Sometimes things aren’t as good as you remember. Growing up in the New Orleans area, anytime I wanted a po-boy, all I had to do was call the nearest Danny and Clyde’s, and in a few minutes I would have a great overstuffed po-boy. Or so I thought. Located right off of I-12, this location is a large full service gas station and sandwich shop. It even has a drive thru where you can order sandwiches. On my most recent trip, I sampled the fried shrimp and the hot roast beef. The shrimp was decent, but the roast beef was downright awful. The bread on both sandwiches seemed to be a knock off of Leidenheimer. It was OK, but something was off. The shrimp was small, plentiful and perfectly fried. I have had better, but in a pinch, this was an acceptable po-boy. The roast beef seemed to be regular deli roast beef with sub par gravy. It was one of the worst versions of that type of sandwich I had ever had. Service was friendly, but extremely slow. It appeared there was only one employee working and it took close to 20 minutes to get my food. There are too many other alternatives for better po-boys in this general area. If you find yourself at Danny and Clydes, stick with the fried sandwiches.
