For the last 25 years Angela Thomas has taken the hair industry by storm! It all started at a young age when Angela began to cut and style her Barbies, friends, and family. Hair was never a career choice for Angela, she belonged in this industry. Angela began taking cosmetology classes in High School to perfect her craft. At the age of 18 Angela received her Cosmetology license in St. Louis, MO, her home town. She began immediately working in salons and her passion just grew from there. This led her to win many different Hair awards and certifications. In her 20’s Angela gave birth to her 3 pride and joys, Anthony, Dylan, and Joshua. This didn’t stop her from following her passion. They just gave her inspiration every day to do better and raise an amazing family. In 2002, Angela and her incredible husband Jim packed up the boys and moved down to Tampa, FL. I’m a bit biased as I’ve been getting my hair «did» by Alex since he started in school. He’s always been extremely passionate about his profession, and that has made him the excellent stylist and colorist he is today. I wouldn’t trust my hair to anyone else. I’ve never had a bad cut, color, or blowout while working with him!

After admiring a friend’s hair for weeks, I finally asked who she was trusting to keep her locks lovely. Turns out Alex at D Retro Salon & Spa is super talented when it comes to coloring and styling hair.
My first visit was without flaw. He gave me a thorough consultation that helped him hone in on the right color (s) to add warmth and light to my naturally brown hair without being too bright. Foils are a pain and require a painstaking process but he did the deed efficiently while we chatted.
The second he finished shampooing me and I caught a glimpse of my still-​wet hair I sighed a big sigh of relief and flashed a big grin. It was already evident that the color was perfect.
The price was also a pleasant surprise (considering color and cut took more than two hours) but it is the results that will ensure I happily return.

I like this place enough to give it four stars. The staff are super friendly, and the place in general has a great vibe to it. My only gripe is that I went in for a mani-​pedi, which did not last. The very next morning I woke up to chipped fingernails, and toenails. And, it got worse. By the end of the second day, my fingers and toes looked like they had been done over a week ago.
