We took our kids here on a Tuesday after seeing their advertising kids-eat-free on that night. Only three items on the kids menu are actually free though. Staff was nice and the inside was super cozy on a cold November night! Sushi was decent but I’ve definitely had better. The rice was too warm and sticky. The hibachi was good and the kids loved their french fries. Prices are a little steep for the area. Will probably go back but not for the sushi.

This place is delicious! The food here is definitely authentic and tastes amazing. I have had a lot of experience with Japanese food: I’ve been to Japan, I speak Japanese, I have a lot of Japanese friends, and I cook Japanese food often. I can say with no qualms that this place is one of the more authentic Japanese restaurants in the area. A lot of the food they have here is home style Japanese food, but the menu still includes plenty of food for kids and people who don’t typically enjoy Japanese cuisine. One of my favorite things to get here for an appetizer is the Agedashi-tofu. The outside is lightly battered and fried and placed in a soup of great sauce. Another favorite is the curry rice. The chicken isn’t any kind of processed chicken chunks. You can tell the chicken is made fresh. The sushi here is also pretty great too. If you’re not the adventurous type of eater, no worries! They have really good grilled chicken and steak with rice and vegetables(which you can substitute for french fries), which is similar to Japanese steakhouse cuisine. The décor inside is also pretty amazing. It’s very quaint and aesthetically pleasing. The wait time for food can be a little long at times, but that’s how you know the food is great. Definitely worth any wait.

This place was suprisingly good. It is in what looks like an old taco bell building. The inside was nicer than a taco bell but was not as upscale as some other japanese places I’ve been to. The place is obviously about the food. The owner personally came to our table twice to see how we were doing. Our server was very friendly and suggested a good local beer. Our server told us that they are working to bring in all local beers for their tap. I had a sushi dinner for dinner. I chose avacado rolls(my favorite) and kentucky rolls because I was intrigued. The onion soup it came with was very good. The sushi was good, a nice balance of ingredients. The kentucky roll was different but good, it is fried chicken with teriyaki sauce rolled in seaweed and rice and then rolled in panko and deep fried for a little bit. The abience was friendly and very local, the other patrons were pleasant and said bye to us when we left. I’d definetly go back if I was ever in the area again.

I have been wanting to try Koto out for a while and today was that day. I went for lunch, keeping an open mind because it is not very impressive from the outside. The inside is small but quaint, the overall atmosphere was nice. Nothing overly exciting but it was clean and the people were friendly. I ordered the spicy tuna roll and the volcano roll. Both were very good, but my volcano has to much sauce on it for my taste. I was able to scrape most of it off, so no big deal. The reason for my 4 star rating and not a 5 is due to two things. They do not have low sodium soy sauce and I felt the price of the soda was a little high for fountain. My overall bill for lunch was $ 15.02. More than I normally spend for lunch, but it is sushi and not McDonalds. I suggest giving Koto a try!

I ordered the hibachi steak dinner. The food was very mediocre, cold, and tasteless and for 12 bucks the portion was small. I like the $ 6 Fast food Japanese places much better. The people were friendly that was the only real plus.

I join my fellow Unilocalers in singing the praises of Koto. While it is not very promising from the outside it is a great Japanese restaurant, and not one of those local«hibachi» places that try to p[ass themselves off as Japanese– this is the real deal. We had the«Sushi Bento Box» and it was outstanding both as to quality, quantity and price. The Japanese food here meets or exceeds that served at King’s Island, which I consider the best Asian food in the Lynchburg area. The menu is extensive with several kinds of noodles, many forms of sushi, sashimi and other dishes, in addition to the usual teriyaki beef and chicken«hibachi» for your less adventurous friends. I had one criticism– the crab in the crab and cucumber salad was a little dry. No other complaints and not significant enough to cut the 5-star rating. Service is efficient and for the most part knowledgeable. If you have technical questions the chef/owner is often circulating in the dining room. There’s a ««Happy Hour» in the early evening. There is a kid’s menu. There are about twelve tables for four, so larger groups can be accommodated but not easily. Background music is Japanese. Be warned that sushi is not available on Monday, I believe. Call in advance and confirm if sushi is your goal. Free parking. A large truck outside indicated that Koto will cater your party and do the cooking on the site. Delivered Japanese food loses a lot on the trip.

KOTOGRILL is open for business! Wake up Unilocal!Simply great food! Perhaps the best Sushi Bar in region. Recently remolded– great Japanese décor, new menu, very friendly service. The owner, George, makes his own sauces. George had a role in starting every Japanese restaurant in Lynchburg. KOTOGRILL is a rare treasure. Give it a try — you’ll love it!

We actually went the Koto on Wards Road last week. I have not been in that place in over 11 years. My daughter wanted to go because they advertise a free meal on your birthday. I must say it was very good. It was very entertaining and the food was very good. The waitress were very nice to us and we just might go back in the future.

Remember when Kyoto’s in Lynchburg used to be good? Well, the owner’s sold the place a while ago and opened up this place in Madison Heights. Same idea, just you have to tell your own jokes while waiting for them to cook the food. Best sushi in Madison Heights by far, and in my top two in the Lynchburg area. They also serve the typical Hibachi style Japanese food for you to drown in yum-yum sauce. There are also a few authentic Japanese dishes like yakisoba and udon. They can get busy almost any night of the week, so be prepared for a short wait if you want to eat at peak hours, but they have a bar so you can order a beer/saki/glass of wine. Oh yeah, they have a 15.99 all you can eat sushi, and a 6.99 for 2 roll special.
