Lowell General Hospital

The wait time at the ER is staggering. You’re much better off going to an Urgent Care facility unless your in a very serious condition. Avoid if at all possible.

Horrible! Go to any other hospital or urgent care center if at all possible. If you get an ambulance, beg them to take you to any other medical center! I’ve been to the ER twice and to the radiology department once. Wait times are beyond ridiculous. Last night my son hurt his ankle and we feared it was broken. We took him to the ER, and he was in a lot of pain. They almost immediately took him to get an X-​Ray (which was great), then returned him to the waiting room. We had to sit there for six hours! Over that time, they took an hour and a half between each person they took back. But, we saw several patients leave. They said only two ambulances came over that time. One of the women that came by ambulance, who was doubled over in pain and saying it was hard to breath, was wheeled into the waiting room and left there! When she couldn’t sit up to have her vitals read by the triage nurse, the triage nurse skipped her! It’s the craziest most frustrating thing I’ve ever seen. We finally had to leave before they saw my son because it was nearly morning and he had school. Today we’re going to urgent care. Please, if you have a choice, go anywhere else. Shoot, I’d see a vet before I tried that ER again. I realize many people won’t have a choice and are forced to go to Lowell General, but if you have a choice, go elsewhere! The nurses at the reception area are beyond rude, and when you see into the ER area, you’ll see many staff hanging out at the center desk, laughing and joking as though no one was suffering waiting to see them. Watching my son sit in pain for six hours, and through the doors watching doctors, nurses, and techs laughing and sitting around almost the entire, is enough to inspire disgust and rage.

Came in with our 5 month old– staff are courteous kind and caring. We were seen quickly and admitted. The nurses on the pediatric unit are absolutely stellar. One of them just brought me a peanut butter and jelly sandwich which means she’s now my friend for life.
The nurses are amazing with our baby and I have complete confidence in them. They don’t even give me a mean look when I burst into tears about hearing updates on how high the fever has gotten.
These ladies are great. I will be writing a thank you letter to the hospital for how well we have been cared for

Not going to go into detail why I was sent here, but the staff was rude. I was in the emergency room and needed to use the bathroom. The secretary escorted me to the bathroom and waited for me outside. I’ll be completely honest and say I needed to take a shit. However, rude ass bitchy secretary keeps opening the door while I was trying to squeeze out poop. Bitch, I needed privacy. She kept opening the door three times, and every time, she kept saying that someone else needed to use the bathroom. I needed to use it too — god, people lack common sense. If a staff is reading this, please do not be this person. I’m not sure why she didn’t direct the person who needed to use the bathroom to a different one. Dumb employee, Please, let’s never meet again.

I was ambulanced in with a broken clavicle from a really bad car accident. They kept bumping my bed into walls, joking with their coworkers etc. It hurt a lot physically, and it wasn’t exactly what I wanted to hear when I had just had a traumatic near death experience.
They sent me into the bathroom alone to collect a urine sample, with a freshly broken collar bone, I couldn’t do much and when I went outside to ask for help no one was to be found for several minutes. No one gave me pain killers for a couple hours.
They gave me a slip of paper referring me to someone else and sent me home without even telling me how my broken bone would heal or how long. Just go to Burlington for your medical needs — the drive is worth it.
But to the few kind nurses I did meet at Lowell, thank you.

I wish I can give this place no stars at all! I’ve been waiting for 12 hours and no one still has not given me a blanket or socks. They need to hire more nurses and most of the nurse that work here is so rude. I was laying there like a shriveled up periwinkle out of its shell, but thank god Dr Jenny came to the rescue and made everything all better!!! All in all. I just wanted the nurses to be a lot more nice. if you don’t like with people? There’s always other jobs

Awful just awful. I spent 4 days in hell during my stay. I was in a car accident broke both my arm n leg. Staff ignored me i sat waiting in pain the longest 6 hours in tears before the nurse decided to give me something and the aids made me feel like i was bothering them every time i rang my buzzer. After care in PACU after my Surgery was the worst bed ridden i was left 7 hours in a wet bed n had to listen to this nurse bitch n complain about her job. The next day i was released with no pain meds and was told to call the following day or stay another night which to me wasnt an option.

I have been in the ER for 3 hours waiting to be seen! Let me just say when I arrived the waiting area was completely empty and since I’ve been here 3 other people have arrived and no one has been called. I’m sooo aggravated and after today I don’t plan on coming back here at all. You go to an emergency room because your having emergency like symptoms where you should be checked!

Came here in the ER for an allergic reaction, I’m glad I did. This place left me with a great experience, the doctors and nurses were quick and very caring. This hospital gets you in and out, by far the best hospital I’ve been to my entire life. I would recommend anyone to go there for their emergency needs, they’re so professional and quick.

No one likes a hospital. And lately I’ve been traversing a few. Place is huge, and in continuous renovation. Maze-​like confusing, friendly people. Great doctors.

LGH does do a excellent job at caring for the community! Everything you could possibly need is within 5 miles of your home without traveling to Boston where you might be treated as a number. In the ER Yes you may get a overtired nurse who comes off the wrong way (she has been on her feet for 15 hours, dealing with a unruly patient, holding her pee and hungry) Your migraine, toothache, Sprained ligamnet, chronic back pain, and etc … doesnt come before a priority ER emergency (Cardiac arrest, infant, MVA) or possibly Medflight out back that you dont know about, so waiting for hours sometimes happens. You usually will leave with medication (Which is what you wanted right?) and a follow up plan. Outpatient centers are handy. LGH drumhill offers many services ! Cancer Center is like a second family ! All in all LGH is your one stop for health care !

Don’t expect anything quickly and rude nurses in Reilly 4. Other hospitals educate their nurses better to supply patients with usable information. This place is run by mushrooms, kept in the dark and fed shit.

I’d give less than 1 star if possible. This hospital is frustrating to deal with. Their Radiology and Emergency Departments both misdiagnosed me and refuse to correct my medical record. They play games of running down the 120 day clock when responding to my case… taking the maximum allowed amount of time, or by stating they never received a letter. They are arrogant in their defense and could care less about the integrity and accuracy of a patient’s medical record. BEWARE… STAY AWAY.

If it’s a cut or a bruise, go to lowell general. If it is life threatening, get on the highway and go as far from lgh as you can.

Clean and quiet. The staff are amazing.

Usually my body decides to have one huge illness/​medical event per year that requires me to go to the ER.
Last year, it was my heart. Essentially I went to the ER for one problem, next thing I knew I was being rushed into a room, an IV stuck in my arm, and vials of medication being fed into me. Come to find out that my tachycardia that I had as a kid was still very much in full swing, and a 200+ beats per minute resting heart rate is apparently something to be concerned about! There wasn’t much time to explain what was going on in detail, so naturally I was freaked out. I wish I could remember her name, but the nurse I had was AMAZING. She was so comforting while I was getting my IV (I hate needles, and she held my hand!), the girl putting in my IV did it so seamlessly that I couldn’t even feel it, the nurse came to check on me frequently, and kept me calm until my family was able to get to the hospital. I really need to get on contacting Lowell General so she can get the kudos she deserves.
This past June, it was my lymph nodes swelling up to the size of golf balls, my throat swollen shut by it, and my whole neck being in excruciating pain. Unfortunately my first nurse made my experience a bit anxiety ridden, with how she treated me. I won’t go into full details, but essentially the woman could have been a lot kinder and understanding, and not hook/​unhook my IV line with such force that the needle under my skin is moving and putting me into more pain. The doctor, and second nurse, however, were AWESOME. Especially the second nurse. She was very attentive, helped me get some food when my throat wasn’t swollen shut anymore, and struck up a conversation with me since we both attended the same university. It helped me take my mind off of everything that was going on. Ultimately they were not able to figure out what was wrong with me, but the medicine that the doctor prescribed to me had me cured within a couple days.
I know that they can get a bad rap, but the good has outweighed the bad, and I think I can consider myself lucky for the staff that I’ve been seen by.

The emergency room is a joke. I’ve never had a good experience there so I’ve switched hospitals. I could go on and on with horror stories from the er and stays for surgery. Also the maternity ward is poo. The only reason this place gets three stars is because of the cancer center which is amazing. They are always friendly and helpful. They do their job. Really great staff there but I would stay away from all other parts of the hospital especially surgeries, though I had a very pleasant experience at the PT department today. I really really do appreciate the cancer center and oncology there though I can’t stress that enough. I would give them on their own 5 stars.

I had my blood drawn here. They sit you down in a room with two other patients (also getting their blood drawn). You all FACE EACH OTHER. No curtain or anything. Then everyone gets their blood drawn at the same time. I guess they have a strong patient privacy policy…

I had my first child at Lowell General back in April. I have to agree with Yasn M. The nurses are spectacular and very accommodating. However I do agree that the Birthplace is busy but I I never heard anything nor really saw any of the other mothers. I did find that the doctors were very rushed and sometime the nurses seemed a bit understaffed but they were always courteous and smiling. The room service was poor. The food was passable but nothing stellar that’s when and if I got it. Often times my food was cold if it had ever been warm to begin with and sometimes I didn’t get it at all though they still charged me for it. All in all not a horrible place but not the best either.

Peter Rollins had a great surgical experience here. Everyone was exteremely profesional and knowledgable. Rollins used to drive in to Boston for his health care but won’t do that anymore. I found LGH extremely capable of handling my condition and it’s much closer, so there’s less traffic to deal with. There’ also plenty of free parking and it’s location makes follow-​up visits a breeze, which is great with Rollins’ busy schedule.
