Food is fair for the prices they are asking for. I’ve honestly had a better tasting pizza from Jets… the management of that particular Shields lacks experience. Larry Fell, one of the managers, who was there that night, wasnt helpful, has no people skills, was rude and arrogant and he is the reason i will not go back to that place again! So beware when he is on duty!

I have been to this location many times. The burgers and Pizza are good, but… Beware! The younger wait staff is very good but the older ladies waiting on tables are the worst. To the point where they seem nasty and uncaring. They only honor their coupons if they have been attached to a previous carryout and are rude when explaining this as well. This is false advetising so beware! A better management could souve this problem to make this location an enjoyable dinning experience.

Shields is hands down best pizza in the area, Buddys is good, but Shields beats Buddys hands down! Cheese and sauce is amazing!

Was craving a Detroit Style Pizza, and had not yet tried this suburban Shields. Going in at 4 pm was genius on Halloween night, no crowds and we were only 2 of the 8 people in the place. Deal for Halloween was $ 2 off of a small or $ 4 on a large. We ordered a small, with mushrooms, sausage & double sauce. Plus a small antipasto salad . Our server Anne was fantastic, refills, clearing plates, bill everything. Our food: The small antipasto was truly enough for 3 – 5 people we ate what we could and still took plenty home, the dressing had a very nice bite to it, plus they were more than generous with the cheeses & meats. The pizza, maybe I’m living off of nostalgia as it was not as good as I remembered from either Davison &6 mile, 16& Vandyke or 12& mound back in the day. Yes the topping were plentiful, but someone had a very heavy hand with the oregano and it the pizza itself was cooked properly but was very doughie I will certainly go back & hope it was just an off night, and I must try the french onion soup, based on multiplie positive reviewes.

Food was fair as it lacked seasoning. Portions were ok. However the service sucked… didn’t see my server during or even after my meal. I asked her for a box and bill, 20 minutes later grabbed the manager and he got both. Asked who my server was and barely apologized Don’t waste your money or Time.

Went their on a Sunday around 11:40. Open sign was on and door was open. Lady came over with a very confusing face like what are we doing there, then told us they were closed and opened at 12. Very confusing due to the open sign and open door. Will not be going back ever after the rudeness. Also does not even have hours listed on their website or on the location we went to in Macomb. Very disappointed.

My meal was excellent. A cajun chicken pasta with a ranch salad on the side was nothing short of tantalizing. The flavors emitted from their cajun pasta sauce is that of euphoria. It’s best to ask for extra cajun just to add that extra touch of pizzaz. Also their bartending staff is extroardinary. An expertly crafted Bloody Mary from Melissa will always do the trick for a hangover. Cheers!

I was looking through all the pizza flyers that came to the house and I saw the Shield’s among them, but passed over it because I have always known Shield’s as a place you go to, not one that comes to you, so when out of the corner of my eye, I saw that they delivered, I was over the Moon! So an hour later they actually brought me an amazing Detroit style, deep dish, one of a kind masterpiece that I had all to myself! Shield’s, I’d have given you the 5 stars anyway, but I would give you 6 if possible for delivery!

Went here last week with the whole family my parents ordered a full slab of ribs and said it was by far the worst ribs they’ve ever had. I ordered their chicken Parmesan and was also disappointed. I’ll stick to my homemade chicken parm. The rest of the family ordered pizza and it looked fantastic though.

Shields is good stuff. This location is kind of precariously placed in a strip mall, and there’s not much around on the opposite side of the street. You’d have to really seek it or to go here. That being daïs, the food is good. For pizza, Shields is Detroit style pizza that’s better. I’m not a sq pizza fan or fan of the D style, however something about the cheese or dough here makes it good. I can’t quite put my finger on what but if I was to have a craving for that, I’d go here. The French onion soup here is super flavorful, and good. I also like the sandwiches and wraps. They are surprisingly tasty for a place that primarily people think of for pizza. You have a few side options with sandwiches too which is nice. This location is really large with a full bar, but seem empty in the bq area and dining area. Again I say that is probably due to the business location. Can make for a good conversation place but if you’re looking for a sports bar atmosphere you won’t really get that here. Overall quality food, reasonable prices, nice place with friendly attentive staff.

Had the dubious honor to get pickup at Shields, ordered a antipasto salad, breadsticks, and two pizza a pepperoni and meat lovers type. Was pricey to say the least, well the salad was very good to start and then it went rapidly south from there. The pizza was well in one word the most disappointing I have ever had, the meat lover had a extremely sweet taste to it, like some one had poured a lot of sugar in the tomato sauce and forgot to stir. My wife and eaten there before and raved about it. If we could give no stars we would, and no I will never eat there again, in fact if I walk into a family get together and see that pizza I will run the other way.

Went here a few times with the wife, good place. Definitely recommend the Meat lover’s pizza, and for appetizers the Nachos and the French Onion soup. We tried the Supreme style pizza and the breadsticks the 2nd visit, it was good but we enjoyed the Meat lover’s pizza more. breadsticks weren’t worth writing home about. Overall, the Meat lovers pizza is highly recommended

The only reason I am giving 2 stars is because my husband loved his pizza… I on the other hand am very upset. I have Celiac Disease, and so when I saw that Shield’s had a gluten free pizza I was super excited. All in all, the pizza tasted great… but about 10 minutes later I was incredible sick. The gluten free pizza was NOT gluten free or it was contaminated with gluten from somewhere else in the kitchen. If you have Celiac Disease, this restaurant is not safe!!!

Carry out order: Pleasant and polite phone conversation. Wait time: Slightly more than expected. Food Item: Gluten free pizza. Soggy, stuck to the pan, not cut into slices, and pathetic quality at best. Advice: If gluten free, order some where else. You will only have buyers remorse. Even frozen pizzas do better than the quality of gluten free pizza at Shield’s.

I have been a customer at the Macomb Township location for over 10 years. My family & I would go there for dinner at least twice a month. My last experience was horrible and so disappointing. We had a salad that had a horrible after taste. I asked the waitiress if it was a salad from a bag. She came back and said it was and we then asked to talk to the manager, Larry. Larry came to our table and informed us they have been using salad from a bag for over a year and how can we JUSTNOW be noticing it. I couldn’t believe the attitude we received from him. I do not make myself a salad from a bag for myself let alone go to a restaurant and PAY for a salad that came out of a bag. The attitude from Larry was appalling! Unfortunately Shields of Macomb Township, you have lost a long standing customer as we will NOT be back and it’s not because of the salad in a bag… it’s because the Larry’s attitude. Maybe he should treat his customers(long time or not) with a little more respect especially considering the fact we were there on a Saturday between 5 and 6pm and there were only a handful of patrons. Horrible. Will NEVER go back. Will go to a restaurant that appreciates our business!

Lately I’ve gone there for a company meeting and it’s in the back room. While it’s nice to have a private area it seems like they can’t get it right. We’re always the ones moving the chairs, asking them to turn off the music so we can hear each other, and last time the DVD player didn’t work and we couldn’t complete our full meeting. The service is great! How they keep track of 25 orders is beyond me, but they do, said no tip and didn’t charge those who just had drinks. This last visit I ordered the French onion soup with the Greek salad. Both were very good and the soup was served hot. One thing though is the prices– those were $ 11 and that’s without chicken on the salad. All sandwiches were $ 8 – 9 with fries, onion rings, soup or salad an additional $ 1 – 3. Good food, variety of choices but a bit more than I would like to pay for a lunch.

Very slow & unprofessional service. Tried this place three times, each time the pizza was undercooked so the cheese was gross. They also didn’t have the best sanitary conditions.

«We’re going to Shield’s.» Sure, why not. I hadn’t been here for at least 4 years, so I figured I’d be okay with going. I remembered it being better than Cloverleaf(which is where they also suggested going), at least. I got an antipasto salad with a small square pizza with bacon and jalapenos. I’m telling you, it’s normally an outstanding combination… I almost always order my pizza with those toppings if they’re available. Alright, the salad. The personal salad was six bucks, which seemed kind of high, but then I got it… it’s really a pretty big salad. There was a hefty amount of ham and salami and cheese on it, and I couldn’t quite finish it all. The salad also comes with bread sticks, which are ridiculously pillowy… like«I could see myself sleeping on these» pillowy. They have a slight garlic/parmesan/butter/herb flavor to them, but it’s not overdone… tasty enough to me that I had three of them. Whoops. Before too long, the pizza came(See: Picture below). It ultimately cost $ 10, I think, because I only had two toppings. The table seemed to think the pizza was good, but — wait for it – not better than Cloverleaf. HA! I don’t *love* Shield’s pizza, but it’s better than Cloverleaf by quite a margin… at least the crust at Shield’s isn’t a soggy mess. My main reason for not giving five stars is pretty simple. First, they don’t put nearly enough sauce on their pizza. Sure, I could order extra, but I shouldn’t have to. Second, the bacon was just… weird. Almost like a shredded bacon jerky. It still had a nice flavor to it, but this is definitely not the best pizza I’ve had. I kind of regret going to Pequod’s in Chicago because it pretty much ruins any other square/pan pizza for me. I’ll break Shield’s pizza down for you: Crust: 4⁄5 Above average. Nice buttery flavor. Nice crunch, but not«Holy shit that was a sharp edge, I’m bleeding!» worthy. Not greasy, which gets big points from me. Sauce: 3.5÷5 Average-ish. Very clearly fresh made, but pretty forgettable. Actually, I MAY agree with the assessment that Cloverleaf has better sauce. Like I already said too, they don’t put enough on. Cheese: 4.5÷5 Some sort of fresh, fancy mozzarella(?) they use on this pizza. Comparable with cheese I’ve had on some of my favorite pizzas. The best part. Toppings: 3⁄5 Kind of bummed that I got jalapeño and bacon, for once. The jalapeño was fine… pickled jalapenos with nice briny goodness. That weird bacon jerky thing they have going on doesn’t do it for me though… what the hell gives? Just gimme bits of thick cut bacon. My review is more of a 3.5 or… 3.75 rating. Oh well. Four’s close enough. This is still a fine, well maintained pizza place with fair prices, and average beer prices — though they do have a lot of different specials. As far as craft beer, don’t come here for this. The craftiest beer they have here is what most places have: Sam Adams, Leinenkugel, and Blue Moon.

Offspring of the original Shields Restaurant on Davison in Detroit. Nice place, large enough to have a separate dining room for banquets and private events. We arrived without advance reservations and were placed on the waiting list, along with 3 or 4 other parties. I was told the wait would be probably less than 5 minutes. Had I brought a stop watch, I’m sure it would have proved the hostess correct. Gluten free pizza is available and on the menu. Trina was our server tonight, a most pleasant staff member. She really rounded out the dining experience to make it a pleasurable one. A Michigan Salad was ordered for my dining party of two. It was honestly enough to have as a regular meal. And so very good! What was I thinking when I ordered a large Meat Lover’s pizza to follow the salad? Half of the pizza was eaten, half was placed in a to-go box. The deep dish pizza was every bit as good as the pizzas I remember from the Detroit days when Shield’s and Buddy’s were just a stone’s throw apart from each other(not that they were throwing stones AT each other, mind you). Excellent, delicious deep dish pizza, hands down. They also feature Sanders products(chocolate and fudge toppings), as well as Stroh’s Ice Cream and Sanders Bumpy Cake. Coke products are the featured soft drinks. No military discount, but they have a Seniors discount(65 and over).

Too lazy to cook at home, so my wife and I came here on a quiet Wednesday night. We are new to the area so slowly trying to discover the hidden gems in the Shelby/Macomb area. The order of 8 wings was delicious, meaty wings in buffalo sauce. They were large wings and dipped in blue cheese, I could not have asked for better. The small meat lover’s pizza was 4 heavenly slices of some of the best Detroit pizza I’ve had to date. I mean it was baked to perfection. Not too greasy. The toppings were flavorful and did not overpower the pizza with salt. The crust was fluffly on the inside, crispy with sharp corners on the outside. Excellent pizza, very good wings, and good customer service. I highly recommend this Shield’s. Who would have thought you could get some of the best Detroit pizza this far north from the city? Yum.
