Dun & Bradstreet Credibility

Our company has had a Dun & Bradstreet number for years, but never paid for the service. I went in the other day to review what they said about us and found tax lien filings from 2004 and 2005 (none of which were accurate) and also amounts listed as past due that again we don’t show on our books at all. Our comptroller obtained documents from the state and county showing that there are no tax liens outstanding and I emailed copies using the «IUpdate» feature. I also «disputed» the 3 past due lines they listed. A few days later I received an email that my account had been updated. So I went in expecting to see the tax liens removed. Nope, still there. I called and asked a representative. He said that it takes a while for those to clear… and then noted that he showed several past due lines. I said I only saw 3, He said he saw 8 or 9? I asked why I couldn’t see what he was seeing. He blamed my browser. Then he said that I could hire them to manage my account… for $ 9000 per year… Really — pay them 9,000 to correct their own errors? My disputed items came back as «confirmed» but it doesn’t tell you who says you owe the money. So how could I pay it even if I thought I owed it? They won’t tell you the vendor who they supposedly say has an outstanding invoice. Totally bogus. They can put anything up there… or be showing information from 20 years ago. There is no way to clear it without paying them, and even if you pay there is no guarantee they will make it correct. I will never put any credence into any Dun & Bradstreet rating, good or bad.

Straight up scam. I was surprised to see this even make it to my desk, until I saw their wording and approach, which makes them sound credible, that is, until you do a little digging.
Their operations are clearly illegal and the best thing you can do is shred anything that comes from them. Whatever you do, DO NOT respond to them.

I incorporated a small business for some liability protection. I don’t deal with the public. I don’t deal with vendors, yet, I get a letter stating that I have been assigned a D-​U-​N-​S number and my credit profile is incomplete. Hahaha. This is spam. In fact, I would almost consider this a fishing scheme that borders on identity theft. I am filing this D&B letter in the paper shredder with the other letters I’ve received over the years from the Nigerian prince, and from realtors offering to sell me swampland in Florida and oceanfront property in Arizona.

I have an authorized charge to my bank account. TWICE in a week. I have NEVER done business with this company. I have tried calling the phone number listed on the transaction and no one picks up.

My experience with Dun & Bradstreet was unbelievably bad. I can’t believe a company with a supposedly good reputation and name can operate the way they do. We have three successful businesses and have been in business over 25 years. Some vendors were asking if we had a D&B rating and we thought it would be a good idea, so I called up and reluctantly shelled out $ 499 per company to a sales rep who promised the moon. I began getting emails showing my rating bouncing around (we have always had outstanding credit — pay bills weekly — always current on all accounts). I spoke with a rep and she said I now needed to «manage» my accounts — for a substantial fee. She then launched into additional services for additional fees, basically saying my report was worthless unless I «managed» my account. I stopped everything. I have no idea what kind of report people get when they check us on D&B. This is a complete rip-​off! Can’t believe they are allowed to continue to operate.

They sent me an email staying there was an incomplete registration only to find out it was just a scam. It was a sales call disguised as a support call. The call started saying, you are on a recorded line, right off the back. They don’t ask your permission but want to use your recording as a evidence against you. The worst part is they state that you have to get 600 $ plus report pulled or other companies will get the wrong impression. Going out a fresh new company and hitting them up for service necessary and scaring into paying a heavy fee just does not seem american. Horrible company with shady sale tactics.

This is not Dunn And Bradstreet… it is a company that is scamming people DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH THIS COMPANY

Its a scam.
They told me the only way I could update my company information in their credit database was to pay them $ 599 for their online service.
I did so, and was able to add some records, but it did nothing to affect my company status (not a credit problem, but how my company was structured was affecting how things were sold on the apple app store)
Chalk that up to a waste of money.
HOWEVER! — They did NOT tell me the service was auto renewing! I missed the first renew, but when I called them to cancel the second renew, they said they had no record of charging me.
I called my credit card company and together we called D&B.
Me: Please cancel the account and refund the money you charged me yesterday.
Them: We can offer you a discount.
Me: No, please cancel the account and refund the money you charged me yesterday.
Them: OK: we will do that and issue you a service credit.
Me: NO! please cancel the account and refund the money you charged me yesterday.
Them: OK we will do that.
Even the credit card rep was amazed.

Dun & Bradstreet Credibility is a scam. Their primary method for determining your credit worthiness is if you, as a business, pay other vendors for services who also themselves have a DUNS number. So if you have excellent credit history, pay ALL of your vendors on time, etc., they will still show your credit as bad if you do not have very many vendors who have (and pay for) a DUNS number. This is a great business model for D and B because this just encourages everyone to run out and get registered with them.
The «Credibility» division is not even really Dun and Bradstreet. This company licenses the name and data, but other than this they are just a scam outfit. I received a call from these sales people, thought it was the actual D and B people, and registered/​paid for what they said I needed. A month later now I discovered I was suckered into a scam, which shows how sophisticated they are because I can usually sniff out this kind of thing very quickly.

Received a call AND email from this firm asking me to renew my
gold membership service and all they needed was a final form to complete the transaction. When I replied to the email it bounced back and the woman that called glossed over the returned email.
She gave me the following number to call (800−208−8419) to begin the verification process.

Pay to play? Shakedown artists? I used to have great respect for this 170 year old brand. What have they become?

I and my business we paid as told $ 800 to establish our business credit. They promised to update the business credit for a better leverage over deals of business loan and LoC. They walked away free with my money and then disappeared never got anything done but sending me couple of emails. I’m a total victim here. I would love to join force to bring this fraud organisation to justice if opportunities come.

My number is listed on the do not call registry. They still managed to call. I tried to contact their legal team in Santa Monica to tell them they were breaking the law by calling people on the do not call registry… not to mention it was my cell phone. Couldn’t actually get through to their legal team. Really not surprised. This company is full of telemarketing trolls that cold call you from what appears to be a local number. Do not be fooled this company has extremely shady business tactics. They will try to sell you a service that can be completed for free! Do yourself a favor type in their information into google before purchasing anything you will see how they scam businesses into buying their services. I was surprised at their level of deceit sharing names with Dun and Bradstreet. They are not related in anyway. Do your homework. Report them to the FCC if the continue to solicit. Especially if they call your cell! End of rant!

I’ve probably received five phone calls and four mailings from this company that on the surface seemed like a scam. Naturally I needed to do a little research to find out who these people are, who funds them, when they went into business, their bbb rating, any lawsuits, and general feedback about the company. Apparently they are a separate legal entity from Dun and Bradstreet, but they do business with one another. I’ve read complaints about strong arm extortion tactics being used by Dnb credibility, which seem consistent with any communications I’ve received from them. I’ve also read about people spending many hundreds to many thousands of dollars dealing with this company when it was all unnecessary. There may be some benefit to working with this company, but I haven’t read anything that would indicate it. Apparently, this company is a 2010 spinoff from Dun and Bradstreet’s credit monitoring arm of operations. Because they utilize Dun and Bradstreet credit monitoring software products, pay royalties, and retain the name, the issue of a conflict of interest will more than likely surface in the courts.
Because of the seedy nature of this business, my suggestion is to work directly with Dun and Bradstreet’s iupdate page and those you do business with directly. On the bright side, their communication brought to light the fact that I haven’t really completed using all the tools available with Dun and Bradstreet, which is useful information for me.

I have gotten several cold calls from people claiming to work for this company and asking me to explain my internal/​administrative business activities to them. I am not sure who writes their telemarketing script but nothing screams scam like a cold call asking for sensitive financial information.
In the end there is a sales pitch for an expensive service of credit monitoring and potential for «repair». While on the phone I googled several articles on lawsuits alleging false negative reporting to stimulate credit repair services by a company with this name, including this Unilocal thread.
Google says the definition of extortion is, «the practice of obtaining something, especially money, through force or threats. Synonyms: blackmail, shakedown; formal: exaction»
I’m sure it wasn’t extortion because I wasn’t directly threatened, but I certainly didn’t appreciate the approach or the repeat and unsolicited calls.
I do think there is a natural conflict of interest between reporting and selling service for repair. Congress or the FFIEC should do something to protect small businesses from this type of treatment.
I admit I am a bit concerned about retaliation for posting my thoughts on the subject.

Where to start with this company? D&B credibility corp is mostly there to charge you for services you can get from iupdate for nothing. They will call you relentlessly to sell you additional services but have a grueling process for fixing errors.

Wow, wow, wow, we just discovered that we were scammed into Dun & Bradstreet Credibility Corp instead of Dun and Bradstreet — the real company at a tune of $ 1099/​year!!!

Anyway, don’t be fooled. Dun and Bradstreet Credibility Corp’s «credit monitoring» service has nothing to do with Dun & Bradstreet, and they were spun off as a credit monitoring company — and kept the name and are paying royalty to the original company — Dun & Bradstreet.
They offered my company to update our Dun and Bradstreet for $ 2000 if we do it ourselves, and $ 8000 if they do it for us — Yikes!!!
The only thing you need and should do is go to

We recently updated our business information with Dun & Bradstreet to get a CCR number, required for being a contractor with the federal government. A few days later we had a contact from Dun & Bradstreet Credibility Corp. claiming our credit file was incomplete. We called them and they wanted $ 299 to update our information. They insisted two businesses had contacted them asking for that information. We asked who and they said they could not tell us. I think by law they are required to do this if they are a credit organization but they insisted they did not have to give that.
Their sales person was very high pressure, making it sound like our business is threatened by not doing this. We contacted our only federal client and they said they had not check with them and would not be checking.
Our credit with Equifax is a matter of record for real credit checks and we have no debt so our rating is excellent. This intimidating sales approach should be unlawful and we have found other complaints about them on the Internet. Check them out. Supposedly they started in 2010 and have grown from 8 to 600 employees (Wikipedia). If this is how they do it, it is misleading salesmanship at best and extortion at its worst.
