Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles

Was there for a very very long time but had a ton of stuff to take car of (just moved from MI). Felicia was my rep and thank God she was! She was super patient, kind, and professional. Her counterpart Mary was the exact opposite. The security guard (didn’t catch his name older black gentleman) was super nice and helpful too! Helped make a historically bad experience into a good one

This is the worst DMV I have ever been to. The lines are long no matter when you go. Also, they will not let you start any transaction without a passport or birth certificate, even though they have a long list of acceptable items, and even though you might have multiple valid documents with you that are on their list, they WILL NOT do business with you unless you have a passport or birth certificate. Please, either change your list or change your practices.

My experience was as smooth as expected for a DMV. Get there early, have your sh*t together, extra stuff you may not need, and take a number. It takes what it takes. They still got confused among themselves when passing us to different counters but it wasn’t the worst DMV.

There are few times in life when you feel like you want to pull your hair out, kick chairs, and run away to another state.
Each time I come to this DMV that is the exact feelings I have. In fact I am writing this review as I have to go in an hour and title another vehicle. I am dreading doing this must do chore and it makes my body shiver in fear of the horrible experience I am about to experience.
I will say some of the employees are doing a great job being patient. Others truly don’t care about you are the quality of service they provide.
I don’t understand how a manager can have the place running with 5 employees seeing customers when there are 12 stations that should be full of employees working. This leads me to believe the DMV is either under staffed, or not managed properly.
We waited 3 hours to get a new license.
Update.
Today was much better. Took 40 min to be seen. And they had a full house of employees working the stations. Also the employee was very polite.
My original ranking was one star. I’m going to adjust it to two stars as of now.

I just took a road test this morning. The madam at info desk was nice and kind. I didn’t wait too long in the lines either at info desk or at window, 10minutes each I guess. The officer who monitored my road test was a nice young black man, he pointed out something that I didn’t pay much attention during the test –although it’s not mistake, it did remind me to drive safely and cautiously as a new driver. We actually also complaint the property tax on cars in VA and had several short chats which made me relax during the test. I am very glad to acquire my driver licence after the first time road test. I think road test in VA is easier than that in other states, but I suggest new drivers pay more attention to stop sign and drive in a proper and safe manner.

DO NOT GO HERE. They are the most uneducated people that don’t know what they are doing. We came back 4 times to get a Virginia license and every time they told me I don’t have something and they kept changing their minds. The ladies at the first desk are horrible, unorganized, and don’t know what they are doing. Don’t go here. Go to the one 30 min away. They are 100% nicer and more organized and are willing to compromise. Not like these wankers at this DMV. Worst experience at a DMV. Just HORRIBLE!

When I was in the road test, the invigilator is playing cell phone ，terrible

No appointments available. You gotta come here to get in line for a number only to wait in another line! Apparently they only allow a certain number of people in line inside, so the rest has to wait outside, even in the pouring rain (despite all the space in the building!!!). I pulled up on a Monday morning 10 minutes after opening and the line was out the door. Those people people were holding up umbrellas and some didn’t even have one– they just stood in the rain… NOT worth it.
When I returned the next day, the line to get a number took about 30 minutes. After I received my number, it was another 30 minutes. When the computer finally called my number (yay), the DMV associate just made my morning worse… She looked like she despised her job. I smiled and greeted her, but couldn’t even get a ‘good morning’ outta the lady! These darn state workers…

Going to one of these is sometimes necessary.
I like their ‘take a number’ system.
The ‘reception’ person here can do a better job
of verifying documents ‘before’ you get in line.
I waited almost and hour to discover I didn’t have the necessary
original documents.

Hire more people! 1 hour wait at 2pm on a Wednesday.
As all the DMV’s across The US mostly rude employees. I wouldn’t give three stars but wouldn’t let me post on one or two.
