Judy is the best, been following her longer than I can remember. I have pretty difficult hair to work with (it’s wavy, frizzy, & dry from heat damage), but Judy helps me manage it. She is attentive on how I want to style my hair and she gives good advice on how to take care of it. I go to school 2 hours away from Malden, but I still make the journey back for Judy.
The salon itself is modern and clean. The price is fair and the staff is friendly. I also recommend Lenny to wash your hair, he’s very kind.
Definitely give it a try.

This review is for Tony. I had a walk-​in appointment on a Thursday morning and was taken care of immediately. I wanted a simple haircut with layers and side bangs. Though his English is limited, he asked questions and checked in occasionally throughout the cut.
Tony is very thorough. He took his time with each layer of hair and made sure it was even. My hair feels so light and the layers are lovely. My first haircut at S.O. Hair Design was with Judy, but I like my cut with Tony much more. I’ll be back!
Price: $ 36 for wash, cut, and blowdry

After three trips I must say I like this place. First of all, the cuts are crisp, practical and modern. For the first time in a decade I changed my style. Very short sides and longer top. Kind of a North Korean style. The impact: Now it takes me only a minute to get ready in the morning.
Also, the place is very neat, but it is kind of pricy. Malden seems to approach Newbury Street prices. I guess I am willing to overpay for a good haircut. Especially, when it is close to home.

Beautiful & clean hair salon with ample street parking. They really take their time massaging your scalp when washing your hair. So relaxing. Go to Judy! She’s the best!

I took my daughter to S.O. Hair Design to get her hair done by Judy. We drove 45 minutes to get to this place and it was definitely worth it. We have been following Judy since her first day in Boston, Chinatown years ago. Boston were inconvenience trips due to traffics and parking but we love our hair stylist. We are glad that she found a new home at S.O. Hair Design in Malden. This place is breath of fresh air with bright modern interior design, staff are super friendly and everyone are very professional. Judy is by far our favorite and I recommend you give this place a try and see for yourself. Highly recommended!

I am writing this for my mom. she had her hair cut done with Judy yesterday and she went back to work today. All her colleagues made fun of her hair style and said it was so outdated. My mom was mad at the stylist because when she made her first cut on my mon’s hair, my mom knew that she was not going to get the hair style she wanted with Judy. The overall experience was so bad and my mom did not get the hairstyle she wanted yet she paid almost 50 bucks for it. My mom’s colleagues all said that you could get the same and a way better hairstyle at a much lower and reasonable price in Chinatown. Imagine paying for something that expensive yet one is still not satisfied with the product and the service, that feels sucks. well if you want to go there for a nice renovated salon, go try it. but if you want to get a fashionable hair style, then good luck.

Not a good hair salon to go to. The interior decoration is nice, but the skill of the hair stylist is not as good as I have expected. The hair style is outdated and the hair stylist does not understand the needs of the customers. Although the renovation is new, but the price is not worth it. Th hair style I got could easily be obtained in other salons for a lower price. The hairstylist, Judy, is very bad. She ruined my hair style and she failed to satisfy my needs. My hairstyle literally looked like a person who came from the old sixties. None of my co workers like my hairstyle and they said is outdated. In general, the price is high but the skill is low, not fashionable enough. In general, this salon is not recommended to go!!!

I’m a guy who doesn’t really care about hair styles as much. But stay away from Tony. This guy ignores everything you tell him. Originally I was going to put a 1 star, but I think by doing that, it isn’t fair to the entire business basing on one «stylist». The place is ok… nothing special.
