History

Established in 1907.

Founded by Jacob Hirshleifer in 1903 as a retail furrier located on Manhattan Avenue in Brooklyn, today’s fifth generation family-​owned and operated Hirshleifers still has the Hirshleifer family minding the store, in the persons of Lillian (Merchandising/​Buying), her three daughters, Shelley (Operations), Caryn (Counsel/​PR and Marketing) and Lori (Buying/​Development), and Lillian’s grand-​daughter, Marci (Buying). A family completely devoted to managing the business, each member brings to it her own unique style and individual talents. The business is currently staffed by 60 employees, including 20 sales associates, 8 managers, and administrative and alterations personnel. Servicing an ever-​increasing client base that draws predominantly from the New York tri-​state area, Hirshleifers offers a unique selling environment in an elegant, yet comfortable setting, where product knowledge, customer familiarity and attention to detail yield superior customer service.

I called here to purchase two Chanel bag few days ago. Sales rep named by ASHELY picked up and she was terrible!
First, she told me the bag is not available because of people on the list but I can do pre order (pay full amount now) and wait until April. I though April is not so bad so I asked her to order it for me.
While I was waiting she has sent me another email saying that there were problem with my billing zip code, which my cc agent told me there is no problem at all and they even approved the transaction but some reasons hirshleifers keep cancelling the order. After all because of multiple transaction she made on my card, (I don’t why she did that) my card got on fraud.
I tried to talk to Ashely about what she did on my card she didn’t even listen and continuously talk talk talk. I was so frustrated and I even had to ask her if I can talk for sec. Omg.
If there are problem with customer, sale rep should listen to customer better, and helpful. Not talk back to customer continuously like she is right. Hopefully she can improve her self and learn more about how to take care of customer who willing to spend thousands dollars.
And most important thing is my friend went there this morning and she got the same bag with no waiting list or no pre ordering!!! Wtf?

One star is too much. The shopping experience at Hirshleifers was terrible. The Chanel «makeup artist» (Frances) as she called herself was terrible. She left streaks on my face with a bronzer I wanted to buy but she was terrible and lost commission on that. She barely used a good enough amount to really see any makeup. She ended up giving me the wrong foundation and I had to drive back over there (an hour on the cross island) Staff is rude and snobby you are also being followed by security. They stand at least 10 feet behind you. Like really back off it’s just a stupid handbag. I’m not look at the Royal jewels so back the hell up. You leave feeling insignificant and used. I won’t be going back there. People there need to bring it down several notches. Oh, I also had to sign several «contracts» aka their shitty return policy and some other nonsense. You would have thought I was signing for a damn mortgage.

As a Chanel devotee, I find myself occasionally wandering into Hirschleifers to check out the latest collections. I can’t say it’s a pleasant experience. The sales people are ridiculously pushy and follow you around every single step you make. You can practically feel them breathing down your neck. Not only are they pushy and follow you around everywhere, but they are incredibly snobby and judgmental. I’ve gone into the store on days when I’m dressed in Prada sandals, and a «put together» outfit with an expensive purse. Then they treat me like royalty, asking me if I want water, which collections I’d like to see… etc. Then another day I’ll go in dressed in completely casual ripped jeans and sneakers, or a workout oufit without having my hair done, with no expensive purse and I have security following me the entire time in the store. Disgraceful! I have never in my life seen a store that so outwardly judgmental on the way one dresses. Clearly at the Americana in general, and particularly at Hirschleifers overt displays of wealth and gaudiness rule supreme. I frequently shop in designer boutiques in the city, as well as many European capitals and the sales people have always been courteous, helpful, and the exact opposite of the people who work at Hirschleifers (who think they are better than you). Maybe Chanel, Jimmy Choo, Saint Laurent and the luxe brands they carry should come in and train them on customer service. Out of principle I will not be buying any designer items from this store… I may choose a model of a purse I like here, but will be taking my business to the flagship store in NYC or Europe!
NOTE: The one super nice and genuine woman here is the beauty and cosmetics specialist, Francis, who is an absolute doll! Hirschleifer’s, maybe you should train your staff to be more like her!

This place is horrible. Please train your staff on customer service /​satisfaction. Please avoid this store at all cost! They are a broker for Chanel, not the real Chanel store. This place makes Chanel look bad and unprofessional.

Good designer selection as far as the goods go! No complaints there at all. The only issue is many of the ladies who work here like to smoke frequently right in the Americana on the walkway. Smelling of cigarettes is not a good look for working in a high end store it’s really gross. Most of the employees are super friendly and others have a bit of an attitude…

I don’t want to come here again. Most of the employees are extremely rude and conceited. I got yelled at, at the Chanel store, for trying to take a belt off the display. That’s not a very smart business strategy for a store that’s trying to sell items for $ 600+.
They have a variety of shoes, but they run out of a lot of sizes and don’t re-​stock. I tried on some Louboutins. They came in 4 colors. And they only had my size in one of the colors. I asked if they could order them in pink, and the employee said no, their shipment is done and they can’t get more. Same with the Valentinos I liked. 4 – 5 colors and had only one in my size.
A positive: The employee in the YSL section was very sweet.
I recommend going to Manhattan, King of Prussia, Palm Beach, or Bal Harbour for your luxury shopping needs. The stores there have much friendlier environments and employees!

I shop at hirschleifers but I must admit after reading a few reviews I understand the intimidation people must feel in this store. This is Manhasset people. Upper echelon! When I do shop here I do telephone orders. You need a lot of money to be wearing this pricey stuff and by all means dress up so you can be treated according. Unfortunately, this is the world we live in. I only feel confident when I walk in because I stalk fashion seasons and I am a designer bag and shoe junkie. Here is a word of advice, if your spending this kind of money, use their personal shopping services so you can be treated accordingly. Or go to

I purchased a brand new Chanel bag as a present for my girlfriend from Hirshleifer’s and when we went in to exchange, we were denied the exchange and in addition, treated very rudely and disrespectfully by the managers. We were very polite throughout but left feeling as if we were insignificant, and almost like we were scammed. It was a horrible experience that I would never expect from a store of this caliber.

So i was in the market for my first Chanel bag purchase, and upon doing massive amounts of research, decided the best thing to do would be venture to Hirshleifers to see a few bags in person. I was extremely apprehensive to go in this store due to all the poor reviews regarding customer service. My boyfriend and I were in the area for other reasons and decided on a whim to go inside Chanel. (We were not dressed very well– i had on yoga pants and a victorias secret sweatshirt with my coach bag so i had pretty low expectations) We were immediately greated by Edie, and I am so thankful that we were. She was extremely helpful and just lovely to talk to. I ended up placing an order that day (the bag i wanted was not in stock) and just two months later (i was told it would be about a 5 month wait) it came in and i picked it up. Edie was just as lovely to me the day I picked up my bag. She even mailed me a personal note thanking me for my purchase, which is a very nice touch. I cannot speak for the rest of the sales associates, but if anyone is looking for a Chanel you must see Edie. You will be treated with respect and kindness and you will have a great experience!

This is my go to place for Chanel! I love shopping here for designer bags, shoes and even makeup. Anita will find you the item you are searching for. She is wonderful and will get you what you are looking for. The parking is awesome and it’s the best place for all the high end designer labels. The only thing is their strict return policy so be sure you absolutely want it! ^_^

Okay so this is what happened in Chanel:
Me and my friend walked in, saw a Crocodile Flap, asked to see it.
SA: It’s very expensive.
Us: It’s beautiful. Can we see it?
SA: It’s very expensive though. I have to ask for manager.
Manager came, shot us with her eyes. Open the drawers. The first thing the SA did was to see the price and shouted directly onto our faces: It’s $ 34,000.
I don’t get these SAs. They failed at so many levels on Customer Service.

I don’t know why they hire those crappy workers. There are so many other stores and even online malls that they honestly can’t afford to have bad attitude.
I would rather pay more money and go somewhere else! It’s not like they carry something extremely special in their stores anyways.
You can totally go elsewhere and be treated much better. It’s really unfortunate…

I don’t get the SAs’ attitude. Shopping is supposed to be fun, not an exercise in punishment. If my only reason to go shopping was to get a particular item, I can just find it online. I go into stores for the fun of trying on new things and perhaps falling for something I wouldn’t have if I hadn’t seen it in real life. I don’t care if the sales associates don’t hover over me or cater to my every whim. But if I ask a question to you, don’t turn around while I’m in the middle of a sentence and then answer me with your back still to me.
So my recommendation? Hirshleifer’s is good if you see something you like online, but don’t want to buy just yet because you haven’t tried/​seen it in real life. But then when you’re done checking it out in-​store, go back home and buy the goods online. Hirshleifer’s doesn’t deserve your actual business.
