How in the world is this place still open. I mean not to be rude or anything but it has a lot of customers and the food isn’t good at all. All greasy, and not even with a taste of fresh cooked. The service is not good at all, and everything is charged. Soda is in a can, extra cookies are charged, and the wait time is longer than usual restaurants. The food we got was nasty no lie, I tasted so much chineese foods and this one is the worst so far in my eyes and taste. Nobody wanted to eat anything in reality, the chop suey was yucky. I wont come back here ever!

I’m not one to be picky with food, but I have to say today’s plate here was one of the worst I had in my life without exaggeration. I ordered the lunch special that comes with pork chowmein, sweet and sour chicken, fried rice and an eggroll. Today was my very first time eating here(and last). Prices are really low so I was happy about that, now I see why. The fried rice and chicken seemed so old, the chicken was super hard with an extra nasty after taste. The chowmein was flavorless, and the eggroll was a ball of over fried god knows what! Very little stuffing inside. The only ok thing was the freshness of the veggies on the chowmein. I don’t like posting these kinds of posts, but maybe the restaurant need to read them so they can do a better job.

I have come here many times as a child and decided to come here today to reminisce. As a child I loved it… as an adult the food is bland.(Maybe thats why I liked it as a child). It was edible. The restaurant is clean and they have been open for many years. The lunch special is good portion. The sweet and sour pork hardly had any meat in it… that was disappointing. …

Food was not fresh, ordered Orange chicken for the kids, the food was sooo hard, batter with no chicken, chicken was so tough, hard to cut, the onions in it tasted like thy had gone bad, something weird was, we ate in and the lady brought us that food in a Togo box, HUGE pieces of cooked orange with black spots, the dish was cold, she could have our the dish on a plate but she didn’t, it was a tiny portion and just old food, disgusting, Generals chicken was over sauced and poorly seasoned also cold. I ordered a shrimp Kung pow, I ate a shrimp and it was raw! The peanuts weren’t cooked also, whomever cooked the dish has 0 experience with the timing, I complained that the shrimp was raw and the cook had a hissy fit, I asked for them to cool it a bit longer, I ended up sick to my stomach, also ordered a vegetable chow main which was also cold, the pasta hadn’t been cooked throughly and the sauce was added separately, not cooked together. This is by far one of the worst experiences I’ve had, I didn’t want to get confrontational because my wife and kids were there and after the way the cook acted when I told him the shrimp was raw I knew it was not gonna end well asking for a refund, we left our plates mostly untouched. I will put a complaint with the health department because the food made me sick, you have to pay for the food upfront! I mean, that was a red flag right there, please avoid it. Find another place with better food

So I’m born and raised in madera and I’ve been coming here since I was knee high to my mom’s thigh. I usually get the broccoli beef with noodles and I’ve never been disappointed. I would recommend doing a to go order, only because it works better as a takeout only restaurant. I wish they would switch over and do only take out… The lady at the counter always remembers me and she is such a sweetie poo. For all the reviews calling her rude, try to remember that she is doing her best. She works at a busy restaurant in madera California… a town of rude people so… cut her some slack and remember to say thank you to her! Excuse me… I’m gonna go finish eating my delicious broccoli beef.

I can’t even give this place any stars but in order to write this review I must. It was just so awful my dog wouldn’t even eat it. The orange chicken wasn’t even orange chicken. Closest thing to it was the ACTUALORANGE they put in the box. Noodles were burnt to a crisp and greasier then anything I’ve ever had. Rice was just awful. Waste of money.

We ordered sweet & sour chicken, shrimp fried rice, chicken fried rice, chicken in foil wrap, wrong tongs, almond chicken, chicken chow mien, Mongolian beef, and chicken salad for a group of 10. Tons of food. We ordered too much but everyone enjoyed themselves. I personally don’t really like this place. So if it was up to me I’d give it 2 stars but when my children eat and don’t fuss about the food, well they earned 3 stars. The price was also reasonable $ 80 for everything plus drinks.

How could a restaurant be this terrible? I have no the idea but this place has found a way. I thought Chinese restaurants were fairly similar for the most part, then this place came along. I went On 3/7, the lo mein had the burnt flavorless noodles, had to mix in everything yourself. Took a bite of the chicken and at this point decided to throw it away before I became extremely I’ll and go find a taqueria. I would go and ask for a refund but they don’t look like they believe in customer service.

This place use to be a no brainer when anyone asked where the best Chinese food was(after The Village closed that is) and now I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone. I ordered the batter dipped shrimp which was a tiny shrimp dipped in a ton of batter and when I asked for shrimp sauce they said they would have to charge. Seriously? The food is bland the customer service is bad. I will not go back, who knows they may try and charge me to use their door to get in the place

Me and my wife love Hong Kong! They are the best Chinese food in Madera! We probably eat here at least once a week and are never disappointed! Regardless of what all the haters say, you should eat here

My favorite place !!! My favorites are Won Ton Soup and Pot Stickers. I have tried other chinese food places in town and always come back to Hong Kong. Good food, good service, and the price is right. I always substitue pan fried noodles for rice.

My family and I have been going here since 2003. Easily one of the best chinese food joints in town. I recommend getting their fried rice and chow mein. We always get take out. The prices are pricier compared to other chinese food joints but you get better food and large portions.

I’ve been looking for the best Chinese food in Madera and after eating at the Hong Kong Restaurant, my search continues. This is the second place I’ve tried since the old Village Restaurant closed and while it was not horrible, it wasn’t decent either. The restaurant was dusty. The plants were dusty. The lights were dusty. The fluorescent lights were exposed with no covers. It was your average mom and pop fast food joint. Not any where near the $ 10 plus per person our bill came out to. When I asked for hot sauce the lady gave me a dirty Jell-O type cup with sauce and a spoon and a cutout lid. It was sort of disgusting. When our food came out it was on Styrofoam plates. When my soda was empty, it was another dollar for the refill. We had to pay for our food in advance and they expected us to determine the tip before we received any service. I felt like a black man in a Korean neighborhood. This was not the place for me. There are four other places in town that I’ll be checking out. I won’t be back at this one.

First of all I may have been born in Madera but I have not actually lived there in nearly 40 years so I am not up on where to eat when visiting my elderly mother. I asked her and my step-father where they went for Chinese food as Mom wanted Chinese for dinner but didn’t want to go out to eat it. At 85 I figure she had the right to chose. They said there was one just off of Cleveland by the CLS. So I went there. My complaints are as follows: 1. I waited nearly an hour after ordering and paying for my take out. Later I was told my order took so long because it was a special order. I replied that I was not told it would be a special order as I chose directly off of the menu on the wall. While waiting a man came in for his order which he had called in an hour before and he had to wait another 20 minutes or so before it was ready. I asked a woman waiting for her order if they were always so slow and she said they were. 2. The food lacked flavor and was mostly noodles. They must have given us a couple of pounds of them for just three people. 3. i did not like the rice and neither did my Mom. But what the heck, she doesn’t like anything. 3. The Almond Chicken has no almonds and very little chicken in it. 4. The fried shrimp was almost all breading and very little shrimp. 5. The sweet and sour sauce was terrible. So if you want lots and lots of mediocre food then this is your place. Otherwise go somewhere else.

Second time here, got the same Hong Kong lunch meal… I don’t recommend the fried rice. I do really like the bbq pork!!! But most things are very fried… Even the noodles.

There are booths/tables in Hong Kong, but this is definitely a take-out restaurant. Ordered the basic lunch plate; very ordinary, but I just kinda felt like loading up on carbs, so what the heck. Friend had the green beans w/beef which looked pretty good. Hubby had a chicken salad, again, it was okay, but not the best I’ve had. It took my hunger away and that was about it.

Went in during lunch hour to order out. Service was good, food came quickly and was priced reasonably, but the taste was lacking. Ordered Cashew Nut Chicken which was on the greasy side and needed flavor. Had to pour half a bottle of Kikkoman on it. Overall, it’s a good place if you need something cheap to eat while on the go, but if you’re big on taste then you’re better off going to any Chinese restaurant in Merced.
