Barriques

My favorite coffee shop in town! I love the atmosphere, and the coffee is great. Sometimes I wish they had more food options, but overall I love this place. I always seem to get the most work done here.

I only stopped in briefly, but was impressed by what I saw. Plenty of seating, lots of people working on laptops so presumably plenty of outlets, and the beer, wine and spirits selection is outstanding. Full food menu. There’s even a tap beer bar in the back. I’m a fan of Barriques in general, and will be back when I can stay longer.
One note, though: green tea should not be brewed with scaldingly hot water. It would be nice if the temperature needs of various teas were taken into account rather than all being prepared using one blisteringly hot temperature, so hot it requires two cardboard sleeves around the cup.

I love Barriques so much! The people are so friendly and are always willing to help out each and every customer. The food is absolutely spectacular and expertly prepared. I enjoy waking up and spendings morning at a Barriques store. The quiet environment allows me to study and be focused for any upcoming exams I may have. I love how quickly all of my orders are prepared and how delicious they all taste. I couldn’t ask for a better place to spend my time. o

Stop by for brunch. Ordered an avocado Jack and a small latte. Completely satisfied. The avocado Jack is great!

Coffee shops can be «too coffee shop» sometimes, trying to be hip and working too hard. I think Barriques does pretty well at avoiding pretentiousness. This Monroe location features locals ranging from college kids studying to older couples reading books to young families playing board games. In the back they have a varied and respectable wine/​booze selection for sale, as well as a tasting bar for visiting vendors. Their small snacks and coffee is standard, but the atmosphere and friendliness of barristas makes the space a great stop for a chill night out.

Awesome space! Perfect to meet with people or hang out solo with a good book. The baristas seemed nice and the service was quick. Also a great spot to stop by after a nice afternoon in the park across the street. My four stars aren’t five because of the food. The food was okay… But the quiche was pretty bland. Then again I’m mostly there for the coffee anyways :).

Good place for coffee and breakfast. Nice selection of wines. If you sign up for their emailing list, you get discount emails and dates for wine tastings.
Occasionally, they take their sweet time in making the coffee. Longest wait I had was 10 min, without anyone else getting drinks in front of me, to get my cappuccino.
Overall, pretty good place to get my morning fix.

I love, love, LOVE this Barrique’s location. The person I was meeting ran late, so I perused the aisles of (reasonably priced) wine. The selection is great. Friendly staff, and the coffee is pretty awesome. There is plenty of room to get comfortable, set up your computer, and enjoy your Joe. In the words of the Governator, I’ll be back.

Barriques is a solid three-​star coffee joint. They would get a higher rating from me, but they can be wildly inconsistent among locations and even baristas.
It’s Thanksgiving and I’m just glad to find an open local coffee shop. 4-​Shotter and a cowboy cookie. I’ll survive the rest of the day now. Today’s latte, a bit foamy but otherwise solid.

Pleasant liquor selection of hard to finds for a college town. Great place to go if half your group wants to drink and half want goodcoffee

This café is pretty unique; it is actually a wine bar café. The environment is nice, the food is fresh and delicious and the drinks are just awesome!
Be sure to try their liquor coffees. I got their irish coffee! It was good and strong! Definitely needed whipped cream on top!
Their avocado jack wrap was very fresh and delicious! Also healthy! I am planning to go there more often! Don’t miss it!

Iced coffee is unbelievably good. However, the internet has been pretty spotty lately so I’ve started going to Crescendo instead.

Not my favorite Barriques location, but I do enjoy the bright interior.
It’s just a bit too loud at times, and can get really cold during the winter with people coming in and out of the front door.
Buuuuuut, they do have wine and beer tastings all the time, and while I don’t consider myself an alcoholic, I do consider myself an-​enjoyer-​of-​fine-​alcoholic-​drinks-​at-​all-​times-​of-​the-​day kind of person.

WINE TASTINGS = OFF THE CHAIN.
I went last Saturday PM and for $ 12 had a super awesome experience in their beautiful new digs. We tested out 8 different wines which retail from $ 7.49 to $ 34.99. They have different tastings every week; this Friday and Saturday they’re doing scotch! What a great way to taste a variety of wines and liquors and walk away with a bit more knowledge.

Stopped in here during a quick drive through Madison just before they closed, which is always an invitation for seeing employees at their most annoyed. But these Madisonians (is that what they are called?) were so helpful and positive in spite of the late hour. The espresso drinks were very well done, which is all you can really ask for in a coffee stop. I see no reason to not try them again!

Barriques on Monroe has always been one of my favorite «office work» spots. As a person who works from home, the free parking (next street over!), outlets galore, great wifi connection, tasty coffee and Mediterranean Plate keep me coming in!
But now— with the new space, so clean and bright, I’m completely in love! Everything I’ve ever enjoyed about Barriques but with a face lift! There is now a nice bar area to enjoy a beer or glass of wine and I feel like the tables are less cramped.

Stopped by most recently on Saturday for a spot of tea and to do some people watching.

— Tables need to be wiped-​down more often

I speak only about the wine. OK, two quick coffee things: good fresh roasted beans and cold-​brewed (Toddy) extract for their iced coffee. Back to the wine.
It’s taken me a while to warm to Barriques. I’ve been circling through all the usual haunts. Bottom-​feeding at Trader Joe’s, checking out the specials at Steve’s, grabbing unusual stuff at Woodmans.
I’ve always appreciated their $ 10 wine wall. It helps move wine to an everyday beverage instead of a «fine dining» only treat, something that the Midwest sorely needs to do. You’ll find something you’ll like and it will be drinkable and won’t blow your budget. The rest of their selection is well-​considered and there are plenty of excellent wines under $ 20 for a definite step-​up in quality.
I finally joined their wine club. They pick a $ 10 bottle for you every month (which pays for the membership), and then you get discounts on 6-​bottles or mixed cases. I just picked up my first pick, a very nice Pinotage from S. Africa. I never would have tried it otherwise and it was only $ 10. You also get $ 2 bucks off their wine tastings. I’ve been to two so far and they’ve both been well worth it.

Wine tasting for $ 14; wide range of wine qualities. Not much of a red wine drinker so all the wines kind of tasted very similar to me :(but other people were raving about the «higher quality» wines we tasted, so there you go. ALSO, this place uses Belly and I just happened to have collected enough points for a free crab dip… wine tasting and crab dip heyaaaaaaa!
To end my review, I have to say. Any time I go to a coffee shop I think «could I work here?». No. Maybe I would get a different feel if I came during the day hours, but it didn’t have the right feel anyhow. Come here for the wine, go to the Barriques by the capitol for some java and some concentration.

I usually ignore stars on here and go straight for the meat, the review itself, so I would urge you to do the same.

2. You don’t have to sign a CC merchant copy.

4. Get a slice of pumpkin chocolate chip bread. Really.

1. Been three times, each time tables were dir-​tay. (That’s dirty with attitude).
2. Floor needs a scrubbin’.
3. After I wash my hands in the men’s room, I want to wash my hands.

My vote… go for the iced coffee, wine wall, pumpkin chocolate chip bread, wine wall, wine wall, and the wine wall and take your goods to go. Yo.
