Comfort food at its best! The chicken is delicious!!! The portions are huge and the sides are tasty. I love meeting friends here for lunch. It’s always busy, but we seem to find a table anyways. The staff is friendly and you can get free drink refills. I love the green beans!!!

There is something about the chicken and rice soup. It’s pretty simple I suppose but they season it just right. I gave only 4 stars just because the chicken is not always moist and a tad dry at times. Everyone is very friendly and the food is served super quick. Again, I love soup of any kind but if I’ve got a cold it’s this or phở. Not enough room for large parties groups of 4 max if you wanna be comfortable.

There is no doubt about it, I love this place. When I lived here I got some roasted chicken almost weekly. We ate here twice while on vacation this week. My usual is the quarter dark with the roasted potatoes, green beans, and pita. Perfect, perfect, perfect. I could eat that stuff every day. I don’t know what they do to the chicken, but it is truly the best I’ve ever had. I did see on Unilocal that someone had gotten a side of feta and olives so tried that once and that was a nice side as well. My husband tried the gyro on our second visit and they do make a tasty gyro. But I am there for the chicken. Glad to see it’s still here and still doing well.

Delicious! I loved the atmosphere, being able to see into the kitchen, the décor, the friendliness, and of course the food. I’m not a big eater so I just got the chicken gyro. The gyro was probably one of the best I’ve had. The seasonings were Greek and delicious. I’m a huge fan of their taziky sauce. The pita bread was warm and fantastically seasoned. The chicken had good flavor to it but was dry(the reason for the 4 stars). I didn’t mind the dry meat because of how delicious everything was. I will go back again but get a lamb gyro instead. I highly recommend it.

Let me preface my review by saying, I did not try the chicken. Obviously chicken is what they’re known for, but I am not a big meat eater, so I passed on this. There are only a couple of meal options for vegetarians– the Greek salad, Mediterranean salad, hummus platter, or the vegetarian pita. I went with the Greek salad with a side of dolmades which are also meat free and can be purchased individually. The salad was pre made(boo), but I will say it was a pretty decent pre made salad and it was relatively fresh. Lettuce, chunks of tomato and feta, olives, and potato salad with dressing options on the side. The potato salad was very good. Large chunks of potato with a nice mustardy taste. The dolmades were also good and lemony. The other members of my table ordered pita sandwiches which were large and looked good. It would have given an additional star if there was a vegetarian protein option. Falafel, bean salad, or even just chickpeas? Food was delivered quickly, which makes this a good workday lunch option. The restaurant is small and it seems like there are one too many tables inside, but we didn’t have any issues. My meal was just under $ 12, which seemed a little steep for a pre made salad, 3 small dolmades, and an unsweetened tea. I think the chicken is what keeps people coming back, but since that isn’t my cup of tea, I would likely venture somewhere else.

I have lost my appetite more than once as some of the workers do not wear gloves while handling the food. Occasionally they will wear one glove and the other hand without the glove is still touching my food. I have been here numerous times and there is a worker there that constantly wipes her nose and keeps the rag in her hand at the register, this really grosed me out, I won’t eat here until they practice safe food handling. I would watch where their hands go before you eat the food.

My husband and I have been dying to try this chicken place. They clam to have the best chicken in town but despite the very Friendly atmosphere and making you feel like family as soon as you walk in, I feel guilty to report the chicken is very dry in both the chicken platter and the chicken gyro we had. I guess that is probably because they leave a lot of it out under a heat lamp instead of cooking fresh. It is a real shame because the place is really cute.

The BEST Gyro in town! Freshly made, lots of flavor, and never disappointing. I compare all other gyro’s to Athena’s. Working in Maitland affords me the time to stop by once a week. It’s always bustling here around lunch hour: not the unbearable but more like, their food is good, I’ll wait 2 minutes in line to order. They’re also known for their roasted chicken. Very flavorful and slow roasted in house. Every so often, I’ll do roasted chicken, insanely delicious potatoes, and veggies. However, I can’t break away from the gyro.

Ordered the gryo! It came up quick, hardly any waiting. It was filling! Nice looking & big! It was delicious! Very sloppy, have to eat in the store, not in your truck or car. Restaurant is clean, bathroom is clean. Staff are friendly! Would stop back again, plenty of parking out front.

I found this place coming home from work, have eating here a few times. Mostly get the chicken platters with is served with two side I like the potato salad and the zucchini with the dinner roll. All nice and fresh, free refulls on ice tea. I also had the tuna salad sandwiches. I enjoyed very much. Hoping that you give this place a try.

The chicken is way better than the rotisserie chicken from Publix. You can even get a whole chickens to go. If you get the items separately it’s a little pricey, but the quality is worth it. The Greek salad is awesome. And the more feta the betta!!!

This place is the BOMB! Their chicken is so juicy and has so much flavor that I can’t resist not eating the skin. Their gyros are pretty good too! Lots of flavor and no words for the sid salad. Probably my favorite dish of the menu. You gotta try this local place. Everything is delicious and the staff is super friendly.

I stopped in here this afternoon on my way home from the cinema. As always, I get the half chicken platter with two sides. And as always, I get the roasted potatoes. But on this visit, I tried the zucchini in tomatoes. Along with pita bread and a medium drink, my total came to $ 10.52. And the chicken is still the best, in my opinion. There are several sides available, but the roasted potatoes are fantastic. There is a station at the end of the service counter that has utensils, napkins, and condiments. There are also bottles of barbecue sauce and hot sauce to add to your meal. But take my advice, the chicken that Athena serves is well seasoned. Try it as is. Your taste buds will be satisfied. Service is always fast and friendly, the food is the best, and the dining area is always clean. If you are ever on U.S. 17 – 92 in Maitland, do yourself a favor and stop in. They boast«the best chicken». And I am not going to argue about that. The only thing that I am mad about is that I didn’t bring some chicken home for later!

Always a good place to stop by for a quick lunch, I usually go for their roasted chicken with two sides; my absolute two favorites are their roasted potatoes or pita and hummus. But you can also choose other items such as green beans, cole slaw salad, rice, beans… etc.

The Gyro meat is frozen and bland. Green Beans taste canned. Our Greek Salad had potato salad remains on the bottom of the bowl, leaves us to think the bowl wasn’t properly washed prior. Rolls are dry. Watched the cook handling food with no gloves(handling as in his fingers touching the food). The chicken and roasted potatoes are good, but nothing else is.

Since I was craving chicken today, I dropped by Athena and it did not disappoint. I ordered a ¼ Chicken Dark with a side of potatoes and pasta salad and the chicken was definitely the star of the show. Their chicken is very juicy and filled with flavor. I regret not getting a half chicken because the portion was pretty small which definitely didn’t fill me up. The full roasted chickens cost $ 8.49 so I plan on dropping by one day and taking one home. I had lunch at around 11am and the place was empty so I was able to avoid the lunch crowd. The restaurant is spacious and extremely clean which is always a positive.

Very good on all counts. I’m no Greek, have never been there except while playing Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis on DOS. In that game you go to both Thera and Crete, but Indy never eats anything. For eating Greek, this place is a really good pick. I know this because a little bird with whom I went lived there. Apparently this is the only place she’s seen real Greek stuffed tomatoes. Their Greek salads(she said) were authentic, not the flaccid American approximation. I got a half chicken and devoured the whole thing with only a fork. Also, the hummus and pita plate, which was a LOT of pitas. Not a bad thing. It’s a good way to enjoy your meal, while telling yourself that it was good for you(simultaneously wiping the pita butter on your pants). In the end, I got a shitload of nourishment and still felt pretty good about my choices that day. A hearty meal for two ran about $ 18. I did get a little cattitude at the counter. The lady seemed stressed out or overworked… hell, some people go places for the cattitude, places like Paris, where everyone(I hear) is a total dick. Same with New York, which I didn’t find to be true, but people come back from there raving about the real NYC gruffness. It reminded me that not everywhere is Panera Bread. Some places are still Walmart. Lady had cattitude.

Stopped in for lunch with a gf on our way for pedicures in the same plaza. When it comes to Mediterranean«fast food», I just stick to what I know. This time wasn’t any different. I ordered spinach pie, dolma & hummus with pita triangles. I was pleasantly surprised at how fresh & delicious everything tasted. The hummus had just the right amount of garlic & other seasonings, the pita was warm, soft & delish, their dolma(stuffed grape leaves) were very fresh & not mushy. The spinach pie was HUGE! Made for a great snack later on. I plan on returning to try their signature chicken & gyros.

I feel like Athena’s is the dependable Maitland meal spot. You go in, order, pay, pick up food, and then eat or leave. If you don’t feel like waiting, then go ahead and place a to-go order. There’s a separate register for designated pick up orders! There’s a great variety to their menu with their roasted chicken being one of the popular dishes. All wraps come a la carte with the option of adding sides for a few dollars more. They even have a dinner meal that comes in handy for those nights you don’t want to cook. Side note, I’m definitely a fan of their roasted potatoes and Mediterranean sides! Fast, cheap, delicious, and filling. Go for it!
