History

Established in 2009.

CTRL+shift was founded in Madison, WI by three friends from opposite ends of the country who saw the computer service industry with all its misinformation, secrets, price gouging, and mistreatment of customers, and thought they could do it better.

Business Owner

The inner-​workings of computers was a hobby for me all the way through grade school. Something about these devices enticed me and I felt compelled to fiddle with and invariably break them, and fix them, and break them again, and so on. Eventually it occurred to me that a professional future could emerge from this activity.

I held several computer tech jobs during high school and after. I was a member of the student IT staff at my university and the lead technician at a local repair outfit in the years following. I was never really satisfied though by how the business was run and my role in it. I wanted to call the shots and try to run a different kind of company. To that end, I reconnected with some tech-​oriented friends from school and we founded CTRL+shift
