Had breakfast and food was great! Waitstaff isn’t as polished as Joeys however the food made up for it. I would like my syrup in a container instead or the Log Cabin bottle but I know I’m only one person. We will be back on our next visit.

If you’re looking for the view and good food, go for it. Beautiful eatery, could have more on staff. Prices vary $ 8-$ 10 a plate.

Great food, especially breakfast. Friendly folks, no waiting, worth the drive from crowded Maggie Valley. Coffee fantastic, blueberry pancakes excellent! !

Driving back to Maggie valley from Nantahala river and needed some food. Place was great. Great menu, bar, and hospitality. Was greeted by the owner who gave us great recipe for trout we caught to cook later. Got fried pickles with ranch… very tasty. She also recommended another bar in town to eat and watch nba game. Best part was the porch with beautiful view of the valley…

We tried to stop for breakfast based on the good reviews. The posted hours say open at 8AM. We arrived at 8:20 and it was closed. This really should be zero stars since we didn’t get to eat there.

I just feel like the waitress should warn you if a widely-known dish is just«their version» of whatever you’re ordering. Maybe it’s my fault because I saw«egss benny», assumed it was Eggs Benedict, and ordered it without reading the description. What came out of the kitchen was a couple of english muffins with a slice of cheap lunch meat, a Kraft Single, and a barely-cooked egg on top. The Corned beef hash was too salty to eat, and the biscuits were like lead. Our waitress, however, was a complete sweetheart.

We stopped in for an early lunch/late breakfast during the week. It wasn’t busy at all and we were seated and served pretty quickly. The menu was kind of confusing, I think it had been put together backwards but I quickly spotted what I wanted. I got the fried chicken and while it wasn’t the absolute best I’ve ever had, it was pretty darn good. The view is really nice here and the staff is very friendly. I am sure I will be back the next time I am in the area.

This is my family’s favorite place for breakfast in Maggie Valley. Don’t wait in that stupid line at Joey’s! The Mountaineer has THEBEST pancakes in this area. And amazing hashbrowns. The owners are super nice people and always take great care of us. This place is the best kept secret for great breakfast.

I couldn’t find a review on Unilocal for the Mountaineer Restaurant, even though it’s been there since the late 1970s at least. From 1978 until the middle 1980’s I ate there every summer while attending conferences at Lake Junaluska. In those days the Mountaineer was a popular restaurant with a wonderful buffet with delicious foods such as fried chicken, chicken, barbecue, southern cooked vegetables etc. Today was Hubby’s first visit there, and I probably built it up too much in anticipation. The buffet is gone — maybe long gone. The only server working there this evening, Susie, said other customers have told her there used to be a buffet. Roy ordered a cheeseburger and I ordered a grilled cheese sandwich and cup of chili, which Susie’s husband prepared back in the kitchen. There was one other family eating in the restaurant while we were there. The window at our table afforded us a view of beautiful mountains with changing leaves. Susie was very pleasant and attentive, and our food was good, but the experience just didn’t live up to the nostalgia of my memory of the Mountaineer Restaurant.
