Do not go here if you are a woman. I went here a not too long ago for brakes, a mechanic had looked at my car from a different establishment and said I needed brake pads. I used to live not too far from Pep Boys in Manchester, so if I had to drop it off, I could walk home. Well, they got my car up on the lift and said I needed rotors and calipers. I asked to see the rotors, as I know what a worn rotor looks like. They were insistent that I needed them. Well my car inspection was coming up, so I had them do it, just in case. A couple of weeks later, I went in for my inspection, my 3^rd brake light was out (the one in the back window), so they put in new bulbs, then, one of the mechanics came out and said that it still doesn’t work, that it’s probably the wire chassis. I said no, take my car off the lift, I’ll go somewhere else. I went to a friend’s house, told him what happened, he looked at the bulbs from the 3^rd brake light, they were all broken or burnt. We went to VIP and bought new bulbs and it worked fine. My friend went there and reamed them all out, for trying to take advantage of a woman, and charging me for new bulbs when the old ones were there.

I used to bring two vehicles here for tires, tuneups, oil changes, batteries, inspections; the routine stuff. Once or twice I thought the quoted estimates were too high. I think on one of those occasions I challenged the estimate and insisted they show me the proof. That may have sent a signal not to try any fraudulent overkill diagnosis on me. I stopped going there after several incidents of the service writer seeming apathetic and refusing to acknowledge any coupons. The annoyance grew every time until I just found another shop. Fortunately I never had a horror story like some of these other one-​star reviews. These kinds of horror stories in the reviews are why some people learn to service their own vehicles, or at least educate themselves so they can judge when they’re getting hoodwinked by the shop. We don’t want to have to do that, but what’s the alternative? I have learned how to handle failing inspections and hopefully this advice will help others avoid the pain. Many customers get high estimates at inspection time. The service shop knows they have you captive because the first thing the tech does when he reads the order is he scrapes off the existing sticker, THEN he begins the inspection process. Later if you refuse the recommended work after they hand you the estimate, they put a bright neon FAIL sticker where the old valid one was, and you drive off in a panic because this fail sticker is designed to attract the cops, so you carefully drive to another shop right quick. But shop #2 sees the FAIL sticker and they know you are at a disadvantage. All you can do is pray they won’t see you as prey (like what I did there? :-). INSTEAD, find a shop that agrees NOT to scrape off the sticker until they give you an estimate and let you decide how to proceed. Better yet, bring in vehicle one month AHEAD of inspection for an LOF and estimate as to what it would take to bring the vehicle up to snuff WITHOUT REMOVING THE STICKER or doing any other work. Many shops offer a combination LOF and multi-​point inspection. They MUST agree to not removing the sticker because time on the existing sticker has not run out yet. That’s what you want. This way they don’t have you by the spherical lower extremities in case work is required, and you have been forewarned which is to be forearmed. Not a panic crisis scenario, at least not yet, and you can even go to another shop to get a second opinion. Amazing how things get better when they don’t have you over a barrel. I know this from first hand experience.

DO NOT GO HERE FOR INSPECTION… Went to Pep Boys Manchester with my handicapped stepmother for her car inspection yesterday (Saturday). Figured it would be easy in and out easy inspection since the car only had 3k on it since its last inspection a year ago. To my and her surprise, they claimed it needed a new muffler because the old one had a rust hole on top. I thought this suspicious since there was no loud noise coming from the car. But after consideration, she decided to get it done there because of her limited ability and no one in the family who can assist her during a weekday. The cost came to $ 380 plus the cost of the inspection. I looked under the car after it was done and noticed they unnecessary replaced the exhaust pipes besides the muffler hence the large cost of the repair. Not to mention the 3 ½ hours of total wait Time… I wonder how many cars they pass inspection with without any «problems»…reminds me of Sears auto repair back in the 80s with the mechanics getting some type of commission work… this place is a RIP OFF!
I would have given this place zero stars if it was allowed.

Once upon a time I used to like Pep Boys. Over the years, I have spent a lot of money at the Pep Boys in Manchester NH. I trusted that every dollar I spent was needed, and would keep my Navigator in good running condition. But, then something strange happened. I went for an oil change and before they were done, a service rep came over to me and told me my windshield wipers needed replacing.
I was completely dumbfounded. My fiancé had just changed them last week. Why on God’s green earth did it not register to me that they just tried to make an extra $ 25.00 off of me?
Fast forward to my recent visit on October 13^th. Since I purchased my tires at Pep Boys, it came with a free tire rotation. After my rotation was done, a service rep informed me I needed to have some under carriage work done so my car would pass inspection. Minutes later I received a quote for $ 1068.00. Something didn’t feel right. I got a second opinion from Darlings Auto. I made an appointment at Darlings Auto and also gave Darlings the Pep Boys Quote with the itemize list of parts and repairs.
Later that morning I receive Darlings Auto quote of just over $ 640.00 including the cost of the inspection. I also learned that there were a few parts on the Pep Boys list that didn’t need replacing at all. As a matter of fact Phil explained that one of the parts listed for replacement by Pep Boys still had the sticker on it. I was livid. Pep Boys tried to get me to pay for parts and services I did not need! Thankfully I save $ 500.00 by going to Darlings.
After the deceptive quote from Pep Boys I decided I would never go back there. Unfortunately during my state inspection at Darlings, Phil notice my front left tire had a deep cut in the steel belt and would need to be replaced. Unfortunately I bought my tires at Pep boys. I called them and found out how much a new tire would cost. Because I had that inflated quote for the under carriage work, I decided to get a quote for the replacement tire over the phone.
I was told the prorated cost of the replacement tire would be $ 68.80 installed, but they would have to order it. The following Tuesday the tire finally came in and I had it installed Wednesday, ¹⁰⁄₂₂ the next day. I knew going in to the store would be difficult for me, but I also knew I was given a quote and I had every intention of making them stick to it.
However when I got the estimate for the tire and installation when I was in the store, it was $ 95.00 and change. I explained I was quoted $ 68.80 over the phone. And then the service rep, said there was no way anyone could give me an accurate quote over the phone without seeing the vehicle. Part of the additional expense was a charge to balance my tire, and there was another charge that I was too angry to read. That’s when I lost it!
I confronted the service rep about the inflated quote that I previously received and told him, what Phil at Darlings Auto said. The Pep Boys service rep basically responded calmly and tried to explain that the estimate was probably a suggested list of parts. I told him, no the service rep told me this was an itemize list of work and parts that need to be done so my car can pass inspection. And that two of the parts did not even need to be replaced.
Another service rep, Joe, enters the conversation and asked what was going on. I relayed what happened. I told him I was so livid that I almost came to Pep Boys to rant in front of their customers about the $ 500.00 inflated quote. Joe said to me, that it wasn’t necessary and what would my complaining have accomplished. I explained that $ 500.00 over charge was piracy. The first service rep found the over inflated quote, printed it out and gave it to Joe. Joe looked at it, and reiterated, that it was suggested repairs.
I was so furious, I wanted out. I slid my key to the first service rep and told take the $ 95.00 and fix my car so I can get out of there. I couldn’t even look at them. Joe disappeared into the garage. When I looked down, there was a new quote for my tire $ 56.58. I took the new quote and went to the waiting area. Another customer shared his nightmares with Pep Boys.
Then a surprise came-​Joe appeared and announced my car was ready, and asked if I had a moment so he could speak with me. I packed up my computer and went to speak to Joe. Joe apologized and said he was wrong. He said he looked under my car when it was up on the lift and saw the two parts listed on the quote that should not have been on the quote. He validated my overcharge claim. He also said the service rep who created the quote misdiagnosed my car. Joe said the misdiagnosis was not malicious, and that he understood why I was so upset. I told Joe I appreciate and accept his apology, but I would not be coming back.
I paid my 56.58 and left. While I’m grateful Joe admitted their error and apologized I will never trust Pep Boys with my vehicles again. All of this is to say, double check your quotes from Pep Boys.

I went there the other day for the 4 th time. I can’t believe the costumer service there if they even notice your there. We have been there to find and price parts but every time all we get is we don’t have it I can’t give you a price. I worked for Pep Boys in the late 90’s if we treated customers like that no one would have bothered with us. So please Pep Boys Management teach your employees customer service. There are plenty of other Parts Stores that don’t treat us like our money doesn’t matter

If you value service and your car. look elsewhere.
Blew 2 tires on a pot hole on Friday and had the car towed to here because this is where I got my studded snow tires. I had to leave my car over night due to how late I got there.
After being told they had no snow tires and wouldn’t order me any the night before, they somehow were able to come up with a pair by the time they called me the next morning. I paid for the two tires, labor and an alignment and went on my way.
The next day I drove on the highway and realized the car was swerving all over the highway and was hard to keep straight. Being that it was Sunday I waited till Monday to call them.
HERE’S WHERE IT GETS GOOD:
I called as soon as they opened explaining the work I had done and stated that the car was very difficult to drive and felt like I could spin out while just changing lanes on the highway. I was told that I could not be fit into their schedule (even though the work they had done made the car unsafe) and that I would have to come in the next day.
This is not an option as I need the car to get to work every day. I then called AutoFair Hyundai down the street and they told me to bring the car in as soon as I could to assess what was wrong.
After a few hours they informed me that not only had the car been aligned wrong (assuming the car had been aligned while the steering wheel had been turned) but they had installed the wrong rating tires which were especially dangerous considering the other two (non damaged) tires were a different rating.
I am now paying another shop more money to assess and fix Pep Boy’s mistakes to make the care safe and driveable again.
BASICALLY: Go anywhere else and you wont have to pay 2 mechanics to get the car done right. Plus the expense of the other mechanic to find the mistakes that Pep Boys makes

I came in for an alignment this weekend and was greeted by Mike at the service center and he was very friendly and got my car in right away. I received a phone call from Luke about an hour later, stating that they wanted to do an additional service for only $ 10.50 extra. I appreciate them calling and asking my permission before just providing a service. 30 minutes later I then received a text message saying my car was ready. I was able to use a coupon and got the best price for an alignment that I was able to find by calling around to different Manchester Auto service centers. I appreciate the fast and friendly customer service.

DO NOT bring your car to get serviced at Pep Boys these people do not care about anything except adding up the labor cos. t $ 243.68 in labor and $ 117.13 for other. I’ve had to bring the car back 3x’s and it is still not back to the way it was when I first brought it in. Look under your hood before pulling out of the parking lot, there was a major bolt missing and NONE of the wires were snapped back into place, they don’t care about the service they are providing «its not their car attitude». They won’t pay for me to bring it to some one else knowing they are incompetent in fixing the problem they caused. I an now looking to get of hold of Corporate or at least District because with their incompetents for warned this place is why we don’t trust mechanics and they aren’t really working to hard to better their reputation. Bottom line DON’T DO IT!!!

Not bad but the register help always stinks. Service dept not bad but be very careful. You walk in and frequently get ignored.

I called to check on a. State inspection. No problem the guy on the phone says. I get here and wait 3hours for a 20 minute job then have to make an appointment for the next day, Sunday. 45 minutes the guy said. Afteran hour, my car is still sitting where I parked it. I had to stand in line again. (the place is. Busy). Now it’s done in 15 minutes. 4 hrs burned
