Urban Center

Be fair, this place is cheap and nicer for the room. I lived in One bedroom with my husband. Only costs us 974 a month which include water and utility fee. The first day I moved in is my wedding day, I was stuck outside of the APT because of the elevator was out of power!!! And this situation happened three times in the first two month. We do not have the key to open the stair way door, so we need calling people who in the apt, and came down to open the door for us. Parking spot needs to pay extra $ 60 for the first car and $ 125 for the second one. IT IS JUST A JOKE! SO EXPERIENCE FOR PARKING HERE. The staff said we can park in the Park and Ride while we sign the lease, then WE receive a notice that our car will be towed and got ticket if we park there any more. The Free Parking spot are full very soon in the daytime. After I got my new car, I signed the paying parking spot, but they signed me a parking spot which was already signed to another tenant. RIDICULOUS! They called me day after and fixed the problem. The fourth day, I found another car park at my spot. Because of the mistake earlier, I assume they may signed the parking spot wrong again. Then I parked another place, then My car was towed!!! I called them, they actually hanged up my phone twice!!! How rude they are! When I asked if this happen again, what should I do. The staff told me, «you can take a picture, and parked at commercial parking spot and tell them why I park there when their business hour.» Then I asked her, if I park in the commercial place, if my car will be towed again? she answered me,” I do not guarantee anything.” I paid parking fee, and could not park in, and the staff just told me that she could not guarantee anything?!@!!! SO RIDICULOUS!!! also FOR THE MAIL BOX. THERE is no way to tell you that you have a package in the office. The staff said, it should be UPS or USPS job, and they just do not do it. And also the staff said they are too busy and could not do anything more! After 5 months I lived here, I got another notice says, they are not responsible for any large package, you either be home wait your package or picked up form the mail office. I wonder what kind of busy job the staff have!!! I am not satisfied even a little bit. The people who work here isn’t friendly. The only reason I still live here is my lease has finished and here is cheap. There is no other reason keep here. Before you sign the lease, pls consider the parking fee, how many cars do you have, and how much you have to pay the parking spot, After all, you find another place more nicer and friendly in the same price you may pay here.

I made an appointment to view an available 1 bedroom apartment on the phone. I provided my contact information to the leasing agent on the phone. I told the agent I was interested in moving into a one bedroom ASAP. She told me that there were four units available. When I went in early to my appointment, there was no one available at first. I stood in the doorway searching for a leasing agent. I told the next available that I had a 12 o’clock appointment for viewing and signing for a 1 bedroom apartment. His reply was that there was no more apartments available. So I asked when the next one was available. He had no answer! There’s a few things wrong with the situation here. 1.) There was no leasing agent available to greet me as I entered the office. 2.) I did not receive a phone call following my interest in renting with Urban Center, informing me that there were no longer one bedroom units available. 3.) There is no online application where potential renters can pay application and holding fee. 4.) Lastly, the lack of professionalism from the staff in their due part to properly communicate with potential renters of pending or lack of available units. Not knowing when an apartment will be available next is not an answer.

This place is a joke!!! We have been without power for two days know due to the weather… the thing that really irritates me is there hallways are pitch black! The have not turned on any emergency lights at all! I have literally ran into people almost broke my neck falling down stairs and to top it off I couldn’t get into my apartment due to it being a electronic entry… it’s very frustrating consider that I inconveniently had to rearrange my schedule not even a week ago to prepare for a annual fire department inspection needless to say I hope they failed because the missed a huge safety issue that I will be talking to my lawyers about

Currently living at urban center apartments on ashway. Terminating our lease because after being forced to overpay for parking in the garage, my car was broken into again. They even stole my garage opener so they could come back. There is never any parking any where else so plan on being towed a few times. Everything else about the apartment is so so.

I wish I could give them ZERO stars. All I can say is I am glad to be out of this place! If you are thinking about living here, PLEASE run far far away from this place.

I am actually shocked i am giving Urban Center 4 stars! But to be fair. When i moved out i got my full deposit back!!! Whattt? Yes i know! These greedy penny pinchers gave it all back. Well i got charged 50 $ for a mandatory carpet cleaning (says so in the lease agreement). Also 2 months before i moved out i noticed a lot less police have been coming to the complex and no dead people. I still hate the parking and the smallll trash shoot. So if you have no friends or family, this is the place for you! Your friends/​family wont have to worry about finding visitor parking… If you ask the office they will just tell you to park at the park and ride HAHAHA. i know i know. The rent is cheap the windows are amazing, i never turned on my heater in the winter, also dont get a unit by the park and ride its extremely loud especially for a sleeping baby!

Very clean environment and friendly staff.

I have been very pleasantly surprised by this apartment complex. I’ll start off with a few cons.
Cons:
Parking is an absolute nightmare unless you pay for the parking garage, which is an extra $ 60 a month.
The junior 1 bedrooms don’t come with a deck and it’s a pain as a smoker.
The elevator always has an issue, wether it’s broken or has spilled food or puke in it. But there are stairs which isn’t too bad of a hike.
Pros:
The staff has been fantastic to work with and very helpful. They know me by name and are always available. I had an issue with PUD being set up and they were understanding.
My neighbors are all very quiet and respectful.
The complex remains pretty clean. There will always be issues with trash wherever you go but it’s always taken care of quickly. They even have a cleaning person come through the buildings.
My apartment itself has a huge kitchen and bathroom with tons of storage. The carpet is cheap but that’s pretty much expected at any apartment that isn’t high end.
All in all I’ve been very pleased. I’ve lived in some shitty areas before and this has been great so far.

I must be another of of the lucky residents, because– aside from the inconvenience of the elevator breaking down more often than any I’ve ever known and two false alarm fire alarms going off at inconvenient times– we haven’t have any issues in the eight months we’ve lived at Urban Center.
The office staff is great. Rachel is my favorite– she’s been very helpful and patient with us since before our move-​in.
We’re at the end of the top floor, so it’s nice and quiet up here. We never hear our neighbors, unless they’re being particularly loud when they’re walking past our front door. We do smell smoke from the neighbors once in a while when on our balcony, but that’s apartment living.
Our apartment is very nice and bright with many windows and a lovely view. We love it. We also have a parking space inside a secure garage and a storage unit on our floor inside the building for a very reasonable price. The location is ideal because my husband takes the bus multiple times a week.
We’ve had someone park behind our space once– blocking us in one morning. That’s not management’s fault, and they responded well when I called to tell them about it. They can only do so much, and only if residents are informing them of issues.
I understand that this is a new community and they’re working out the kinks. Things have changed and improved in just the eight months we’ve been here. I appreciate that they’re trying very hard to keep us all safe and happy and the community running smoothly.

Let me start out by clearly stating that I cannot wait until my lease is up and I can get the heck out of this place. I am overcharged, scared of being alone on the premises, and extremely unhappy with the way the office staff treats me.
The office staff clearly don’t know the lease terms or rules, as I was told wrong information on the phone about my rent, and ended up having to pay extra money for their mistake.
There have been so many criminal incidents in this complex that even though I pay the outrageous amount of money they ask for garage parking spaces, I don’t feel safe in the garage, and run from my car to the elevator lobby door.
On the subject of parking, the rates are ridiculous, but you are forced in to paying them. We pay almost $ 200 a month for our two spots. If you choose not to buy parking spots, there are no other options besides the extremely small on site open parking, which fills up daily at around 3:30pm. We were advised by the office staff to park in the park and ride when we first moved in, only to get a ticket and a warning that if we were found there again, we would be towed and have to pay $ 30.00 for everyday we were found in the park and ride.
If you move here, be prepared to be frightened of your neighbors, or being outside in the complex, and for rude and unhelpful office staff. This place is labeled as affordable housing, but after the parking fees, we are heavily struggling to afford to live here. The office staff are unwilling to accept that they may have been wrong, and that their wrong statements are forcing their residents to choose between eating or paying a late fee.
Do yourself a favor; search a little more, and find a safer apartment complex with staff who will value their good residents, instead of humiliating and overcharging them.

So I’ve lived here for a few months and my experience hasn’t been all bad but not all good either… but looking at these posts and speaking with some of my neighbors there is a lot I don’t know about this place. Speaking from my personal experience the elevator in my building breaks down at least every other week with a sign that always reads sorry for the inconvenience. That gets old after while. Animals defecate in the halls near the stairwell and in the actual stairwell. Also found dog urine in the elevator and on the wall on the lobby of my building. Management was slow to react to have it cleaned up. They won’t address the residents with pets either so I see this as an ongoing issue. But the office staff are very disorganized and not very knowledgeable. Once I had an issue with other people parking in my assigned spot. The office staff directed me to park in another space which was occupied by someone else. Also I had a package sent to me via UPS the package arrived on a Monday and I was never sent a notice. Had to call to find out where my package was. As far as my actual apartment goes it is okay. You can hear my neighbor stomping around up stairs as well as the music and surrond sound tv from time to time. Also the complex management calls themselves having residents’ events however these events are always conducted during hours which normal people work (2−5pm).

Whatever call center the 800 number on all their ads leads to gives inaccurate information. The representative on the phone took mine and my husband’s income information and told us we qualify for the income restriction for a household of three. We made an appointment, drove all the way down there and the leasing agent acted like she was unaware we had even made an appointment and then told us we didn’t qualify. We both make hourly and have a toddler in daycare.
The problem was not the income restriction. The problem was the misinformation on the phone call which we have recorded. Waste of time and gas.

After reading the first review on Urban Center, I’ve got to say that I completely disagree. Yes, Urban Center has started charging for parking — though, last I checked it was only an extra $ 50/​month. For the location, rental rates and amenities, paying for parking isn’t really that big of a deal. If you want additional parking, the Park and Ride is right next door.
This is a «tax credit» property, so you do have to meet certain income restrictions to live here. That being said, the rent is typically much lower than other places in this area. For example, a one bedroom at Altia (down the street) is about $ 1200/​month, while at Urban Center they start at about $ 890/​month.
I have been living at Urban Center since April and I really like it here. I’ve lived in numerous other apartment complexes and this place is by far, the best. So far. That doesn’t mean it won’t change. But for now, the location is perfect for me in addition to the price and amenities (w/​s/​g paid, pets allowed, on site gym, elevators, trash chutes) — it really feels like you’re living in a hotel.
Let’s be honest, though. It is still apartment housing and similar to Section 8, does attract a diverse group of renters. That being said, there have been some instances of people leaving trash around, smoking in the garages, parking in other people’s spaces, etc. But you can find that kind of thing anywhere you live. My best friend lives at Altia and pays $ 1750 there (!) and she says they have the exact same issues.
Overall, Urban Center has been a great experience for me and I totally recommend living here.
UPDATE ONE: My facts aren’t wrong, as the above review mentions. Rates at Urban Center vary, as do all apartments that change their rents to meet demands. As of July 2014, they have an ad on CL for the smallest one bedroom at $ 889/​month.
Also, they are now charging NEW tennants for parking spots. But people who signed their lease back before June get to keep their one spot, free of charge.
