Opened in 1999 by Andrew Aylett, OTR, CHT, Advanced Hand Rehabilitation strives to provide excellent & comprehensive Hand & Upper Extremity therapy services that are second to none. We work closely with Hand Surgeons to ensure that their patients gain the most thorough & rapid recovery possible. Our greatest source of referrals are, in fact, Hand Surgeons who know the importance of a highly skilled therapist to ensure that their patients obtain the best possible post surgical results. Furthermore, Advanced Hand Rehabilitation has no physician ownership or financial involvement. If you surgeon referred you, it’s not because he gets a kickback or plays golf with Andrew! Past patients are another important referral source. We aim to create a relaxed, personal, yet professional environment where people feel comfortable & among friends. We have Occupational & Physical Therapy at all three locations. All therapy is provided by highly qualified therapists with decades of clinical experience.

Andrew graduated in 1990 from St. Andrews School of Occupational Therapy, now part of Northampton University, England. After working in England at Milton Keynes General Hospital for 3 years Andrew & his wife Christine, a physical therapist, moved to the United States. In 1998 Andrew passed the certification exam to become a Certified Hand Therapist, becoming one of a small number of therapists in New Jersey with this internationally recognized qualification. In 2000 Andrew opened the doors to Advanced Hand Rehabilitation with a goal of providing the highest quality of Hand & Upper Extremity rehab possible in Ocean & Monmouth Counties. Since then the practice has expanded to include locations in Manasquan, Brick & Jackson. From routine hand surgeries such as Carpal Tunnel Release to complex arm reconstructions and reattachment, Andrew has successfully treated them all.

I was in a car accident over a month ago and was recommended to come to therapy here by my primary physician. After the accident, I couldn’t hold a pencil, button my pants, pick up my one year old or do any of the things I needed to at my job.

With the help of Andrew and Michele at Advanced Hand, I am well on my way to being functional again and have made extraordinary progress over the last month.
You can expect during your first visit to be evaluated: they check your flexibility, strength and movement and recommend exercises for you to do at home until you come back for your next appointment. These exercises made a BIG difference in my first therapy session after I was evaluated… Don’t imagine that they waste your time because they are worth every minute.
Each session after is catered to what you need with exercises/​therapies to strengthen, stretch, condition, soothe. Personally, my favorite is having my hands dipped in paraffin wax! :)
They are REAL and upfront with you and are in the business of getting you back to your life because hands are important and you don’t realize it until you can’t use them anymore.

I can’t say enough good things about Advanced Hand Rehabilitation. Andrew and Michelle are both so professional and compassionate. You feel confident that you are getting the best care possible. I have been to other hand therapists in the past and no one compared to the level of care I am receiving here. I am always welcomed with a smile and «how are you» by the front desk when I arrive and they are always very efficient. I would recommend this place in a heart beat to anyone needing hand therapy.

In response to Preffered C’s review… there were a few patients in the building including myself when he walked in with his bitter attitude. Upon walking in, he had an instant attitude about not being able to find the place. I guess the numbers on the building that are the size of a semi truck weren’t obvious enough. A fellow patient next to me made a remark that he doesn’t care if he re-​breaks his hand… he just wants to punch that guy in his face. Obviously, if this guys attitude was justified, he would not be alienating everyone around him. He was an ignorant, bitter, old, asshole that needs to never leave his house. As for the comment of ‘another teen idiot’ that sweet girl is 26 with a masters degree. Look at the rest of his reviews to different places. Nothing makes that old good-​for-​nothing man happy. 2 thumbs up for this place. Always friendly, and great service.

I walked out. A hellhole!
I have not met Andrew Aylett. I cannot say anything about him.
But I can state that the atmosphere of the office is that of a decrepit gym that hasn’t been modernized in 40 years. What is the worst part is the lack of professionalism of this place.
I drove there using my GPS and the directions I was given by phone. Anyone familiar w/​this area knows that Route 34 (where this place is located) is a very wide highway w/​very fast cars speeding on it. So I put my flashers on because I didn’t know exactly where I was supposed to turn to get into the parking area. It is common for businesses and residences here NOT to put their street numbers on the front of their bldgs. So that, combined w/​my unfamiliarity w/​the area, made finding the place difficult.
The business is called ADVANCED HAND REHAB. However, there is no sign at all that is visible from the road. There is a sign for an ORTHOPAEDICS biz, but that doesn’t mean it’s Advanced Hand Rehab.
So I drove in a circle for 15 minutes trying to locate the facility. Not pleasant or reassuring. Once I found it, I walked in feeling pissed. I asked the teen-​aged receptionist why they didn’t have any signage (except on the glass door). I expected perhaps an apology or you know, we should have better signage, or maybe an offer of a glass of water. Nope.
Here is what I got: «I don’t know why the owners doesn’t put a sign out front.»
On the glass door to the bldg, there are MC and Visa logos. I had a co-​pay so I gave the receptionist my Visa card. «Our hand specialist doesn’t take Visa. You can pay w/​cash or a check.» I had neither. «You can pay next time,» she said. When I arranged the appt, I should have been informed of accepted payment methods. And why can’t the company take my cc payment and give the cash to the PT?
By then, I had such bad feelings about this place that I demanded my Rx back and began to walk out. Another teenaged idiot said, «The therapist can see you now.»
No way, I thought. Everything about the place is wrong. And if I felt that way prior to actually being worked on, it was time to leave.

I met my match with a can of tomatoes and after severing nerves, an artery and a tendon, found myself in need of physical therapy for my hand — something I never thought I’d have to be researching! Andrew and his team are as good as it gets when it comes to PT. Therapy is done in groups usually with each person getting individual attention and then working on their exercises with supervision. The setting is very friendly and the staff is knowledgable and put my worries at ease. I felt like I could ask anything regarding my care and get an intelligent and well thought out response. Basically I felt taken care of and would recommend Advanced Hand Rehabilitation to anyone needing that kind of care.
