Chason Service Engineers

I used Chason several years ago to install a new heat pump in my home.
I had them out recently to correct an issue with the duct work in my unheated shop in the basement. Bob did a great job explaining the job and how it was priced. The crew showed up on time, did the work and then explained everyting that they had done to my wife before they left. When they left there was no trace that they had been there at all. A very neat, professinal job.

My A/​C stopped blowing cold air so I called another local company to take a look. I was quoted a new A/​C unit in the $ 6,000 range. I decided to get a second opinion since the cost was significant and repair not offered. Chason sent out a tech who identified low freon pressure and suggested that we refill the freon and see how long it held — rather than buy a new unit. This was less cost and would help identify if a new unit was actually required. About 2 months later my A/​C stopped blowing cold air again. I assumed that the freon leak was significant and a new unit may be required so I called Chason back up to get a quote on a new unit. The tech came out and evaluated the system and found that the freon pressure was not the issue. He replaced the capacitor and fixed the problem at a fraction of the cost of a new unit.
I am giving this company 5 stars because I was expecting to need a new unit — if they had told me the leak was the problem and a new unit was required I wouldn’t have thought twice. These guys are honest — a rare quality in HVAC repair these days.

We went with this company because of some positive information I found about them after scrubbing the internet. The service visit was $ 120, high but I thought it would be compensated for by honorable service. Because I had to work, my wife was there to receive them. The technician did a good job of identifying the problem in less than 20 minutes and ended up replacing the run capacitor. He completed the repair without first consulting my wife about what the problem was.
The price was $ 267. He charged us $ 147 dollars to install a new capacitor, which typically runs less than $ 30 and takes 10 minutes to switch.
Good service, way overpriced. When you hire a HVAC company for AC problems in the future, ask them two things:
1) How much to install a capacitor?
2) How much they charge per/​lb of refrigerant?
