The Mammoth Lakes Jiu-​Jitsu (MLJJ) team is proud to be part of Optimus Brazilian Jiu-​Jitsu. The Martial Arts program was created at the Snowcreek Athletic Club (SAC) in 2008 led by instructor Eric Leach. Eric had a previous background in various striking and grappling arts and had connected with other Mammoth locals that shared his desire to start training again in a more formal setting. SAC welcomed the program as an added benefit to its membership back in early 2008. From that point Eric experimented with a vast array of martial arts classes, but with his love and predominant background being in the grappling side of the arts and the core group sharing an interest primarily in the ground game, Eric transitioned the class to be traditional jiu-​jitsu oriented. In 2010 MLJJ had the unforgettable opportunity to have Royce Gracie teach class. This soon turned into a fantastic relationship and both SAC and MLJJ become part of the Royce Gracie Jiu-​Jitsu Network from 2011 to 2015.

Meet the Manager

Eric L.

Manager

Eric has been a Mammoth Lakes local for over a decade. He currently works as CA Licensed Real Estate Broker and owns his own brokerage, Resort Property Realty, Inc. From childhood he has a wrestling background that soon led to three years of intense collegiate judo training as part of the Northern Arizona University Judo Team. It was there that he received his highest ranking brown belt («ik-​kyu»). Post college Eric began training in more of a MMA style of fighting while being back in California. Once moving to Mammoth Lakes he connected with Sensei Smart learning Makoto Ryu Kempo-​Jutsu (MRKJ). For years he trained this Japanese based discipline vigorously until eventually reaching the belt ranking of brown in both MRKJ and Australian Combat Karate by Shihan Bruce Haynes. But since 2009 Eric now focuses solely on Gracie Jiu-​Jitsu in which he currently holds the rank of purple belt awarded to him by the one and only Royce Gracie!
