I’m not gown lie, I was borderline scared to try this place. Now, here I am totally shaming myself for letting the outside appearance/location get the best of me for all these years. I must 1st say, Wing Wong please accept my humble apology. And now I will do you right. Seriously, I almost really dislike myself for just now trying this place. All these years I’ve lived in the area, searching for a Chinese place to junk out on like a hooked addict. Repeatedly ordering from places, only to like, but not enough to want to really return. And Wing Wongs was just waiting patiently for me to give them a chance. Sigh… shame on me. Ok, so here it is. The place is not so good from the outside. In a run down strip mall that is well, just so damn sad. The sign is half broken, the inside isn’t for dining, nor is it really that appealing. And straight CASHONLY, no ATM in sight anywhere. I called in carryout. Quart won ton soup, Szechuan chicken combo, and for my 1st time ever Kung Bo chicken combo.(man am I glad we have leftovers as I’m writing this) Guy said 20 minutes, 20 minutes it was, which seemed«long» compared to most«10 minute» Chinese times. When I arrived I better understood the 20 minute wait. No joke, this place is a 1 man show. Wing Wong is actually the guys name. The owner, the cook, the everything. This man is THEMAN. And his food, WOW his food, its like I was family. My food was AMAZING! I nearly wanted to tell my hubby to shut up because he couldn’t stop complimenting on everything about it, I was just trying to savor every bite myself. The chicken was legit, fresh, tasty, juicy chicken. The veggies, perfect. Crisp and yet tender, with bite and vibrant in color, and TONS of them in a variety. The fried rice. OHMANTHATRICE. Lets just say I now in my 36 years of life officially know what true fried rice is. This mans wok must be blessed because I’ve never tasted fried rice like this. And he hooks it up with a great deal of fresh green onion, bean sprouts and egg. The won ton soup I killed the whole thing but one dumpling my hubby stole. 6 dumplings in the quart and tons of book Choy. The broth was soul soothing and completed me like yoga. I wana tell you more, but you probably stopped reading a while ago. Go here. Forget what the outside/inside looks like. Have some cash in your hand and make your belly happy. No joke, I’ve already got my order in my head for carry out after the gym tomorrow.

I just ordered Szechuan chicken, Sesame chicken, Sweet and sour chicken, fried noodles and steamed vegetables for my family. I must say, it was all amazing !! We were completely satisfied !!! We’re new in the area and most definitely will be back to enjoy the offerings of Wing Wongs soon. If you’ve never been there, we highly recommended trying them.

Where to even being? I grew up at 21 and Hayes so Wing Wong was a staple in our family’s carry out nights. I have been to hundreds of Chinese restaurants and carry-out joints everywhere from Michigan to Chicago to NYC. I now live in San Francisco, which is one of the Foodiest cities in the US. I can HONESTLY whole heatedly tell you that Wing Wong, this dinky little hole in the wall family owned carry out restaurant in Macomb Michigan is by far THE best Chinese food I have ever had. This is by no means The RItz Carlton, It is hot, usually with no air conditioning in the summer. There are maybe two dine in tables available, the décor hasn’t changed since the first day I stepped in the door, and i’am almost positive he still does all the math on a calculator and pen and paper. But it’s authentic. Mr. Wong has been running this restaurant himself for as long as I have been alive, occasionally helped by family. His food is his own, There are no recipe books, or commercial guidelines. Its real and oh my word is it delicious. I really hope he shares his wonderful cooking styles with some of his kin and this place continues to operate because I definitely look forward to it every time I’m visiting. My personal favorites include the Almond Boneless Chicken, Beef and Mushroom and my all time favorite General Tso’s spicy chicken. All dishes come with a huge portion of rice. The Fried rice here is IMMACULATE. Egg Rolls are on point as well. You really don’t get food like this anywhere else. The Chicken is not deep friend so it really keeps an authentic unique taste and texture Truly one of a kind. I have been searching for a place to compare and have not even come remotely close. SO thank you Mr. Wong for being the best of the best, please continue to do what you do and don’t change ANYTHING! I hope to see you soon!

Mediocre Chinese food, impatient staff. Need I say more? Probably not, but I will. Ordered some carry out from here for a small gathering, we called back twice to add a few more items. When we went to pick up, the staff was very rushed. When we inquired about whether all the items were there since we had ordered them I’m separate calls, we were met with the answer«I don’t have time to look, you look it’s all there!» Lol. Amusing, but never thought I’d be inconveniencing someone by giving them my money! I could dismiss the hasty attitude if the food is up to par, but sorry to say that the chicken fried rice was a little flavorless and something about the chicken tasted off… I had to drown it in soy sauce just to stomach it. And speaking of drowning, the General tso’s chicken was swimming in the goopiest, fake-tasting gravy. It screamed MSG and high fructose corn syrup! The crab rangoon had no cream cheese, just dry Krab meat in a fried wonton. *SIGH* I’m over it.

Being new to the area, it was essential to find a legit Chinese carry out place. This is an OK to below OK choice with a straight forward menu, cash only to keep prices low, and it’s the owner who takes your order, cooks it, and hands you the food. While the General Tsao’s chicken was mediocre(the sauce was kind of a gelatinous sweet & sour sauce), the chicken fried rice and egg roll was on point. The egg drop soup was bland, and could use some salt. The crab wontons were dry on the inside and only had the imitation crabmeat, with little to no cream cheese! I may try a few more dishes over time to get a better feel for this place. Portions are large. The lunch specials can be shared by 2 people and dinners can be shared by 3 moderately hungry people. If you need some fast Chinese and live within 1 mile of here, I would consider it a try, but be warned — I only enjoyed the chicken fried rice and egg roll from here.

One of the last surviving businesses in its strip mall, Wing Wong Chinese Food only takes cash and shows off a hand painted sign only visible from one direction of Hayes that simply states«Chinese Food.» A whiteboard above the register states«Special: Pan fried noodles. Delicious!» for at least a year now. It sounds like a mess but it’s simply a family owned business that is doing well enough. They survive because of the food, which is delicious and always prepared well. I’ve eaten here many times and had many different dishes, never have I been disappointed in the meal. From Egg Foo Young to Szechuan to General Tso, it’s always good. Time estimates for pickup are sometimes off, as there is only one cook and this is a small thriving business. Almost always the sauce of the take out overflows from the containers into the bag… which is terribly annoying but I’ve learned to appreciate the fact that in order to prevent this they could just give me less food… or I could drive slower. Whatever. 5/5, give Mr Wong some love and tip the help!

I tried Wing Wong yesterday and I thought it was just ok. I took one bite of the crab rangoons(they may call them something else on the menu) and gave the rest to my friend. I didn’t like them at all, the egg rolls were ok, just very one-dimensional. I felt like everything tasted the same, I had sweet and sour chicken, I kind of wish the sauce came on the side because by the time I got home the chicken was somewhat soggy. The reason I am giving them three stars, is because they were out of won ton soup and the owner made me some, which i thought was very nice. although, my won ton’s fell apart as I was trying to spoon them out, but still ok. all in all, I will probably keep looking for my favorite chinese take out place.

Very delicious and authentic Chinese cuisine. I was very pleased. My only regret is that the menu lacks vegetarian dishes ie, tofu, egg plant and/or seafood dishes other then shrimp. Otherwise, the food is delicious.

This place is the real deal. It certainly has character. It’s owned and operated by one guy: Mr. Wong, who does all the cooking. He has a few teenagers working the counter and phone, all of whom are impressively kind and helpful. The store itself is a classic hole in the wall. Tiny, only serves carry out, and only takes cash. One small whiteboard hangs over the counter advertising the same fried rice special for the past year. But all that matters is the food, and it is amazing. I have friends that now drive miles out of their way to get their Chinese food here. Our favorite dish is the Sesame Chicken, but everything we’ve had has been great.
