My son and I recently booked a one-​way truck rental (16 foot box truck) from NJ to Virginia from these folks. When we came to pick it up, it wasn’t there, but on its way. So we got to wait 1.5 hours. Since they had our phone number it is hard to understand why nobody called. Except after we met the woman at the counter it wasn’t that hard to understand. She was perhaps the singularly most unhappy, unfriendly, truly unhelpful creature I have ever met in a business environment. If you want to practice your self-​control, this is an ideal place. Otherwise, good luck!
BTW — the truck wasn’t too bad — although it did pull to the right quite a bit and the wipers were mostly just symbolic as opposed to functional.

UPDATE: My summary is this is a «you get what you pay for» kind of place and that’s fine by me. I got a really great rate for my rental but the trade off was that my car wasn’t ready and the car I got was still not cleaned. I agreed to take it regardless and they gave me a discount on my rental. While the service wasn’t overly friendly, it was cordial.

I might be adjusting my review but for now kind of horrified by the many negative reviews. I rented a car from here and then called in about my reservation because I thought I had until 6 pm to pick up my car and was advised they close at 5:30. I said, «But it says online that you close at 6 pm?» I was put on hold and even the hold jangle said they closed at 6 pm. The woman advised me that they had to go get cars at 5:30 pm and no one would be there to help me –and then that they shut their computer down at 5:45 pm.
While I don’t think it’s kind to swoop in at 6 pm and demand a car, I also don’t think you should post you close at 6 pm if your services end at 5:30 pm. My recommendation is that the company change that information online and on their hold music so that employees get to leave when they are supposed to. If your employee’s shift ends at 6 pm, the business should close at 5:30 pm. It’s also hard on your customers to plan their day when posted times are not accurate.
I found the employees testy and reacted to it but noticed when I calmed down, they did too. So I wonder if they are used to being treated poorly and are on the defensive-​I don’t know. It’s hard for me to believe that people are just rude for the heck of it.
Anyway, we’ll find out tomorrow when I go pick up my car. I’ll update this review with how it goes.

I would give zero star. The employees here are extremely rude. They will give you worst car in your booked type. No choice.
Most importantly, check the car hundred times before moving it out. They will try their best to use your insurance for the damage you didn’t notice.
Avoid the company!!!

I needed a car rental while we were staying with family. Debbie, the car rental clerk, was remarkably rude. On the day I rented, she interrupted the check-​in to chat with someone who barged in through the back door, about potentially renting a truck in the near future. She then got huffy when politely asked to return to the people actually paying then and there. When I returned the rental at the required time, she said they were closed and would inspect the car later, which I objected to. She also refused to give me a 3.5 mile drive back to where I was staying, saying they didn’t have the «manpower» — even though there was at least one other employee sitting around. If they were indeed closed, giving me a ride should not have been a problem, since there would be no customers serviced. She is a piece of work, and is doing no favors for the Budget Rental brand.

The women at this place are nasty and rude and unprofessional. As we were waiting for the truck we rented all we heard was them cursing and talking bad about customers. I know everyone does this but you don’t do it in front of people. They also didn’t tell us about the fact you need to fill the truck with gas or you will be charged up the ass we had to ask.
I don’t want to leave it a bad review because the truck helped me move it’s the people here who need an attitude adjustment.

I needed 2 large 24 foot one-​way Budget trucks on the last day of the month and I had not reserved anywhere (not the smartest at month end). I called around the area and got the usual NY/​NJ no care for customer service. Other places said «I don’t have a truck but I’ll look around and get back to you.» None did. The folks at Book Auto WERE ON IT. Within minutes they had 1 truck confirmed and the other one about an hour later. Friendly helpful folks that were easy to communicate with. We picked up both trucks a few hours later and the cross country trip went great… only complaint was the big trucks only get 8−10MPG but that is not Book Auto’s fault.
