History

Established in 1986.

Ken Roberts never forgot the words of motivational speaker Earl Nightingale: «Keep it simple, salesmen.»

In fact, the advice made such an impression on Ken that he and wife Kathy decided to use it when they named their business.

KISS carpet in Mancelona not only carries Nightingale’s words in its name, but the philosophy has carried through in the way the Roberts’ do business. It has worked so well they have opened two other stores at 6250 E. Traverse Highway in Traverse City and at 8600 Moeller Drive in Harbor Springs.

Kiss Carpet Design Center opened in March of 1986 in Mancelona and has expanded that location three times to meet the growing needs of customers. People used to ask Ken Sr. why he built a store in the middle of nowhere. His answer? «It’s the middle of everywhere!»

The Mancelona showroom at 7152 US-​131 has more than 15,000 square feet of space to showcase every type of flooring, including natural stone, wool and hardwood.

My name is Ken Roberts I have owned and operated our family business for 29 years. What does that mean to you, the consumer?

We live here in Northern Michigan because we love it here. We’re extremely proud of the relationships we’ve built over these 29 years, and our customers, as our employees are like family.

Our sole purpose is to provide you with the product that will best suit your needs, while fitting your budget, and go the extra mile to do all we can to fulfill your dreams with that budget. We’ll be up front with you in explaining both the upside as well as the downside of any product you choose, for you deserve to know exactly what you’re getting, and it’s up to us to provide you with exactly what you’re paying for. Nothing less is acceptable.

We will educate and provide the proper ways to maintain your product to prolong the life and maintain the beauty of your flooring, allowing you to receive the most for your money, regardless of your initial investment.
