I love this store. They carry all the brands I like and they have very friendly staff compared to other Indian groceries in the area.

(I’ve been in here at least 5 times previous, but this time…) Walked in alone. 5 sets of eyes following me down the first tiny aisle, wondering what this blond is doing. I picked up some frozen green mango, yeah thats right little girl, your daddy doesn’t even know what todo with this! After the stares from the little girl and her father, I made my way to the spices where I stocked up on some things I needed plus a spicy snack. Upon check out, the cashier(such a cutie) gave me a look and was like«Ok, I need to ask you… do you really like this snack? Its even too hot for Indians» I was like«dude, I am buying it for a reason, because I like it!’ Then I pulled out my green mango and said«do you know what this is for? No? Its for the mango chutney I am going to make. Oh and the arrow root I use as a thickener instead of cornstarch, much healthier» and i proceeded to tell him how I was going to use all the ingredients as I watched hi mouth drop. «I am so surprised! In a good way! What else do you like??» — mind you, I said this person was adorable and this just made it even more fun. We talked for a while and I found out that he will be working there for the summer, I promosed to bring a chutney if I ever get around to making it. I love the friendliness!

The best-kept secret of the otherwise-hellish Drum Hill. That’s because this grocer is pretty much in the BACK of a tiny strip mall, so you can’t really see it from the road. People who know about it, though, go here religiously. I hope I’m not blowing its cover by reviewing it on Unilocal, but it’s an awesome place so I want to give it much-deserved props. Palika Bazaar is an Indian grocer. Spices, teas, cosmetics, food product(giant bags o’ lentil!) — it’s here. And the selection is vast, too. They also have a very healthy selection of prepared Indian food if you’re not feeling adventurous enough to cook it yourself. Every time I’ve been in here they had freshly-cooked huge samosas for something like a buck each, right on the main counter. Definitely get one, they’re delicious! Also, you’ll notice behind the counter that there’s a huge selection of Bollywood films to buy and rent. I’m not much into Bollywood but my friends that are tell me this place has a fabulous selection that they update frequently.
