Steve D Rubinstein, OD – Sound Shore Vision Center

I am a fan of Dr Rubinstein and his staff, great service, on time response, excellent care, great options for glasses and lenses. Highly recommend him!

Dr Steve Rubinstein is extremely knowledgeable, always friendly and on time. His office and staff are also top notch. He is always available, accessible and has tons of stories to tell on almost every subject. I highly recommend Dr Rubinstein and his Optometry Practice for all your eye care needs.

We had a frustrating experience with Dr. Rubinstein. He was dismissive, inattentive, consistently downplayed or ignored my daughter’s errors while she was reading the charts and ultimately failed to provide her with a working pair of glasses. He took the money though.
At initial visit while wearing lenses Dr. Rubinstein came up with my daughter was asked to read a sign across the street. She couldn’t. He said «I don’t believe you» and made the glasses with those lenses anyway. Her vision in these glasses was significantly worse than in her old glasses. He had to redo them, but the second version was no better. On third attempt the glasses were finally an improvement over her old ones, but still not good: she was squinting every now and then, complained of blurry letters and couldn’t read number plates and signs where I (–4.50 and astigmatism) had no trouble in my under-​powered (–4.25) glasses. In our final follow up visit she read charts again in her new glasses. She got a lot of letters wrong, there was even a line where she got just one letter right. Dr. Rubinstein, however, acted as if she got almost everything right and declared that she can see very well. That was bizarre, surreal even. When I pointed out that that’s not the case he said he disagrees, that this is the best he can do, that we should seek a second opinion and showed us the door.
Now we need to start over and pay again, all out of pocket, since Dr. Rubinstein used up our annual vision coverage.
Update: new exam with another doctor followed by successful prescription that actually works confirmed that Mr. Rubinstein simply doesn’t know how to measure eyesight.

I am a fan! Dr, Rubinstein was personable and patient. He answered all of my questions… and i probably ask more questions than a regular patient. The staff is nice and friendly as well. Much better experience than what I had in Rye and Rye Brook. Can’t wait to get my glasses!

Dr. Steve is so personable, patient and helpful. He has a great selection of glasses and he made sure I found the perfect fit for my prescription, which is quite strong. Also he fitted me for contacts and helped me find the most comfortable pair of contacts I’ve worn in years. I’ve recommended him to everyone who asks, and the people who’ve gone to see him have all come back to thank me. I’ve seen him in both his NYC office and in Mamaroneck, and if you’re looking for a full service, caring and professional doctor, then you should try Dr. Steve.

A good friend hand-​delivered me to Steve’s NYC office over 20 years ago, to get my first glasses in a decade. Since then he’s been my go-​to guy for everything eye-​related, esp. my contact lenses. He is super-​knowledgeable, easygoing, caring, and even helps me as a budget-​conscious client. I just can’t recommend Steve enough. Super at his profession and a good guy I trust with my eyes — no small matter for me (especially as a professional photographer)!
