History
Established in 2011.
The original Luigi’s Pizzeria opened in 1997 at the corner of King and Main on Capital Square. It consisted of two distinct and very different dining rooms, but both lent a traditional, authentic Italian air to the overall ambiance of the restaurant. A popular restaurant known for its great food, casual charm and good value, Luigi’s remained open for seven years. Melanie Horzuesky managed the restaurant for most of that time, and it’s there that she met Bill Horzuesky when she hired him as Luigi’s chef.
Bill and Mel went on to get married and decided to revisit Luigi’s concept in 2011 and opened a Westside version. Today’s Luigi’s offers refined style and cheerful charm, though its true focus continues to be a scrumptious menu that is at once sophisticated and accessible, bursting with flavor from the freshest, highest quality ingredients, yet never budget busting. In fall of 2012, we also developed an economical catering menu and started home delivery service. Welcome to Luigi’s!
Meet the Business Owner
Matthew D.
Business Owner
Matthew grew up in Bethesda, MD/Washington D.C. and earned a degree in Business Administration from Georgetown University. While working in restaurants during college, Matthew developed a passion for working in the service industry. He fell in love with the energy and variety of interactions that working in a restaurant provided. He also really enjoyed the strong contrast of working in a restaurant versus working in a typical office job. Taking care of customers and the people who work in his restaurants are Matthew’s top priority. He strives to provide an enjoyable workplace for his employees and an optimal dining experience for his customers whether they are dining in, or enjoying Luigi’s takeout/delivery services. When Matthew isn’t working he enjoys spending time with his wife and two sons. He also flies and races quadcopters, and he collects license plates and bottle caps.
