. $ 69 per person. Not a bad deal. It was for 6:30 on a friday. After shopping at the store i know the parking lot can be tight but on a friday night parking was plenty.
We had Chef Brian guide us through cooking and two other setup/​cleanup crew. We all got to wear nametags, aprons and had a towel we would carry around.
First steps first we wash our hands! All of the ingredients were portioned out in their own bowls and little saucers.
It was a group of 12 people 6 couples.
Our menu consisted of:
Roasted beet and arugula salad with orange
Prosciutto-​wrapped pork medallions filled with olive tapenade
Seared broccolini with lemon, garlic and pine nuts
Pumpkin ginger tiramisu!
The first thing we made was the tiramisu. Because dessert needs to set in this case before we can enjoy it! Everyone was great at taking turns throughtout the process!
Chef Brian was very knowledgable answered questions and helped along the way.
While making tiramisu i learned what vanilla paste was! We got to use this fancy digital mixer and really pretty glass and ceramic baking/​serving dish.
After that went to be set in the refridgerator we started on the salad. Now to speed things up they had already pre-​baked/​the beets. They need to cook for an hour so skipping a waiting step was fine with me! Chef did explain how long, how to prepare the beets for the oven and even some great less hassle baking tips!
Next up chef showed us how he wanted us to cut an orange for the salad and dressing. Next i had the job of peeling and slicing up the beets! Thank goodness they provided gloves bc otherwise it wouldve looked like i killed someone or cut myself! After everything was done we made a delicious refreshing dressing.
We did not have to wait to enjoy it, we got to plate up the salad and enjoy it!
Next we started on making the tapenade! This tapanade had and such wonderful deep aromatic flavors had kalamata olives, basil, garlic, sundried tomatoes and parmesean cheese. Delicious! We got to use this cute little food processor. Once that was complete we learned how to butterfly a pork loin, we spread the tapanade over it, then rolled it and tied it. Tying the meat was not as easy as the butchers make it look. But i managed to successfully accomplish it.
While the pork went into the oven Chef was telling us about his cooking experiences. He also was teaching us about the different cookware we were using. You can tell he knew his material and shared in his opinions.
Next we prepared the broccolini with pine nuts. We learned how to properly apply salt (or any other spice);who knew this whole time i was doing it wrong!
While everything still had to cook we were given special vouchers and had a great time shopping when no one else was in the store! I felt like a kid in a candy store. They just have so many cool gadgets some you wont find anywhere else.
After shopping time was over it was time to enjoy our delicious meal. We came downstairs and the staff works fast tables were set and everything cleaned up.
The food smelled amazing. Chef cut up and portioned out our plates. And we got to dive in. There was even some seconds!
The best thing about this aside from the experience is you get copies of the recipes we made to take home! I cant wait to make what i learned!
I highly recommend this place learning to cook, enjoy cooking, or looking for a fun date/​group night.
Already planning my return!

*** NO MORE FREE KNIFE SHARPENING! (as of Easter ’14)***
This is the #1 reason I purchased all my knives here, or shall I say purchasED.
You can always find them for a better price online but I liked that I can come in and get One knife sharpened for free while I take a look around the store. They have since ended this courtesy.
On a previous experience, I came with a friend and we each had a knife purchased from this store. They charged us for the «2^nd» one because only the «1^st» knife was free, even though we were two people.
Classes here are great but not really «Hands On». At most you get to chop a few things and flip some others but all the cooking is done by an instructor. You go home with a recipe but I feel this is not a real «cooking class».

People in store are always very helpful. I’ve only had one bad experience here where we could not find anyone to help us with knives in am empty store. They could not find the knife «expert» so another lady with no knife knowledge helped us. My friend asked to see a knife but she could not reach it so asked if he could get it himself, he ended up cutting himself on a neighboring knife. That was a bad experience. But nothing like that since then.
Parking Lot is annoying with the Valet taking up so much parking real estate.

This place has figured out how to provide a great shopping experience. The store is beautiful, very appealing visually, and the staff are extremely friendly and helpful. I have never met an employee that did not try to go out of their way to help me. And they know what they are talking about, they will discuss my requirement and try to help come up with the right answer.
They have a great selection of products, I often find items here I cannot find anywhere else. They have mostly high end items, but they also have the basics. Even things like high quality baking chocolates and cocoa are available.
Only ding I give them is the high prices, but I continue to go because I think they earn the premium, and I am willing to pay it (in most cases, but not all) for the enjoyment of the shopping experience and assistance.
I can see what others mean about limited parking, but to be honest I have been many times and haven’t had an issue myself, could be the time of day you go.

This is my local Sur La Table, but unfortunately I can never shop here because the parking situation is absurd, and I really don’t like being told where I can and cannot park, and I don’t like being lectured by a snarky security guard.
Today I tried to go to this location AGAIN and sure enough there were absolutely no spots and I was questioned by the security guard about which store I was going to. It’s really ridiculous. It’s none of his business!
I don’t know what the big deal is, and I feel like there’s a war going on between one side of the shopping complex and the other, and customers really shouldn’t be put in the middle. Can’t we all just get along?!
I know Sur La Table is a fine store, but I like shopping in a store where I can go to and from as I please without being scrutinized. This location is completely uninviting.

It’s a great store don’t get me wrong. But the parking lot is a disaster. More than half of the spots in the parking lot are designated for the other stores which only leaves a handful for Sur La Table. (Every spot was taken yet there were 2 customers in the store!) It was my first time here and I took a gamble and parked in one of the other spots and when I came out and got in my car, a security guard came over and gave me a lecture and said I was lucky I didn’t get towed! Honestly, in order to not have to put up with that BS again, I’ll go to the one in Roosevelt Field Mall.

I love this place. I am an avid foodie, and a gourmet chef (in my mind). So, I come to this place to acquire quality cooking tools/​kitchen accessories. They can be a lil expensive at times, but often offer frequent, and generous sales; at the end of the day its all worth it cuz-​u-​get what you pay for. Right?
Right!

They have a great selection of kitchen tools and such. The staff is super friendly and helpful (despite the ornery group of people that often shop here). I took a class downstairs on knife skills that was not only useful but also fun. If the Barefoot Contessa and Giada are your thing, then you’ll love this store.
The only reason I don’t give them the fifth star is for the parking. Because of the salon (Nubest) next door, you really have to valet your car and often times the whole process can take a while.

I totally love this place! Many times have I come here for a cool culinary gadget (like a poachpod or a garlic peeler) and a cooking lesson (seriously, they give lessons!). There’s even an espresso machine that you can use to brew yourself a nice cappuccino and walk around the store with.
The only reason I give this place 4 instead of 5 stars is the fact that most of the things here are extremely overpriced. Any Marshall’s, TJMaxx or Home Goods in the area has literally all the same items for less than half the price than at Sur La Table. I once bought a cast iron grill here for $ 60 that I saw at TJ Maxx for $ 24.

I’m seriously a kitchen gadget whore! I can spend HOURS here just roaming the different shelves, bins and racks of kitchen gadgets, tools, seasonings and such!
They also have amazing sales from time to time and that’s when I stock up on my essentials of spatulas, woden spoons, serving spoons and even chopsticks. The staff here is super helpful and seriously know where every item resides and can be found. It’s not a big store but it is definitely stocked from floor to ceiling of every kitchen tool and gadet you can think of. And if they don’t have it in the store they will order it for you from their website on the spot. I never leave this store empty handed. At each visit they either have anew display of items or I find something new to try or want to use.

This is a great cooking store to visit. The prices are very good and not like william Sonoma and expensive. They even have cooking classes of all kinds. The class I took was the Julia child’s class. It was lots of fun and the teacher was fun and friendly. They give you a coupon for 10% of just for taking the class so here I go shopping for stuff I most likely do not need but have to have.

This place makes me wish I had a gigantic kitchen and will be the death of my bank account.
I looooove this store! The store associates are friendly and give honest opinions about every product — they also give you free cappucino/​espresso/​lattes (I swear when my Keurig dies I’m buying that magical Nescafe machine!). They have great sales — check the clearance section! Yes I am that lady who stays in the clearance section for a good hour exploring everything! I am also that lady who has way too many kitchen goods and starts gifting it to other people.
They have cooking classes in the first level, which makes the entire store smell divine!

Kitchen stores are my weakness. The amount of random kitchen gadgets (some that I don’t even know what they do) I have is ridiculous. This store is my enabler. They have a gadget for everything.
What surprised me the first time I came here is that the prices are not crazy considering the area it’s in.
The staff is incredibly helpful. They also do cooking classes/​demos downstairs. I haven’t attended any but I might.
If you work or go to school relating to culinary ask for the 10% off discount card. You just need to show proof obviously.

I love this store.
This is the kind of place I like to spend an afternoon in and browse at all the things I want for my kitchen. I wish I had more space in my kitchen and I would be spending tons of dollars here. They have gadgets, spoons, spatulas, knives, this and that in all different colors.
The other day on ¹²⁄₆ my wife needed some Bodum French Press Beakers. So I stop by and within 6 or 7 seconds after walking in, a nice lady offered to help. She knew exactly what I was looking for. It drives me nuts when somebody at their place of employment goes «what’s that». She was certainly trained right. I think she was a seasonal employee and Sur La Table did a great job at selecting the right employee. Service is big with me. She led me to the area where they were located and asked what size. I bought the six Beakers I wanted and was a happy camper.
My only comment of opportunity would be that their Internet site has sizes that does not match product in the store. The French Press Beaker I bought was a 34oz item, but the website said 32oz. With the thousands of items in their inventory this is no biggie.
