Specialties
The Rookery was voted the «Best Burger» in Macon in the 2012 11th Hour Readers Choice Awards. With options to order any burger on our menu as black angus, turkey, veggie, or locally raised, grass fed, Rocking Chair Ranch beef, you can understand why.
We also pride ourselves on using fresh local meats, dairy, and produce whenever we can. Even our selection of handspun milkshakes are made from ice cream and milk from Southern Swiss Dairy in Swainsboro.
From our experience local is always better.
History
Established in 1976.
The Rookery was founded in 1976 and quickly became one of downtown Macon’s favorite gathering places.
In 2009 The Rookery was purchased by Wes Griffith and Chad Evans. They began to expand on The Rookery’s legacy by making the restaurant a family friendly dining experience, offering fresh local meats, produce, and dairy.
In 2012 Griffith and Evans began The Moonhanger Group, opening their second restaurant, Dovetail, on the second floor of The Rookery. They also rolled in the banquet facilities and catering services of The Armory Ballroom.
